Cherreads

Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

In the dead of night, a teenager sat on a tree branch overlooking the entire Hamelin. Very few spots had candles lit, the biggest is the mayor's house, while the other was the Guard Station. Otherwise, besides a few quick flickers of a candle being lit and put out. Very few of the villagers dared to light them due to the expensive nature of candles.

"It's time to begin."

Felix dressed in dark clothes, leaped from the tree and began to glide with the wing magic. From running across roof tops and jumping across the streets. He first headed towards the Guard Station.

Hopping to the top of the Guard Station, Felix then leaned down and peeked into the Captain's Office. While the office was lit by an actual lighting crystal instead of candles used everywhere else in the village. It made sense since as the Captain of this town security, he could use the budget to upgrade and not live like the rest.

'Empty, great time to snoop.' Felix thought.

Like an expert thief, Felix checked the window before opening it up. He was sure there wasn't an alarm nor trap set on the window. So slipping into the office, Felix first began with the desk where a few files were on it.

Rapidly looking over them, Felix frowned as he found background and investigation reports on ten families. They were not part of the thirty missing, but seeing ten placed on the desk like this. It might be the next batch that will go missing.

Searching around the desk some more and checking for hidden compartments. Felix didn't find anything besides more files and a blackbook about the mayor's misdeeds. Clearly this Captain knew he was doing something wrong and began collecting darker material on the mayor.

Flipping open the book, it listed some of backroom deals and bribes of the mayor. Most were about raising the taxes for any excuse. The one that made his eyebrow twitch is because the mayor's daughter wanted a flying pony. So the taxes were increased drastically causing many to become homeless in autumn.

Then he saw a note towards the back. It didn't contain much besides the mayor meeting with a black robe man. Following this, it noted that the Mayor asked for information on ten children. The Guard Captain put a note that this might be related but lacks evidence to confirm.

'The next few pages seemed to be erased. So did the Captain get brought in on the deal?' Felix thought as he used a bit of magic.

This magic wasn't anything special, but it coated the page in black while white covered the indents allowing him to read what was erased. From there, Felix felt his anger soar as he clenched his hand.

Resisting the urge to smash the office, Felix let out a calming breath before continuing his search. He needed to find a hidden location quickly if he wanted to save the missing children. At least find their corpse if he could.

The missing children he is supposed to investigate have been sacrificed by the mayor to extend his lifespan or attempt to achieve immortality.

While looking for a spot where the ritual was to take place, outside the window, Felix saw a pillar of light that was blood red rising into the sky. It lit up the night sky as a malicious pressure rolled across the town followed by a ground shaking roar.

"This is bad." Felix said to himself.

Jumping through the window, Felix began rushing towards the red light. Whatever has appeared could not be a good thing and needed to be dealt with. He just hopes whatever came hasn't fully emerged or not to mention this town but the surrounding towns will be in trouble.

--

The large blood red pillar began to disperse, but Felix already locked on to the location. Not to mention the pillar, but the magical pressure full of malice is a give away. So running behind the Mayor mansion, Felix raced through the trees where he came upon an opening.

There in the center of the opening, he saw a large magic circle drawn in children's blood. The missing children were tied to posts, their stomachs cut open and guts placed in bowls before them. The sight was truly gruesome as the children were all below ten years old.

Not far from the circle, he saw a large pit where the missing families were tossed in. The amount of senseless deaths made Felix speechless. All while his anger turned into fury as his nails dug into his palms.

However, as he tried to hold back his madness in order to not go berserk. He saw a towering demon that looked like a massive round ball covered in gray fur. Attached to the sides were various tentacles waving around madly as it scooped up the corpse laying around. Then the giant round ball moved and row after row of sharp teeth at least an adult forearm in length appeared.

Chomp!

As its massive mouth closed, a child's body was torn apart between its teeth. The demonic entity chewed a few times before opening its bloody mouth once more and tossed in another corpse.

"I have sacrificed ten children as asked. Please grant me my wish of longevity." A middle aged man shouted.

The man was fairly tall and thin with spots of gray appearing in his hair. This man dressed in clothes that screamed money and looked more like it belonged at a noble ball or gathering. Next to this man, a robust man in guard uniform stood quietly.

Clearly these two must be this town Mayor and Guard Captain.

Then, the demonic entity turned to these two fools who summoned him. Then without hesitation it picked both of them up and tossed them into its mouth.

"No!"

"Ahhh!"

The sound of their dying screams were drowned out as their bones were being grinded by this creature's large teeth.

"Fool, you can live forever in my stomach." The creature chuckled darkly.

"Earth Magic: Mountain Clap!"

Suddenly on both sides of the large creature two giant rock formations rose up and violently smashed into it. Under the immense force, the two rocks collided together.

The user of the magic, naturally it is Felix using Earth Magic he learned from Jura. His eyes glowing red as blue penguins glowed brightly. Anger radiated as his magic surged, cracking the ground as he continued to wield magic.

"I praise you young one for your strength, but this is little more than a tickle." The creature laughed as it pushed the rocks away.

Then quicker than one could blink, it lashed out with one of its tentacles striking Felix hard.

"Ugh!"

Blood flew out of his mouth as Felix skipped across the ground. His body ached as he once more coughed out blood. His breathing in chaos as each breath seemed harder than the last.

One attack nearly sent him to the world beyond. To make it worse, Felix knew it was just a casual attack from this demonic creature.

However, what made him despair more is the one moment he was stuck. That one moment had allowed his fury he held back to break free. So as if a string breaking, the madness, torment and his emotions that he tried so hard to suppress surged forth without end.

"Hahaha." Felix laughed as he raised one of his hands to his eyes.

"What are you laughing about?" The demonic creature asked a bit wary.

From the boy, it suddenly felt a massive influx of magic that even made it feel a bit unnerved.
