The palace gardens were stupidly beautiful.
Flowers I didn't know the names of, little bridges over sparkling streams, butterflies the size of my hand. It felt like walking inside a painting. Jaxon kept two steps behind me the whole time, hands clasped behind his back like a bodyguard who was scared to breathe too loud.
I finally stopped under a huge willow tree by a pond. The leaves hung down like green curtains, hiding us from the rest of the world.
"You can relax, you know," I said, sitting on the grass. "I'm not gonna bite."
Jaxon's ears turned pink. "S-sorry. I've just… never been alone with an omega before. Especially not…" He waved his hands vaguely at me. "You."
I patted the spot next to me. "Sit."
He sat. Fast. Like a puppy obeying a command.
