Chapter 97 - Chapter 97: Bella VS Pyramid Head

By the light of the glowing orb and the reflection off the blade, 006 saw the approaching enemy clearly.

This was a burly figure, a full 2.5 meters tall. He was shirtless, carrying a blade in one hand, and wearing a filthy leather apron from the waist down. The most eye-catching part was still his head; this guy was wearing a giant triangular helmet. Forget eyes or expressions—one couldn't even see the shape of his head, or if he even had a head.

The huge triangular helmet was covered in patches of coagulated blood, and beneath that was a thick layer of rust, making the original color of the helmet long indistinguishable.

"Fire!" Bella shouted, raising her shotgun and blasting at Pyramid Head.

Without another word, 006 rolled to the side, shouldered his rifle, and opened fire with textbook tactical form.

He aimed for Pyramid Head's upper body. This guy had a helmet on top and a leather apron below, leaving only his upper body exposed. Shooting for the upper body was the safest bet.

The bullets sparked upon impact, accurately hitting the spot suspected to be Pyramid Head's heart. However, the kinetic energy of the bullets did extremely limited damage to the giant monster. There was absolutely no sign of injury; his body merely swayed twice before he swung the massive machete, which whistled as it chopped toward 006's head.

So much for firearms being effective. 006 cursed inwardly. He leaped up awkwardly, almost like doing parkour, grabbing a nearby shelf and vaulting to the other side, dodging the machete's fierce strike.

Bella also fired at the right moment, but just like with 006, the bullets didn't do much to Pyramid Head. At most, they made him stagger, but afterwards, he was perfectly fine and continued attacking as if nothing had happened.

Pyramid Head wasn't fighting alone. Following him was a swarm of beetles. These beetles were the size of fists; if one flipped them over, they would discover that their heads bore a vague resemblance to human faces.

In his rush to ambush the two, Pyramid Head had become somewhat separated from the beetle army. Now, delayed for a few seconds by their gunfire, the massive swarm of beetles had caught up.

"Boom—Boom—!" Bella took off the grenade launcher and fired several incendiary rounds at the ground.

Then she tossed the grenade launcher to 006, telling him to delay the beetles' advance while she dealt with Pyramid Head first.

Bella clasped her hands together. Her fingers emitted waves of fluorescent light as psionic power rapidly took shape. Then, pulling her left hand outward, a rapier composed entirely of ice was formed.

With sword in hand, her combat power increased by at least twenty percent.

Seeing Pyramid Head swing the giant blade horizontally again, she unhurriedly leaned back to dodge the edge. Then, seizing the moment when his move was fully extended, she closed the distance rapidly. Her left foot stepped on Pyramid Head's right knee; she leaped up, twisted her waist, and swung her leg, kicking him squarely in the solar plexus.

This kick sent Pyramid Head stumbling back two steps. Before he could swing his blade for a fierce attack, Bella's ice rapier stabbed into the gap between his helmet and neck.

This strike didn't feel like stabbing into flesh and blood; it felt more like throwing a popsicle into a hotpot. A massive amount of negative energy directly decomposed the psionic power in her rapier. Bella instantly lost her weapon, but she could feel that Pyramid Head was injured.

One sword destroyed? Then make another!

Strictly speaking, the Frost Ray move should be called Energy Ray. Psionic power could be shaped into four forms: fire, ice, lightning, and sound waves. Previously, she always used Frost Ray because she only knew how to use Frost Ray.

During this time, she had mastered another type of ray: Lightning Ray.

Shaping a Lightning Ray into a rapier was hard—very hard. Even after much bitter practice in private, she could only maintain the lightning for a few seconds before losing control!

At this moment, she didn't condense the rapier first but waited for an opportunity.

The opportunity came quickly.

006 continuously used incendiary rounds against the beetle swarm. He fought more cleverly, occasionally shooting nearby shelves and walls to create artificial obstacles and delay the speed of the beetles' encirclement.

He couldn't spare a hand to help for the moment, but Shaw could.

Bella's purification light orb allowed Shaw to see her location. At this moment, Shaw—who looked more like an agent than a female ghost—was lying on the roof of the car, holding a sniper rifle. After a simple aim, she fired a shot straight at Pyramid Head's heart.

Bullets had limited lethality, but that didn't mean they had no lethality. With a distance of less than a hundred meters, taking a sniper shot head-on at close range was unpleasant even for a monster as tough as Pyramid Head.

A large hole was blown in Pyramid Head's chest. 006 also knew this guy was a Boss. While pinning down the beetles, he also provided supporting fire from the flank.

Amid the da-da-da of gunfire, the slow, lumbering Pyramid Head looked almost pathetic.

Attacked from two sides, the monster showed a clear hesitation. Then he swung his great blade, preparing to chop at 006 not far away.

Opportunity! Bella, who had been preparing for a long time, shifted her steps and ran behind Pyramid Head.

Her hands rapidly condensed a lightning rapier. Just before the lightning went out of control, she stabbed it into the back of Pyramid Head's neck.

Lightning is all about who's wielding it. When Thor uses it, that's one tier; when Bella uses it, that's another. Strictly speaking, hers was lightning simulated by psionic power, weaker than magical lightning or divine lightning. Even so, against demons and monsters, lightning still hit the hardest among energies of the same tier!

The feel of the lightning rapier was completely different from the ice rapier. The blade felt like it had stabbed into a lump of clay. Bella forcibly thrust it deeper, put strength into her arm, and twisted it twice. Then she retreated rapidly, just as several streaks of azure lightning converged beneath Pyramid Head's skin.

Accompanied by a loud boom, all the energy detonated. A large amount of black gas spilled out from a blasted crack on the side of Pyramid Head's helmet. The giant monster didn't utter a sound; dragging his great blade, he seemed ready to continue slaughtering these intruders.

Bang! With a loud noise, Pyramid Head was hit squarely by a Javelin anti-tank missile launched by Shaw. This time the injury was extremely heavy. A scorched black hole the size of a washbasin was blasted open on his chest. An arm used for defense was blown into minced meat, and the two-meter-long machete flew out over fifty meters.

Bella didn't wait for the dust to settle. She condensed a lightning rapier again and, with a thrusting motion, stabbed into Pyramid Head's neck from the side.

Subsequently, she gathered even more psionic power to read the opponent's thoughts.

Pyramid Head wasn't a living person, but neither was he a dead soul. He was a collective of countless thoughts—violence, anger, vengeance. Among them, Bella saw the most core principle: protect the master of this world, Alessa.

"Die!" Violent psychic power poured into Pyramid Head's thought core. Like countless sharp awls, it shattered everything—hatred, malice, pain, and resentment alike. Then, it set off a massive explosion on the psychic level.

Pyramid Head was blown into fragments from the inside out. Disappearing along with him were those human-faced beetles that looked disgusting just by looking at them. However, the Otherworld persisted, and more footsteps were sounding in the distance.
