Chapter 96 - Chapter 96: The Otherworld

What was originally a terrifying supernatural scene had now been forcibly turned into a counter-terrorism scene by Bella.

To show off her knowledge, Bella occasionally gave explanations about the text on the school walls, ceiling, and doors.

She read aloud the text on the ceiling with a cadence of rising and falling intonations. The text was pitch-black like ink, with sharp strokes, as if carved there by a knife.

"'Do you not know that we will judge angels? Do you not know that believers will judge the world?' This should be a verse from 1 Corinthians in the Bible. Mr. Alec, am I right?"

Comrade 006 nodded perfunctorily. "Yeah, yeah. You really do know a lot."

Bella secretly savored the feeling. Not bad, this compliment is sincere too...

Bella soon pointed to the wall again, where text that looked like it was written in blood appeared: "'Evil shall slay the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.' This is a sentence from Psalms in the Old Testament. Why use this sentence here?..."

006 frowned tightly. His biblical knowledge had long since been returned to his teachers. Seeing Bella solemnly studying these texts, he couldn't keep up with the rhythm for a moment and subconsciously said, "Why?"

To earn his praise, Bella occasionally explained a few sentences.

Like shearing a sheep, she fleeced the guy beside her a few more times.

However, as she continuously recited those verses, the atmosphere inside the school became increasingly heavy.

Even though he knew nothing about magic, Comrade 006 could sense a slight anomaly.

"Are there some... unclean things around us? It's just too...?..." The words were on the tip of his tongue, but he didn't know how to say them.

"That's just your mind playing tricks on you. I guarantee there are currently no supernatural creatures around us."

"Then have you researched anything from these biblical verses?"

Bella combined the intelligence she knew with the clues investigated on-site and explained briefly.

"This is a religious group doing evil deeds in the name of God. They used the excuse of justice and the name of God to do the most evil, terrifying things. In the end, they completely detonated the mysterious power sleeping beneath this land, dragging themselves and the entire town into the abyss."

006 analyzed with his meager knowledge of religion: "You mean, thirty years ago, there was a group of people blaspheming in this town?"

Bella wasn't very sure. "...Perhaps they still think they are righteous. They used a so-called great goal to incite the fanatical faith of the majority, placing the will of the majority above the minority, even deciding the life and death of the minority. They believed this was God's will, pushing all the blame onto God."

This time, 006 understood instantly. "Just like how 007 sacrificed me for the mission, for the Queen of England?"

Bella shrugged. "Pretty much."

The two searched the campus. It was a mystery why 006's wife, Auntie Rose, was so good at running. Just as they finished searching the first floor and a few classrooms on the east side of the second floor, they heard a rapid and sharp air raid siren sounding from outside the school.

"What is that?" 006 looked confused.

Without a word, Bella dragged him and ran outside. The time in the Fog World was up; the Otherworld was coming!

At the same time, she used psionic power to call Shaw, telling the pickup to rendezvous with them.

The pickup was the key to whether they could escape Silent Hill. Plus, a large amount of weapons and ammunition was stockpiled inside; it absolutely couldn't be lost.

Inside Silent Hill, the pickup lost its Ghost Mode stealth ability, but the body was still extremely sturdy. It forcibly smashed through the school gate and knocked a big hole in the administration office.

Rose had run off somewhere unknown. Bella could only activate the backup plan: hold the line at the school and ride out the duration of the Otherworld.

"Buzz, buzz, buzz—" The air raid siren rang incessantly. 006, who had just relaxed, became nervous again.

Large patches of plaster on the school walls began to peel off. What was exposed beneath the plaster wasn't lime, but dark brown bloodstains covered in mold. Then, these bloodstains began to gather according to some law, dripping toward the ground under the force of gravity, leaving countless mold spots on the walls.

Large chunks of concrete fell from the walls, revealing the corroded and deformed rebar inside.

The campus remained empty, but the pitch-black sky and the rusted windmill turning without wind made the whole place feel increasingly bizarre.

Just as the two ran down from the second floor, still over a hundred meters from the pickup, darkness descended!

Comrade 006 felt as if he were instantly placed in an abnormally crowded environment. He wanted to see his surroundings clearly, but the pitch-black environment stripped him of his vision. He couldn't see his hand in front of his face; everything before his eyes was darkness.

"You have a way to deal with this, right?"

"...Of course."

The megaphone was still looping the sound of "Sharon—Rose—", but this previously slightly awkward voice had now become distorted and grating, mixed with a large amount of static. The tone was completely different from 006's voice before.

"Mr. Alec, don't be nervous. This is a normal phenomenon." Bella explained unhurriedly beside him.

This hellhole suddenly becoming so terrifying was a "normal phenomenon"?

006 tried hard to tell himself to be calm, attempting to use his scientific knowledge to explain the various anomalies appearing around him.

Ignoring his anxiety, Bella cleared her throat. "I say, let there be light!"

A sneer seemed to come from the darkness, followed by the sound of heavy footsteps in the boundless dark.

"You have to sustain an entire space, while I only need to break through one point. So, I reckon... you are not my match!!"

Bella spoke with full confidence. At the same time, her psionic power began to suppress the negative energy of the Otherworld, attempting to pry into the framework of the entire Otherworld.

Negative energy accumulated very quickly, but like the demonic cultivation techniques in Wuxia novels, it was fast to train but had huge hidden dangers and many impurities. Bella listened to people praise her every day; the effect was indeed slow, but it was solid—power that belonged entirely to her, without impurities.

The first round of confrontation ended with her winning by a slight margin. The opponent's energy had to cover an entire interstitial space, while Bella only needed to break through one point. The difficulty levels were different, so one couldn't rashly say she was strong and the enemy was weak.

A shred of light pierced the black curtain. Then, more and more rays of light gathered together, turning into a ball of light that could illuminate a range of three or four meters.

The rest of the Otherworld didn't recede; it stayed bloody, dark, and corrupted. However, Bella's light ball achieved a certain purification effect within a small range.

Truly an incredible ability! Before 006 could express his emotion, he felt Bella press down hard on his shoulder.

"Get down!"

006 lowered his head subconsciously. Immediately after, he saw a machete, fully two meters long, sweep over his head at high speed.

The heavy yet sharp blade was wreathed in a pungent smell of blood. It seemed as if countless vengeful spirits were wailing within the blood grooves. If such a huge blade hit him, he would be dead for sure!
