Chapter 75 88.89. The True Reborn Tang San
The Sea God's divine consciousness entered the room. He looked coldly at the infant Tang San in the cradle, then pulled out Tang San's soul origin and shoved it in.
The poor original Tang San had only just arrived in this world and was immediately usurped.
"All right, what Lord Asura commanded me is done." After finishing, the Sea God turned and left.
If he had lingered a moment longer, he would have seen a scene that would have shocked him.
A tear opened in the space; a fragment of a soul flew out from the rift and aimed straight for Tang San. The soul shard burrowed into Tang San's body and began to compete with the original Tang San's source.
That soul shard was unusually high in quality and soon devoured the original Tang San's soul, occupying Tang San's body.
Within a single night, the little Tang San had been usurped twice.
After returning to the Divine Realm, the Sea God immediately notified the Asura God: "Lord Asura, everything is completed."
Asura nodded with satisfaction. He then used the Divine Realm Central Hub to check the activities of the other five God Kings — Benevolence, Evil, Life, Destruction, Eternity — and found nothing abnormal. He breathed a sigh of relief.
Guiding an otherworldly soul into a plane, carrying out a usurpation, and stealing the fate of a plane-born child is a violation in the Divine Realm. Although in theory Asura sets the rules, there are five other God Kings of equal rank. If such a dishonorable act were discovered, it would be troublesome — especially with that fellow Eternity. They showed no movement; it seemed using the Central Hub's authority to cover the scheme had been the right move.
Asura opened his divine sight and looked down upon the Lower Realm. The little Tang San lay peacefully in the cradle.
"All plans are proceeding very smoothly," Asura said. Then he glanced toward the sleeping A'Yin and said coldly, "Now that this spirit beast has completed her important mission, it's time to send her on her way for the sake of the big baby."
A continent can only have a single Blue Silver Emperor. As long as A'Yin lived, Tang San's other martial soul could at most become Blue Silver King. To maximize Tang San's prospects, sacrificing A'Yin was the next step Asura planned to take.
Asura removed all concealment over the locations of Tang Hao and A'Yin, then in a thought influenced a Title Douluo elder of the Spirit Hall who was out traveling.
Under Asura's influence, that elder headed toward the reclusive place where Tang Hao and A'Yin lived.
"Let the Spirit Hall send this ten-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor on her way. Without storms, how can you grow? With this grudge of a mother's death as motivation, let the Spirit Hall be your whetstone; big baby, you'll grow faster." Old Asura spoke to little Tang San with earnest feeling.
Eternal Shrine
Huo Yuhao used the Eye of Eternity to examine the river of fate. Not long ago, part of that river had been shrouded in mist.
He looked toward the Divine Realm Central Hub and sneered, "Deceiving yourself — do you think you've fooled me?"
Even if Huo Yuhao had no past-life knowledge of the Douluo Continent, playing games of concealment in front of the god who understands fate best is like showing off a big sword before Guan Yu. Or perhaps the Central Hub's power gave you the confidence to think you could hide everything!
Huohao did not expose the concealment immediately, because he had been waiting for this moment for a long time. He soon unmasked the part of the river of fate that Asura had hidden; Tang Hao, A'Yin, Tang San's locations and destinies were all revealed to Huo Yuhao at a glance.
He opened his divine sight to check Tang Hao and A'Yin's situation. Seeing the little runt beside the basket, a cold smile crept across Huohao's mouth: "Little runt, I've waited for you for hundreds of years (in the Divine Realm's time)."
Huohao pierced Asura's concealment and, with a thought, activated a god-mind he had lurking on the Douluo Continent.
Huohao's divine consciousness arrived at the reclusive place of Tang Hao and A'Yin. He looked at the sleeping little runt and said, "If it's just to torment a newly-transmigrated little runt, that's boring. Let Brother Hao give you a bit more flavor."
After speaking, Huohao's divine mind first read the little runt's memories, and then...
Huohao was stunned!
Tang San had truly been reborn?
Given enough time to read the river of fate, Huohao could have known Tang San was a genuine reborn soul — but it happened so suddenly that he was caught off guard.
It turned out that when Tang San had been backstabbed by Huohao in the past, with both divine artifact and god-seed crushed, a fragment of a broken soul still traversed time and space to the Douluo Continent of this era.
Like the soul shard of Ilex, this soul fragment landed on Tang San's body. But the little runt's soul shard did not choose, like Ilex, to hide in the Sea of Consciousness and support Tang San. Instead, it directly devoured the otherworldly Tang San and occupied his body.
"Truly worthy of you, Tang San. But doing this is human nature," Huohao remarked with emotion. Then his expression turned vicious: "However, little runt, I had planned to use a fake reborn version of you for my entertainment. But that is self-amusement; a fake reborn is not truly reborn. Yet you actually crossed time and space into this world, right under my eyes — ha ha ha!"
"This is wonderful!"
Huohao's body trembled as he laughed behind his hand. When the emotional outburst subsided, his gaze turned cold as he looked at Tang San's soul: "Your past-life memories lack a bit of melodrama. I'll give them a tweak — if your love isn't heartrending, how can it reflect your little runt's devotion?"
In the previous life, when Huohao had backstabbed Tang San and crushed Asura's god-seed, Xiao Wu's soul had turned with the god-seed into ash. Tang San's soul fragment had escaped unnoticed into the corners of the Divine Realm — even Huohao hadn't noticed this leak.
But this story wasn't romantic. Huohao waved his divine consciousness, produced a soul surgical blade, pulled Tang San's soul out, and placed it on an operating table.
"The story will go like this: Huohao backstabs, crushes Tang San's divine position, and Xiao Wu's soul escapes with Tang San. To protect Tang San in the timestream's chaos, Xiao Wu's soul is gradually erased until only a poignant final farewell remains; Xiao Wu disappears completely, leaving the little runt adrift in the chaos, carrying hatred and love for countless years until finally arriving in the era when he and Xiao Wu met." As Huohao spoke, he manipulated Tang San's soul.
When finished, he stuffed the mosaicked mass back into Tang San's body, then left.
While Huohao's physical body in the Divine Realm used the Eye of Eternity to observe the Douluo Continent, he also noticed the Spirit Hall Title Douluo whom Asura had influenced.
In an instant Huohao discerned Asura's entire plan.
It amounted to using the Spirit Hall to deal with the previous Blue Silver Emperor. Only if A'Yin died could Tang San have the chance to be recognized by millions of blue-silver grass and become the Blue Silver Emperor.
A'Yin's death was necessary, but Huohao, as director of the grand scheme, wasn't satisfied with Asura's script. He decided to tweak Asura's play.
With a thought he influenced that Spirit Hall Title Douluo, and on the other side of the Douluo Continent, Huohao's influence also reached a Title Douluo of the Haotian Sect.
"Tianmeng..." Huohao said.
"I'm here, Yu." Tianmeng stood to attention.
"I need you to go down to the Lower Realm." Huohao pointed to a valley on the Douluo Continent and said, "Ambush there, and wait for my command."
"Understood, Brother Hao." Tianmeng turned and left through a planar passage.
Huohao then contacted Snow Emperor and others on the Douluo Continent. After arranging everything, he said, "Now, the show is about to begin."
Knowing Tang San had memories of his past life, Tang Hao soon noticed something wrong with Tang San.
A newborn Tang San should cry, fuss, and want feeding—behave exactly like a baby. But this newborn now was tranquil, steady, sleeping quietly in his cradle.
Even if stunned, Tang Hao knew his child's soul had been replaced.
Thinking of that child whose soul had been usurped not long after birth, a complex guilt passed through Tang Hao's heart.
Normally, any father learning his child had been usurped would be unable to bear it; Tang Hao was no exception. Yet remembering that in his past life Tang San had been filial, that he was chosen by Asura, that he would become a god and lead the Tang clan to the peak, Tang Hao could only accept through tears the fact that Tang San was his biological son in body if not in soul.
He resolved to endure this injustice. After all, as a father he could not resist Asura's arrangements, and he could not refuse the chance of having a God King son and attaining rulership of a plane.
Still, Tang Hao decided that when little San became a god and A'Yin was resurrected with her memories erased and reshaped to love only him, he would have another child with A'Yin — pure in both soul and body, entirely his own. He wouldn't demand greatness for that child; just arrange for a secondary godly position for him to inherit so he could stay with Tang Hao and A'Yin forever.
Having decided, Tang Hao began to recall what had happened in the previous life.
"In the last life, not long after San was born, a Spirit Hall Title Douluo elder broke into my home to seize him. I repelled him, but out of consideration for the sect I didn't offend the Spirit Hall and let him go. Who could have expected he would report back and bring the Pope and Title Douluos to hunt us." Tang Hao closed his eyes and recited those memories.
"Soon after, that Title Douluo will appear here," Tang Hao said.
This life he would let that Spirit Hall Title Douluo go too — not out of deference to the sect, but for a baser purpose. He needed A'Yin sacrificed to yield a ten-thousand-year soul ring and a soul bone beneficial to little San's growth. Only with A'Yin dead would the Blue Silver Emperor position be vacant so little San might rise. Later, when A'Yin is resurrected and her memories wiped to love only him, everything would proceed as he wished.
"Come then, Spirit Hall Title Douluo. I Tang Hao will wait right here. This is the beginning of our grudge with the Spirit Hall and the start of its downfall." Tang Hao declared passionately.
A few days later, a Title Douluo did arrive — but not from the Spirit Hall. It was Tang Kai, the newly titled Haotian Sect Title Douluo, titled Kaitian.
When Kaitian Douluo was returning to the Haotian Sect, he passed through a valley and sensed the presence of a powerful spirit beast.
Curiosity drove him to investigate. From a cliff he looked down into the valley and saw a small house. Someone was holding a child in the courtyard and a woman sat at a distance.
"That is a ten-thousand-year spirit beast in humanoid form," Tang Kai felt the intense aura from the woman and was thrilled.
One ten-thousand-year spirit beast meant a ten-thousand-year soul ring and a ten-thousand-year soul bone. Moreover, she was a humanoid-transformed spirit beast with little combat power herself.
Greed for that ten-thousand-year spirit animal took root in Tang Kai's heart. A pity — he had only just attached his ninth soul ring. But he thought that if he captured it and brought it back to his sect to keep, later when a near-Title Douluo needed rings, he could slay it for bone and ring.
With that in mind, Tang Kai gathered soul power and flew down into the valley.
At that moment, Tang Hao was holding little Tang San when he sensed a powerful aura approaching.
"Is it time? The Spirit Hall Title Douluo has come," Tang Hao smiled, casually setting Tang San into the cradle and summoning the Haotian Hammer. Eight soul rings — yellow, purple, black, black — swirled about him. "Good. Let the Spirit Hall Title Douluo forge my name from this moment."
With that, Tang Hao leaped and flew toward the incoming soul master.
Two enormous soul-power auras collided, and Tang Hao immediately sensed something amiss.
"This is the aura of the Haotian Hammer!"
The newcomer hovered some ten meters away and stared at the Haotian Hammer in Tang Hao's hand.
"You are... my second nephew?" Tang Kai said in surprise.
"And you... Uncle Kai?" Tang Hao also sized up the newcomer, astonished.
Tang Kai recovered from his shock and glared sternly: "Tang Hao, do you have no sense of the sect? You disappeared for decades, causing the sect much trouble; so you're hiding here."
Tang Hao lowered his head in silence. Even after millennia as a plane ruler in his memories, the sect-slave genes still influenced him.
"You've broken past Level 90." Tang Kai eyed Tang Hao and the eight soul rings circling him, then looked toward A'Yin and said thoughtfully, "Hiding here — do you plan to keep that spirit beast until you obtain the ninth ring, then return?"
Even A'Yin could hear those words.
