Chapter 57 62.63. Twin Secret Chambers
A Yin's figure weaved through the forest, using the energy borrowed from the Blue Silver Grass bit by bit to break through Tang Hao's soul-power seal.
She didn't know how long she had been running; she was now very, very far from the place where she had been imprisoned.
"This way, Tang Hao shouldn't catch up," A Yin thought, then said aloud, "Next I should go find Xiao-ge, but…"
Thinking of Xiao-ge's origins in the Haotian Sect and that he still resided there, and considering she herself was the ten-thousand-year soul beast incarnated, going to the Haotian Sect would be like a lamb walking into a tiger's den.
"Better to wait until I reach Soul Saint and dampen this soul-beast aura on me before going to find Xiao-ge," A Yin mulled it over and made that decision.
As she prepared to move on, suddenly a Haotian Hammer suffused with blood-red soul power was hurled out from deep in the forest and landed in front of A Yin. The violent ripple of soul power blew A Yin backward repeatedly.
"Haotian Hammer!" Seeing the ruin the hammer had smashed into, A Yin felt a sudden unease.
"Unexpected—after so many years, your heart still only has Tang Xiao—" A voice full of anger and jealousy came from the depths of the forest. Immediately after, a figure emerged from the woods and stood atop the hammer's handle.
"Tang Hao." Recognizing him, A Yin's legs went weak; despair and desolation filled her heart. "How did you find me?"
"Why did I?" Tang Hao was silent for a moment, looked up at the sky, then fixed his sharp eyes on A Yin. "It was fate that led me to you, A Yin. So all these years you've been playing with me."
"Even now I'm not afraid to tell you: the one I truly like has never been you. Face the truth, Tang Hao." A Yin answered resolutely.
"Why? Why is your heart always for Tang Xiao? What does he have that's better than me? What spell did he put on you? We should be together." Tang Hao's voice was full of sorrow and fury as he accused A Yin.
A Yin replied coldly, "He didn't put any spell on me. I have loved him deeply all along. Tang Hao, you don't even count as a hair of his to me!"
That last sentence struck Tang Hao like a blow. In his previous life, A Yin had always looked at him with loving eyes and said, "Hao-ge, you're the best man in the world." So why was this life different? Tang Hao's eyes reddened; breathing like an ox, he flexed his muscular arms, clenching his fists and pounding fiercely on his chest, screaming like a baboon: "Aaaaaa—"
After venting, Tang Hao's bloodshot eyes turned toward A Yin as if he had made a decision.
He jumped down, summoned the Haotian Hammer back into his hand, and walked toward A Yin. "Come back with me, A Yin." His voice was calm and cold now, no longer the previous rage—but this controlled Tang Hao frightened A Yin.
"You—what do you want to do? No, I don't want to." A Yin shook her head and backed away.
"A Yin, be sensible. Come back with me. Don't make trouble." Tang Hao spoke in an authoritative tone that left no room for refusal.
A Yin immediately turned and ran deeper into the dense woods, summoning the Blue Silver Grass along the way to shield her from Tang Hao. She ran while glancing back, but saw only the broad-shouldered man in black standing there with a sullen face, watching her and not pursuing.
She dared not stop for even a moment. She didn't know how far she ran until exhaustion forced her to lean against a tree stump, gasping for breath.
"Had enough running?" Tang Hao's cold voice came from behind her.
"You—" A Yin turned in horror. She saw Tang Hao's face; the next moment, a sudden, sharp pain bit the back of her neck and she lost consciousness.
Tang Hao looked at A Yin collapsed on the ground, brows tightly furrowed, eyes revealing pain and inner struggle. Finally he sighed helplessly. "A Yin, it seems we were always destined to reach this point."
He lifted A Yin onto his shoulder and headed back the way he had come. He had constructed a small secret chamber inside that cabin; now was the time for it to be put to use.
Meanwhile, Bibi Dong had been intercepted by Title Douluo Jinzhong when she tried to elope with Yu Xiaogang and was taken to meet Qian Xunji.
Following Elder Jinzhong down the path, Bibi Dong felt apprehensive. Although her Teacher usually indulged her, she didn't know how he would deal with her now. She imagined many possible scenes of meeting the Teacher and how she would explain herself.
Back in the solemn Spirit Hall, standing before Qian Xunji on the Pope's seat, all of Bibi Dong's prepared words evaporated.
"Bibi Dong, you would betray the Spirit Hall for some Yu Xiaogang?" Qian Xunji demanded as soon as he approached.
"Teacher, Dong'er did not intend to betray the Spirit Hall," Bibi Dong hurriedly tried to explain.
"If you didn't mean it, then why did you pack your things and arrange to meet Yu Xiaogang in Okra Town to escape my Spirit Hall?" Qian Xunji asked.
"I—I…" Bibi Dong's face went pale. She realized that regardless of intent, her actions already constituted desertion.
Bibi Dong opened her mouth to argue, but Qian Xunji cut her off without a word: "Bibi Dong, remember this: without my consent, from now on you shall not leave the Spirit Hall."
Hearing that, Bibi Dong's desire to explain vanished. The Teacher had nailed down her desertion and used it to constrain her.
She thought back to being confined to the Spirit Hall since age six, rarely getting opportunities to go out.
She remembered what Xiao Gang had told her: you're like a bird trapped in a cage; the Spirit Hall is your cage. Dong'er, you're the most beautiful woman in this world. You shouldn't stay in the Spirit Hall—you should break free and fly into the outer world.
She also remembered another thing Xiao Gang said: your Teacher's cultivation and support are not pure; he values only your talent and is brainwashing you into a weapon for the Spirit Hall. He doesn't love you—only openly uses you. I am different. I truly love you; I might be the only man in this world who truly cares for you.
Bibi Dong kept her head down and clenched her fists so others couldn't see her expression. With anger in her voice, she said, "Even if it's Teacher, you can't take away my freedom."
"You belong to the Spirit Hall. I am your Teacher. I gave you everything, so you must obey me in everything." Qian Xunji spoke imperiously.
Then, as if making up her mind, Bibi Dong knelt. "Teacher, please allow me to leave the Spirit Hall. Dong'er no longer wishes to remain."
"What did you say?" Qian Xunji's gaze sharpened. "Say it again."
"Teacher, please allow Dong'er to leave the Spirit Hall." Bibi Dong repeated.
Qian Xunji laughed loudly. "So you think your wings are strong? Listen: you were born of the Spirit Hall and will die as the Spirit Hall's ghost. Want to leave? No way."
At that moment, the words "Spirit Hall" felt like a weight of a thousand stones pressing down on Bibi Dong; she could hardly breathe.
"Xiao Gang was right—the Spirit Hall is a cage. If Teacher won't let me leave, then I will leave on my own." Bibi Dong turned away in a huff.
"But you won't have the chance." Qian Xunji's figure flickered and he suddenly appeared before Bibi Dong.
"Teacher, you—"
The next instant, Bibi Dong felt a sharp pain at the back of her neck and then lost consciousness.
"I—what happened?" A Yin blinked awake in a daze, and the first thing she saw was the dark underground chamber. Instinctively she reached for the edge of the bed and grabbed cold iron—the bars of a cage. "Where is this… hiss, it hurts."
She moved and felt a tearing pain.
She frowned and tried to recall what had happened before she fainted, unease swelling inside her.
"You're awake." Tang Hao sat outside the iron cage, looking at A Yin with a complicated expression.
"Tang Hao—did you do this to me?" As consciousness returned, A Yin's heart sank.
"What needed to be done, I did." Tang Hao replied in a low voice.
"You, Tang Hao, you—" A Yin's gaze shifted from shock to anger and finally to a look of bitter hatred. "You're not human, you beast!"
Tears streamed down her face.
A Yin's stare made Tang Hao feel indescribably pained. He wanted to be with A Yin—not in the mode of Qian Xunji and Bibi Dong, but in the way they had been in his past life: loving spouses, harmonious and devoted.
"Call me a beast if you like, say I'm not human. But I love you." Tang Hao said earnestly.
"Shut up. A beast like you has no right to speak of love. If you truly loved me, you would let me be with Tang Xiao." A Yin cried.
Hearing that, Tang Hao's eyes reddened; his breath quickened. He snarled, "No—you belong to me. How could I ever give you to Tang Xiao?" Thinking of the tangled interests behind A Yin—fortune, the Child of Fate Tang San, the support of the God King, the throne of a future world-ruler—Tang Hao could not hand over such bounty even to his own brother.
"A Yin, don't you realize only I, Tang Hao, sincerely love you?" Tang Hao insisted.
"Haha—sincere?" A Yin drew a deep breath. "I don't know what plans you're plotting, but Tang Hao, you are very purposeful." She said, "Kill me, then. My body has been defiled by you; I'm tainted and have no face to face Xiao-ge."
A Yin feeling dirtied by their encounter crushed Tang Hao. Did she truly think him so despicable? The pain nearly stopped his breath.
"I'll choose to end my life then," A Yin said. She scanned the room and spotted a pair of scissors by the bed. She grabbed them and tried to slash her throat, but Tang Hao's reflexes were faster and he stopped her.
"A Yin." Tang Hao, helpless, resorted to his trump card. "You are the ten-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor's incarnation. I know you come from the Blue Silver Forest, where the Blue Silver Emperor's legacy remains. If you die, I will destroy that inheritance site. What will happen then? A Yin, you wouldn't want the Blue Silver Emperor's legacy to end, would you?"
A Yin trembled. She turned and looked at Tang Hao with a fierce glare. "So your true aim is exposed: you want my soul rings and soul bones so that when you reach Level 90 you can obtain a ten-thousand-year soul ring, right?"
Tang Hao turned his head, unable to meet A Yin's eyes. Those were things A Yin had told him in their travels in a past life; in this life many events had transpired such that she couldn't possibly have told him these things now—but he had spoken them out loud. Any explanation felt pale and powerless.
Tang Hao walked toward the exit of the chamber. "A Yin, just obey me and I will ensure the Blue Silver Emperor's legacy remains stable." He avoided her accusing glance.
If she bore his child, A Yin would be forced by the Spirit Hall's pursuit to sacrifice and leave behind the Blue Silver Emperor's life seed. When that child matured into a god, he would revive A Yin, and using Tang San's ability he would erase all memories of Tang Xiao from A Yin. Then they could be the loving couple from his visions, ruling life and death across the Douluo world together.
In the divine realm, the Asura God Temple watched Tang Hao's every move. The Asura God looked down on Tang Hao's actions with contempt. "What a coward. You broke Tang Xiao, kidnapped the Blue Silver Emperor, put her in a secret chamber. Do you really expect her to return your love? You might as well be straightforward."
He worried: "If the big treasure inherits half of this man's blood, will he also become someone swayed by emotions—a useless man? That mustn't happen."
"I—what happened?" Bibi Dong blinked awake in a daze, and saw the dim underground chamber. Instinctively she grabbed at the bed edge and found iron bars—she was in a cage. "Where is this… hiss, it hurts."
She moved and felt a tearing pain.
Bibi Dong frowned and tried to recall the moments before she fainted, unease rising.
"You're awake!" Qian Xunji sat by the bed and said coldly.
"What did you…do to me?" Bibi Dong sensed something was wrong with her body. Though she already suspected what had happened, she could not bring herself to accept it.
"Didn't you already know the answer?" Qian Xunji spat out the cruel truth. "Bibi Dong, you are no longer pure. Your body belongs to me now. Do you still have the face to be with that man?"
"You—Qian Xunji, you beast." Bibi Dong spoke in grief and fury.
Despite Yu Xiaogang's repeated brainwashing claiming her Teacher's motives were impure, Bibi Dong had still regarded him as a father. But now he had done something like this to her.
Bibi Dong's world seemed to shatter.
