Chapter 56 61. Xiao Gang Howls at the Sky
Yu Xiao Gang sat blankly amid the devastation left by the Golden Holy Dragon, his body shrouded in the endless abyss of despair.
He thought of leaving his clan, of debasing himself to seduce the Holy Maiden Bibi Dong, of enduring humiliation as he bowed before Qian Xunji, of risking his life to obtain that Golden Dragon Nurturing Fruit from Spirit Hall—only for it to fall into the hands of his most hated enemy, Yu Xiaomen.
His martial spirit was still the pitiable Luo Sanpao, while Yu Xiaomen had seized his destiny and evolved his spirit into the Golden Holy Dragon. The gap between them hadn't closed; it had widened beyond hope. That cruel truth crushed Yu Xiao Gang's soul.
Luo Sanpao waddled up to him, snorting softly as it rubbed its head against his leg.
Yu Xiao Gang stared at the chubby purple pig before him, then pictured the majestic Golden Holy Dragon soaring behind Yu Xiaomen. Rage boiled up within him. He grabbed a thorned branch from the ground and lashed out viciously.
"Oink! Oink!" Luo Sanpao squealed in pain, the blows raining down on its body.
"You! It's you!" Yu Xiao Gang roared, his voice full of venom. "You dragged me down—you, my useless spirit! It's you who robbed me of the Golden Holy Dragon! Everything I've suffered is because of you! Give back what's mine—my Golden Holy Dragon!"
Ignoring the feedback pain from striking his own martial spirit, Yu Xiao Gang continued beating Luo Sanpao relentlessly until the creature's flesh split and bled. Only then did his strength fail him. Dropping the stick, he fell to his knees and raised his trembling hands toward the darkened heavens.
Then began the infamous scene later known as "Xiao Gang Howls at the Sky."
"Look at me, Heaven above! Why have you cursed me with such injustice? I know you can see me! Tell me—what have I done wrong? Answer me!" His anguished cry tore through the silent, moonlit night.
In the Divine Realm, the Eternal Temple
A vast screen of divine light projected the scene like a television drama.
Before it, Yu Xiao Gang was seen kneeling, hands raised, crying out to the heavens. Outside that vision, Huo Yuhao casually tossed a golden fruit into the air—a Golden Dragon Nurturing Fruit—and caught it again. After a moment of boredom, he threw it idly into a nearby fruit basket.
The basket was already overflowing with Golden Dragon Nurturing Fruits. Seated beside him were Evil Emperor, Xiao Bai, and Tian Meng, all enjoying the very same divine fruit Yu Xiao Gang had risked everything for.
"This fruit?" Tian Meng said mockingly, glancing at Huo Yuhao. "Hao Ge only brought it out so you could smell it, clown. You were never meant to eat it. You're just the delivery boy for celestial treasures."
"Hahaha!" Evil Emperor and Xiao Bai burst into laughter.
Watching Yu Xiao Gang's pitiful tragedy unfold below, the gods of the temple laughed heartily, their hall echoing with joy.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the mortal world—
The false "reincarnator" Tang Hao had crippled Tang Xiao with his hammer and kidnapped A Yin, bringing her to a remote sanctuary. Yet despite everything, he dared not violate her.
Because deep inside, Tang Hao still held feelings for her.
A Yin, on the other hand, felt nothing but disgust. But realizing Tang Hao still harbored affection, she played into it—offering just enough warmth to feed his delusions and make him lower his guard, waiting patiently for her chance to escape.
When Tang Hao reached the Contra level and prepared to obtain his eighth spirit ring, that chance finally came.
"A Yin, I need to leave for a while," he said, wary of her. Before departing, he sealed her soul power and locked her inside a room. "Wait for me," he added apologetically. "I'll be back soon."
Then he left.
But A Yin would not sit idle. Her power was sealed, but she was the Blue Silver Empress—she commanded the Blue Silver Grass itself. She willed the vines around her to form tendrils, prying open the locked door and slipping away into the night.
"Brother Xiao, wait for me. I'm coming to find you," she whispered as she ran. "It's my fault. If not for me, that beast Tang Hao wouldn't have harmed you so terribly. When I find the Blue Silver King, I'll command him to sacrifice himself for you—his vast life force should be enough to heal you." With a heart heavy with grief, A Yin vanished into the forest.
Without the resources of his sect, Tang Hao could only hunt a sixty‑thousand‑year Power King Kong Ape for his eighth ring. It wasn't ideal, but he made do.
After two hours of absorption, he stood up, too arrogant to test his new skill—after all, he had once reached the divine level.
He began to plan his next moves.
By the destined path, he would soon reunite with A Yin, conceive Tang San, then lose A Yin when her spirit beast aura exposed them to Spirit Hall. Cornered, A Yin would sacrifice herself to him. With her soul ring and bones, he would slaughter a Title Douluo and wound another, even gravely injuring the Pope Qian Xunji—all feats that made his name legendary.
Though later generations credited Qian Xunji's death to Bibi Dong, his fame as "the man who struck down the Pope" persisted long after.
Thinking of this, his gaze drifted toward his yet‑empty ninth ring. Once he had tasted paradise, how could he tolerate scraps?
With a sigh, Tang Hao muttered, "Forgive me, A Yin. You'll have to suffer for a while. But don't worry—our separation will be brief. When our son reaches godhood, we'll be reunited."
In the Asura God's Temple in the Divine Realm
The god watched Tang Hao smugly plotting his future, completely unaware that A Yin had already fled.
"What a fool. Can't even keep track of his own woman," Asura sneered.
"If Plan B—Tang Xiao—hadn't already failed, I wouldn't have needed you to father the boy," he muttered, flicking his finger. A spark of red light streaked downward, striking Tang Hao.
In the mortal realm
Tang Hao jolted violently as bloody light flashed across his eyes.
"A Yin—!"
He suddenly sensed her absence.
"Why, A Yin? I thought we were finally becoming something real. Why did you run?" he shouted in anguish. "Do you still love Tang Xiao?"
With madness in his gaze, Tang Hao lifted the Clear Sky Hammer and stormed in the direction his senses pointed, chasing after her.
