Chapter 38: Xiaogang Shakes Yu Yuanzhen with Fury

"Even a useless soul master still has his place. Look at the Clear Sky Sect—they too have their own cripple, the Sect Master's daughter Tang Yuehua. She only reached rank nine her entire life, yet her business empire brings endless profit to her sect. And then look at our Yu Xiaogang—what has he ever contributed to our clan?"

"The facts are clear. Yu Xiaogang is nothing but a pile of rotten mud that can't stick to the wall. Years of resources wasted on this pig, and for what? The Elder Council has decided: no more squandering our wealth on this failure. From today forward, Yu Xiaogang's status as a core disciple is revoked. Yu Xiaomen will be established as the sect's Young Master, while Yu Xiaogang shall lose all cultivation privileges and be demoted to a servant disciple, responsible for menial work."

Yu Yuanzhen could not refute Yu Luomian's accusations. Every word was true.

He sighed heavily and, instead of using his authority as sect master to overturn the decision, simply waved his hand. "Fine. It will be carried out as the council decrees."

Suddenly, faint footsteps came from outside—the sound of someone running.

Rushing to the door, Yu Yuanzhen looked out only to see his son's back disappearing in the distance, tears and snot streaming down his face.

As Yu Xiaogang ran across the sect grounds, disciples and servants all stopped to watch him pass.

"Isn't that Yu Xiaogang? Crying again—probably ran to his father after getting bullied."

"From the direction he came, I bet something in the council chamber didn't go his way," one snickered.

Yu Xiaoke sneered. "You guys don't know the half of it. If not for his old man shielding him, the council would've stripped him of his core disciple title long ago. Looks like even his father's given up now."

Yu Xiaozhu laughed mockingly. "Golden Holy Dragon? Hah! If Yu Xiaogang's pig of a martial soul ever evolves into a Golden Holy Dragon, I'll eat shit standing on my head."

Yu Xiaoren chimed in, "That kind of trash—always crying, whining, running to daddy for help, wasting triple the resources of any elite disciple—what a joke. If I were sect master, I'd have kicked him out long ago and let him fend for himself."

Later that night, Yu Yuanzhen approached his son's door, his heart heavy with mixed emotions. He opened it and found only darkness inside.

Standing in the doorway, light spilling around him, his eyes searched the room until they landed on a small figure curled up in a corner like a trembling worm.

Anger surged within him. "Yu Xiaogang, come out here."

The boy flinched, rising shakily to his feet and standing before his father.

Wiping away tears with the back of his hand, he asked softly, "Father, I heard everything… What does it mean—'rank twenty-nine is my limit'?"

Yu Yuanzhen took a long breath. "Some things you must face sooner or later. The world is not fair. Everyone is born with a line—a ceiling that defines their potential. Yours… is low. Your innate soul power was recorded as 0.5 levels, but even that number is generous, a form of comfort. If you'd been born into an ordinary family, you'd never have become a soul master at all.

"This sect has poured countless resources into you. I've given you my own soul power for cultivation. That's the only reason you reached this far. But… rank twenty-nine is your peak. Even if I poured every drop of the clan's resources into you, even if I gave you all my soul power, it would not change this truth. You will never break rank thirty."

The words dropped like a death sentence.

"No… I don't believe it!" Yu Xiaogang shouted, eyes bloodshot.

"You must accept reality, Xiaogang," his father urged gently. "At the very least, you are a soul master, are you not?"

Yu Xiaogang's eyes filled with hatred. "Father… you were the one person I trusted most—and even you've abandoned me? You agreed with the elders to strip me of my core disciple title, to humiliate me as a lowly worker, while Yu Xiaomen gets crowned Young Master?"

The thought of being a worthless servant while his cousin took the seat of power burned through his pride like acid.

"Yu Xiaogang," Yu Yuanzhen said sternly, "you were given every chance. Don't always blame others—learn to look within yourself. Do you understand how many times the elders demanded I expel you? Every time, I stood against them! If I weren't the only Title Douluo in this sect, I'd have lost my position long ago for your sake."

"So that's it!" Yu Xiaogang roared, veins bulging in his neck. "You never cared about me at all! You only care about your damn position!"

"You—you—you—!" Yu Yuanzhen was shaking with rage, words caught in his throat.

But Yu Xiaogang didn't stop; he pressed on, spitting out his venomous frustration: "You tell me to look for faults within myself? What faults could I possibly have? My martial soul should have been the Golden Holy Dragon! Why, tell me why, did it awaken as a pig instead? But did I give up? No! I've worked two hundred times harder than any other soul master! I've clawed my way to rank twenty-nine with sheer will! Tell me—what other waste with 0.5 innate soul power has ever done that?"

"Why? Why can't the sect see my effort? Why should I take the blame? Maybe it's not me that's flawed—maybe it's you! Maybe it's this whole damn sect!" His spit flew with every raging word.

Thus began a verbal storm—this frail young man, yelling, trembling, yet defiantly standing before the towering figure of his father, his saliva spattering Yu Yuanzhen's face and beard.

Finally, his voice broke into a hoarse scream, echoing through the entire Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon compound:

"Rank twenty-nine is my limit? No! I refuse! The sect wants me to be a servant? Never! Hear me, Yu Yuanzhen! I, Yu Xiaogang, will surpass rank twenty-nine! I will become more than a Soul Elder! I'll ascend to the very peak of the continent! One day, all of Douluo will revere the name Yu Xiaogang!

"If the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan can't fix my martial soul, then I'll find someone who can! I'll go to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect! To the Clear Sky Sect! To the Spirit Hall, if I must! There has to be someone who can remove this flaw. And when that day comes—when I stand atop the world—you and everyone who looked down on me will look up at me in worship!"

With that, Yu Xiaogang stormed out, leaving a dark silence behind.

Yu Yuanzhen stood motionless, his expression grim. After a long silence, he wiped the spittle from his face with his sleeve.

Footsteps approached from behind. He didn't need to turn around to know who it was.

"You came back… for what?" he asked coldly.

Yu Xiaogang's jaw tightened. He extended his hand toward his father. "The Sect Decree," he said flatly.
