Chapter 40: Immortal Herbs and God-Given Spirit Rings
"This is…" Yue Guan's voice trembled, his lips quivering. "Immortal herbs… all of them are immortal herbs!"
"Chrysanthemum Douluo, mind your composure before the Worshipers," Ghost Douluo whispered coldly.
"You don't understand!" Yue Guan turned to him with wild excitement. "Do you know what the Young Mistress has brought forth? Immortal herbs! How can I possibly stay calm?!"
"Immortal herbs? What exactly are they?" Ghost Douluo asked, puzzled.
Yue Guan explained with reverence, "These are treasures that exist only in the heavens—mortals hardly ever encounter them. For most, talent is fixed at birth… but these herbs can change that! Immortal herbs are opportunities that defy destiny itself."
His words made the hall erupt in whispers. Until this moment, most had thought the flowers and plants Qian Renxue brought were mere curiosities—but now their eyes burned with feverish awe.
Qian Renxue smiled faintly. "Yue Guan is correct. These herbs can rewrite your potential, granting you the chance to surpass your limits. I intend to bestow them upon you—but in return, you must pledge your complete loyalty and undergo the baptism of the Angel's Holy Light."
"We are willing!" said the future Demon Bear Douluo, Xiong Ju, stepping forward without hesitation.
The others quickly followed, voices overlapping in solemn unison.
Thus, one by one, they entered the Angel Temple to receive the baptism of divine radiance. When they emerged, their hearts and spirits fully belonged to the Angel God.
Qian Renxue began her bestowals.
"First, Yue Guan—the Strange Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum shall be yours."
Hands trembling, Yue Guan accepted the golden blossom. Stroking it like a lover, his eyes filled with tears. "Strange Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum… do you know how long I've searched for you? Finally—at last—fate has brought us together."
"Chrysanthemum Douluo, must you be this dramatic?" Ghost Douluo muttered, shuddering at the display.
"Hmph, you wouldn't understand! Once I fuse with this herb, perfectly attuned to my martial spirit, I'm confident I can reach the level of Second Worshiper. If only I'd found it before reaching Soul King rank, even the Limit Douluo realm might've been within reach. What a pity…" Yue Guan sighed wistfully.
Hearing this, everyone's anticipation only grew stronger.
Ghost Douluo received the Shadow Phantom Grass, Ling Yuan was given the Comb Phoenix Sunflower, and Xiong Ju was presented with a second Chrysanthemum—Huo Yuhao had transplanted many immortal herbs from the Divine Realm, after all.
After absorbing the herbs, their progress was astonishing. Those below Contras all broke through to Soul Douluo rank, and several even experienced spirit evolution.
Ling Yuan's Fire Spirit Hawk spirit, for instance, evolved into the top-tier beast spirit: the Fire Phoenix.
Yue Guan, Ghost Douluo, and Xiong Ju each advanced to quasi–Title Douluo status through the power of the herbs.
The elders around them burst into applause. "Congratulations, honored ones, on reaching the threshold of the Title realm!" Jealousy gleamed in the eyes of those who hadn't achieved such progress.
Yue Guan bowed deeply. "This blessing is all thanks to the Young Mistress's generosity. For such kindness, I, Yue Guan, would gladly give my body and soul in devoted service."
Ghost Douluo, Xiong Ju, and the others echoed his loyalty in unison.
"Their sincerity has been verified by the Holy Light," said Qian Daoliu approvingly. "Yue Guan, Ghost Douluo, Xiong Ju—step forward."
"Yes, Great Worshiper!" the three said, bowing as they approached.
Qian Daoliu brought forth three sets of spirit bones. Though not of extreme age, they would be a tremendous boon to quasi–Title Douluos. "Absorb these. With the increased constitution and spiritual strength gained from them, your ninth spirit ring must not be less than one hundred thousand years."
"Yes, Great Worshiper!" they answered in unison, gratitude shining on their faces as they began absorbing the bones.
Qian Daoliu exchanged a glance with Qian Renxue. The distribution of the spirit bones had been agreed upon by all the Worshipers.
The Spirit Hall had collected bones for over a thousand years, amassing the largest treasury on the continent. In the original timeline, most were seized by the two empires, the Clear Sky Sect, and Shrek Academy after the Hall's downfall. Better, then, to use them now—turn dormant wealth into strength.
After several hours, the three had finished their fusions. Qian Renxue then produced three luminous orbs, handing one to each.
"Young Mistress, what are these?" Ghost Douluo asked.
"God-given spirit rings," Qian Renxue said calmly. "Connect them with your spirit power, and the divine ring will manifest."
The hall erupted in murmurs of disbelief. God-given spirit rings!—the stuff of legend!
Tears welled in the three men's eyes as they followed the instructions, infusing their soul power into the pearls. The Worshipers looked on silently—it was the first time any of them had seen such a sacred ritual.
When the rings finally appeared, a few frowned in confusion. The manifested spirit rings were… pale white?
Qian Renxue smiled. "The age of a god-given spirit ring depends on your endurance. What you see now is only the beginning. If your potential is great enough, the ring can mature far beyond this—hundreds of thousands of years, even.
"Spirit Hall has granted you immortal herbs and spirit bones. To be worthy of these gifts, your ninth rings must not be less than one hundred fifty thousand years." Her eyes sharpened.
Xiong Ju nodded firmly, gripping his glowing ring. "We will not fail you. If I can't claim a hundred-fifty-thousand-year ring, I'll find some Title Douluo among the Upper Three Sects and die taking him with me—eliminating a threat to Spirit Hall."
Yue Guan and Ghost Douluo voiced their oaths as well.
The three sat cross-legged, guiding the energy of their new rings into place.
The pale light deepened swiftly into black, then darkened further—until veins of scarlet shimmered through the surface.
At last, the crimson glow swallowed the black, the color of the ring solidifying to a deep blood-red. The energy radiated like a storm—over one hundred thousand years.
The other elders exchanged awed glances. A Title Douluo with a hundred-thousand-year ring was a creature apart. The difference between ordinary and strengthened Titles was as vast as heaven and earth.
A single ring could define one's destiny. No one could reach level ninety-eight without at least one such ring; those with only ten-thousand-year ninth rings were forever caged below that boundary.
Xiong Ju's ring stabilized at one hundred seventy thousand years, the scarlet hue glowing around him while his power surged to rank ninety-two.
Yue Guan and Ghost Douluo's rings kept climbing, their auras blazing higher and higher.
Ghost Douluo's finally capped at one hundred ninety thousand years. His breakthrough came with a roar—the unmistakable power of a Title Douluo, level ninety-two.
