Chapter 63: This Is My Body
The ancient city's space was significantly larger than its external appearance suggested, but it was still a creation of a Dou Saint, bound by limitations.
In just half an incense stick's time, Xiao Yan reached the dried up riverbed dividing the Yin and Yang sides.
"Beyond this point lies the dark side," Xiao Yan muttered, halting his steps to glance at the Yin Yang Evil Saint floating above him.
"I've heard that those who come into contact with the aura here don't leave unscathed. They turn into mindless killing machines."
"You just need to move forward. Are you, the Xiao Clan's proud genius, afraid of something like this?"
"Bravery without caution is stupidity," Xiao Yan retorted.
"With my relationship to Xiao Shaobei, you have my protection," the Evil Saint assured.
Eventually, Xiao Yan chose to step into the thick black fog.
The dense fog was menacing just a glance at it could stir restlessness and violent urges. Xiao Yan could only imagine the horrors of being enveloped in it.
As soon as he entered, his surroundings plunged into darkness. His vision was severely restricted.
"Use your soul power. With your mid level seven star soul strength, you should still manage here," the Evil Saint's voice drifted from behind.
Taking a deep breath, Xiao Yan released his soul force. While it was partially obstructed by the fog, it allowed him to perceive a radius of roughly a hundred meters.
"Follow this path ahead," the Evil Saint instructed, his incorporeal form floating through the fog without hindrance, guiding Xiao Yan forward.
However, as Xiao Yan's soul force interacted with the fog, waves of violent and murderous intent began to seep into his mind.
Gradually, his eyes turned blood red.
"Not bad. You've held out this long. Your soul is not only strong but impressively stable. Your willpower exceeds my expectations," the Evil Saint remarked with a smile.
"Stop joking! I'm at my limit!" Xiao Yan panted, his breath heavy. The killing intent had infiltrated his soul, slowly eroding his resolve.
A primal urge to tear everything apart clawed at his mind.
"I can't keep this up. I'll lose myself if I go any further!" Feeling his last shred of clarity slipping away, Xiao Yan prepared to retreat.
"Don't retreat!" the Evil Saint commanded, his voice firm. A beam of pure light emanated from his soul form and shot into Xiao Yan's body.
As the light entered him, the black fog's influence on Xiao Yan's soul was wiped clean. The bloodlust melted away, leaving him clearer headed than ever before.
"My soul feels... purer?" Xiao Yan exclaimed, a trace of delight on his face. But when he turned to sense the Evil Saint's soul, he noticed it had dimmed slightly.
"Senior..." For the first time, Xiao Yan felt a pang of respect for the man.
"Heh, I'm already a dead man. Using what little remains of my soul to guide a successor is nothing to dwell on," the Evil Saint said nonchalantly.
"Keep moving forward. You're about to uncover a truly terrifying secret." His voice carried an unsettling weight.
"What secret could possibly scare the Xiao Clan's emperor scion? A Dou Emperor? I've even met a living one! What's a secret compared to that?" Xiao Yan sneered, pressing onward.
As he ventured deeper, the bloodlust crept back, threatening to overwhelm him. Each time he neared his breaking point, the Evil Saint sent another beam of cleansing light.
Each beam refined Xiao Yan's soul, not in quantity but in quality a remarkable transformation. With enough time, he was confident he could ascend to high level seven star soul power.
Yet every cleansing light came at a cost. The Evil Saint's soul grew fainter and more translucent with each use.
Finally, after traversing the oppressive darkness, a faint glimmer of light appeared ahead.
What greeted him was another Yin Yang altar, identical to the one on the Yang side.
But what lay upon this altar made Xiao Yan's scalp tingle.
At the center sat a two meter tall creature. Its body was covered in red fur, its limbs grotesquely swollen, and its hands and feet bore razor sharp black claws.
Its face was monstrous, a mask of pure malice that seemed born of the abyss.
But the most chilling detail was its eyes blood red and locked onto Xiao Yan.
The moment their gazes met, a shiver ran down Xiao Yan's spine. Through those eyes, he glimpsed boundless horror and ominous chaos.
To his dismay, strands of red fur began sprouting from his own body.
"Roar!" Xiao Yan let out a guttural growl, his fingers elongating into sharp claws.
"Awaken!" the Evil Saint's voice boomed, followed by another cleansing light.
As it washed over him, Xiao Yan regained clarity. He stared at the creature with a mix of fear and wariness.
This wasn't just any corpse. It had the power to twist reality, its mere presence warping his body and mind.
Looking above the altar, Xiao Yan noticed two small black and white fish swimming in a circle.
"The Yin Yang Dual Flame?" he murmured, dumbfounded.
"Indeed. This is the true Yin Yang Dual Flame," the Evil Saint confirmed, his voice tinged with mystery.
"What about the one on the Yang side?"
"That's also a Yin Yang Dual Flame," the Evil Saint replied.
"You have two?"
"No," the Evil Saint said with a chuckle. "The one on the Yang side is genuine but merely a sub flame. A special one, though."
"So, you gave Yao Ling a knockoff?"
"You could say that," the Evil Saint admitted with a sly grin. "But you might want to focus on the problem in front of you."
"The problem in front of me?" Xiao Yan frowned. He glanced back at the altar, only to see the monstrous creature slowly rising to its feet.
A cold sweat broke out on his forehead.
"What... what is that thing? If it attacks, I'm done for!"
The Evil Saint's expression turned grave. After a moment of silence, he said, "That... is my body."
