Chapter 62 - Chapter 62: Traces of a Dou Emperor

Chapter 62: Traces of a Dou Emperor

"Are you two members of the ancient clans?"

On the Yin Yang altar within the ruins, the Yin Yang Evil Saint gazed at the two, a mix of curiosity and realization flashing across his face.

A fifteen year old with mid level seven star soul power and an eighteen year old at high level seven star such talent was rare enough to make even him marvel.

But when he perceived the unique bloodline powers within their bodies, he seemed to understand.

To reach such heights at their age, even among ancient clan descendants, they were undoubtedly among the top prodigies.

"That's correct. I am a descendant of the Medicine Clan," Yao Ling responded obediently to the Yin Yang Evil Saint's question.

"The Medicine Clan, huh..." A flicker of something strange crossed the Evil Saint's eyes. His gaze then shifted to Xiao Yan. "And you?"

"Xiao Clan," Xiao Yan replied after a moment of thought.

"You're from the Xiao Clan?" A look of excitement surfaced on the Evil Saint's face.

"Is Xiao Shaobei still alive?"

"Xiao Shaobei? You know my clan's patriarch?" Xiao Yan raised an eyebrow in surprise.

"So Shaobei eventually became the Xiao Clan's patriarch?" A hint of relief crossed the Yin Yang Evil Saint's face.

"Seems like this old guy had a close relationship with the patriarch. Could they have been... bosom friends?" Xiao Yan speculated inwardly, but the tension in his expression eased slightly.

The man's favorable attitude toward the Xiao Clan seemed advantageous for the moment.

"To become the Xiao Clan's patriarch, Shaobei must at least have reached the seven star Dou Saint level, right?" the Evil Saint mused nostalgically.

"Actually, the minimum requirement to be our patriarch is a nine star Dou Saint," Xiao Yan stated casually.

"A... nine star Dou Saint?"

The Yin Yang Evil Saint's expression froze, shock evident on his face. Beside him, Yao Ling's eyes also glimmered with envy.

To even qualify as the Xiao Clan patriarch, one had to reach the pinnacle of the Dou Saint realm. This implied the Xiao Clan had multiple nine star Dou Saints, whereas the strongest member of the Medicine Clan was merely a seven star Dou Saint.

It became increasingly clear why it was said that even without the intervention of the legendary Xiao Xuan, the Xiao Clan could suppress the other six ancient clans.

Apart from the Ancient Clan, even if the remaining clans united, they might not be able to contend with a single nine star Dou Saint from the Xiao Clan. And the Xiao Clan had more than one such expert.

"So Shaobei has become one of the most powerful figures under heaven..." The Yin Yang Evil Saint murmured, a tinge of longing in his voice. The thousand years that had passed seemed to have transformed the world he once knew.

"If Shaobei succeeded as patriarch, does that mean Xiao Xuan passed away?" he asked again.

"No, our ancestral patriarch has ascended to become a Dou Emperor," Xiao Yan answered with calm confidence.

"What did you just say?"

The Yin Yang Evil Saint's handsome face froze in disbelief.

"Impossible. Absolutely impossible!"

He roared in denial, his expression a mix of shock and refusal to accept the truth.

"In this era, how could anyone possibly ascend to become a Dou Emperor?!"

His voice trembled, his expression unraveling into incredulity.

"Does he... know something?" Xiao Yan narrowed his eyes.

The knowledge that ascending to Dou Emperor required origin energy was a secret few knew, even within the Xiao Clan. How could a rogue Dou Saint like the Yin Yang Evil Saint possess such knowledge?

After muttering to himself for a while, the Yin Yang Evil Saint finally calmed down. His expression was complex as he asked, "Did Xiao Xuan really become a Dou Emperor?"

"Without a doubt," Xiao Yan replied firmly, watching the man's face closely.

"Could it be... that event enabled a new Dou Emperor to emerge on the continent?" The Evil Saint's whispered words caused Xiao Yan's pupils to contract.

"What event?"

Instead of answering, the Yin Yang Evil Saint smiled and looked at Xiao Yan. "You're just a Dou Huang. How do you know so much about the mysteries between the Dou Saint and Dou Emperor realms?"

"As the Xiao Clan's most exceptional genius, is it wrong for me to know these things?" Xiao Yan retorted arrogantly.

"Fair enough," the Evil Saint chuckled. "If you're the Xiao Clan's top talent, then surely you don't need my meager inheritance. I'll send you out now."

"Absolutely not!" Xiao Yan cried out.

"I've admired you since I was a child, listening to Patriarch Shaobei recount your legendary exploits. I came here not for the inheritance, but to seek guidance from someone as accomplished as you!"

"This guy's shamelessness knows no bounds," Yao Ling thought, her disbelief at Xiao Yan's brazen flattery growing stronger.

"Haha, you're truly to my liking," the Evil Saint said with a laugh. "But I must disappoint you. The Heavenly Flame cannot be yours. I owe the Medicine Clan matriarch a favor, and today, I'll repay it."

As he spoke, an invisible force enveloped Xiao Yan, pushing him out of the altar.

"You've got to be kidding me..." Xiao Yan cursed internally but swallowed his words, unwilling to provoke the Dou Saint further.

"Thank you, Senior!" Yao Ling's face lit up with joy.

She hadn't expected the Yin Yang Evil Saint to owe her clan such a favor. With the Xiao Clan genius removed, she no longer needed to fear any schemes against her.

"Once you've refined this Yin Yang Dual Flame, you'll also receive a portion of my legacy. Be warned, though despite its low rank on the Heavenly Flame list, it's still dangerous to refine. Take care."

The Evil Saint smiled faintly and floated out of the altar.

Yao Ling bowed respectfully, gratitude evident on her face, before turning her attention to the black and white flames.

She waved her hand, summoning numerous treasures to aid in the refinement process.

The Evil Saint glanced at her briefly, a subtle smirk appearing on his lips, before he floated over to Xiao Yan.

"The Heavenly Flame is hers now. I do have another inheritance, though. Are you interested?"

"You old fox," Xiao Yan thought, inwardly rolling his eyes. "You've given the best treasure to that woman, and now you're trying to fob me off with some leftover skills and techniques."

"Is it the legendary dual cultivation technique?" Xiao Yan's face lit up with feigned excitement.

"Indeed, I knew you were shameless, lecherous, and utterly unscrupulous a perfect successor to my legacy!"

"Thank you for the kind words," Xiao Yan replied with a shy smile.

"Follow me," the Evil Saint said, floating away.

"Where are we going?"

"The Yin Side."

"The Yin Side? Isn't it incredibly dangerous?"

"It is. But don't you want to know how I died?"

"I just want the dual cultivation technique!"

"My death is linked to a Dou Emperor."

"A Dou Emperor? Wait, what did you just say?"

The Evil Saint smirked. "Follow me."

In the silent, ancient ruins, a black robed youth followed a ghostly figure, stepping into the darkness of the Yin Side.
