Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: Who Else Could It Be?

Chapter 61: Who Else Could It Be?

The ancient figure was dressed in a black and white daoist robe. His long hair was jet black and thick, yet his sideburns had turned an eerie white.

He was strikingly handsome, and even with his middle aged appearance, he carried an air that could captivate countless women.

"Why are you two so tense? Go on, continue. This Saint has always been an advocate of life's harmony. The union of man and woman is one of the most beautiful things under heaven. Go on, I won't interrupt," said the Yin Yang Evil Saint with a smile that could only be described as expectant.

The smile on his face was oddly reminiscent of a certain kind of expression often seen on reclusive individuals from Xiao Yan's previous life, sitting before their computers with tissues ready.

If not for his extraordinary good looks, his expression might have been outright sleazy.

Staring at the peculiar man, Xiao Yan hesitated for a moment before quickly releasing the struggling Yao Ling and retreating to the side.

"Xiao Yan!" Yao Ling, for once, lost her usual composed demeanor. Her beautiful eyes burned with murderous intent.

"I will remember today's humiliation. I will repay it tenfold!"

"Don't be like that. We were just competing for the Heavenly Flame. There's no need for us to become enemies," Xiao Yan said, shrugging nonchalantly.

Making an enemy out of the Xiao Clan's heir was akin to courting death.

"Competing for the Heavenly Flame? You call this competition?" Yao Ling's anger reached its boiling point. Her usually cold demeanor cracked as her eyes misted with tears.

When had the Medicine Clan's Saintess ever been subjected to such humiliation?

"Not bad, not bad. You're quite shameless, kid. I like it!" The middle aged man chuckled before the argument could escalate.

Yao Ling's expression darkened, while Xiao Yan's face lit up. Yet, if one looked closely, his feet had shifted subtly, edging backward without making a sound.

Even though the man before him had perished thousands of years ago, his status as a former Dou Saint was not to be underestimated. If the Yin Yang Evil Saint harbored malicious intentions, Xiao Yan feared that even his title as the Xiao Clan heir wouldn't save him.

He valued his life far more than any Heavenly Flame or inheritance. After all, as long as he lived, he could pursue endless opportunities.

"You're cautious. Not bad," the Yin Yang Evil Saint said with a smile, his gaze falling on Xiao Yan's retreating steps.

Xiao Yan stopped mid step, his expression turning slightly awkward as he plastered on a polite yet strained smile.

"Senior's strength is unparalleled. It's only natural for a junior to prioritize his safety," Xiao Yan replied tactfully.

"That's true," the Yin Yang Evil Saint said with a smirk. "But it's already too late."

Before Xiao Yan could respond, the Yin Yang Evil Saint raised his hand slightly.

Boom!

The ancient ruins quaked violently. In an instant, the space around the altar solidified, and an invisible wall formed, sealing Xiao Yan and Yao Ling within.

"Dammit!" Xiao Yan clenched his fists and launched a full strength attack at the space barrier. His blow, which could rival a peak Dou Saint's power, landed with a thunderous crash. Yet, the wall remained unshaken.

"What are you trying to do?" Xiao Yan turned back, his gaze fixed on the Evil Saint.

"You came here for my inheritance and the Heavenly Flame, didn't you? Naturally, I'll bestow upon you a great opportunity," the Evil Saint said with a mysterious grin.

"What's the price?" Xiao Yan's expression didn't relax. Instead, he grew more vigilant.

"There's no price," the Yin Yang Evil Saint replied with a casual wave.

Then, he stretched his hand forward.

Boom!

The once serene ruins trembled once more. In the air above, an enormous hand made of pure energy, spanning hundreds of feet, began to materialize.

A terrifying suction force erupted from the hand, and all the Dou Huang level experts scattered across the ruins were pulled into its grasp.

"You little ones have already gained quite a bit from my ruins. Learn to be content," the Evil Saint's ancient voice echoed through the ruins.

The next moment, the giant hand flicked.

The group of Dou Huang experts, who had been flapping their Dou Qi wings in desperation, were sent hurtling through a spatial tunnel like helpless flies.

The ruins, once teeming with activity, were now eerily silent, leaving only Xiao Yan and Yao Ling behind.

"Impressive, very impressive." The Yin Yang Evil Saint's gaze swept over the two of them, his face lighting up with satisfaction.

"I used to think that anyone capable of becoming a seven star alchemist before the age of thirty would qualify to inherit my legacy. Who would have thought I'd encounter two such monstrous talents before my soul dissipates completely?"

His eyes lingered on the pair. A fifteen year old with mid tier seven star soul strength, and an eighteen year old at the high tier seven star level both were soul prodigies rarely seen, even during his time as a Saint.

"Is he really planning to hand over his legacy so easily?" Xiao Yan's eyes narrowed with suspicion.

He had always believed in preparing for the worst. The thought of a temperamental Dou Saint granting him treasures without a catch seemed implausible.

Outside the ruins, a crowd of powerful experts had gathered to await the return of their comrades. Those emerging from the ruins were often drenched in the strange, corrupting curse energy. If not swiftly dealt with, they would descend into madness.

Many were desperate to recover their treasures or sought help from allies upon emerging.

Given the number of Dou Huang and stronger experts gathered, the Black Wind Sect had set up a temporary reception area.

Suddenly, the serene entrance to the ruins was disrupted by violent spatial fluctuations.

Boom!

Nearly a hundred Dou Huang experts were forcibly expelled, their bodies scattered like insects across the sky. The spatial tunnel sealed shut immediately afterward.

"What happened?" The expressions of those waiting outside turned grim.

Among them, the most alarmed were Xiao Clan's Wen and Wu Elders, as well as the Medicine Clan's two elder women.

The absence of their young masters and mistress filled them with dread.

"This isn't good. What's going on?" Elder Wu's aura flared, his half saint level power sending a shockwave through the crowd.

Even the two Dou Zun level experts present paled under his pressure.

"If the young master is harmed, this entire ruin will be reduced to dust!" Elder Wu roared. He prepared to unleash his strength against the ruins but was stopped by Elder Wen.

"Calm yourself. Forcefully dismantling the ruins could trigger an explosion, putting the young master in greater danger."

Elder Wu's expression was frantic. "If anything happens to him, we'll both face the consequences!"

"We wait. Trust in him. The boy chosen by the clan's ancestral patriarch won't fall so easily," Elder Wen replied, his tone steadier.

Hearing the term "ancestral patriarch," the Medicine Clan elders exchanged uneasy glances.

In the Xiao Clan, the title "ancestral patriarch" could only refer to one person the legendary sovereign of the heavens.

Who else could it be?
