Chapter 39: Not Good! Has My Grand Plan Been Exposed?
Having obtained what he wanted—and conveniently crushed both Tang Sect and Shrek Academy in the process—Jiang Chen could finally leave the rest to the Federation.
After all, insignificant as they were, those two old relics weren't worth his continued attention.
Everything was in place. Now all that remained was to become a god.
He looked at the sphere of radiant gold hovering in his palm—the Immortal Spirit Qi. Worth every risk. No wonder he'd held back his level for so long, staying at Rank 19.
It had all been to personally feel the power of Immortal Spirit Qi.
After godhood, the foundation of power would no longer be soul power—it would become this divine energy itself.
He raised the Immortal Spirit Qi above his head.
From Level 19 to Level 20—
Begin! Breakthrough!
A purple soul ring burst forth behind him, followed by the shadow of the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger.
Immediately, a second purple ring ignited. The towering beast flared briefly before vanishing into him.
Second Soul Skill: Evil God Transformation!
With the Evil God's bloodline and now the infusion of divine essence, his full potential unfurled throughout his body.
Originally, Jiang Chen had planned for his second skill to be a transformation-type technique that amplified his stats proportionally—mirroring the classic builds of powerful martial clans.
The model came, naturally, from the Dai Family's White Tiger line, who had refined such a system over ten thousand years.
Their standard configuration was practically perfect:
First Soul Skill: White Tiger Body Barrier—an armor-type technique that increased defense by a percentage, still useful even into Title Douluo rank.Second Soul Skill: White Tiger Light Wave—a midrange attack ability that compensated for early limitations without hindering later growth.
People often said offensive skills in early levels were useless compared to percentage-based buffs—but that was nonsense.
How else were you supposed to fight early on? Punch things by hand?
Not everyone was a genius able to create original techniques. Creating one was like founding a martial art, not copying an anime move and calling it innovation.
Better to fill a low-level slot with something practical than leave it empty.
Jiang Chen's first skill already controlled elemental attributes, providing ample offensive power. He could weave countless combinations of flame, frost, or shadow.
So his second soul ring—the Evil God Transformation—became the perfect complement.
Like the White Tiger Vajra Transformation, it doubled his resistance to debuffs, as well as his strength, defense, and combat power, while granting flight with jet-black wings.
But this was no mere imitation—the Evil God bloodline awakened added special properties:
Mind Corrosion: All attacks, physical or elemental, could erode the target's psyche, amplifying greed, fear, rage, or madness.Spiritual Domination: Against mentally weaker foes, direct control was possible—driving them into insanity or self-destruction.Evil Sigil: Marking a target who violated "its rules," he could deliver judgment that doubled all inflicted damage.
This was no longer the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger's power.
It was a fragment of the Evil God himself. A qualitative leap forward.
His soul power surged further—past Rank 25, Rank 27, all the way to Rank 29.
"Better slow down," he murmured. "The second skill isn't fully refined yet, and I can't waste all this divine energy. One slip and I could blow myself up."
Now seated on an airship headed toward Eastsea City, he stretched leisurely. "First day of school and I'm already skipping class. Classic me."
He frowned slightly. "Still… feels like I forgot someone?"
Unable to think of who, he shrugged, leaned on the headrest, and closed his eyes for a nap.
…
At Eastsea Academy, the Director of Instruction, Long Hengxu, was nearly breaking his communicator.
The two prodigies assigned from the Spirit Transmission Tower—Jiang Chen and Huo Yun'er—were nowhere to be found. Even contacting the Tower directly gave no trace of their location.
Not even the local Tower Master of Eastsea City could be reached.
If not for April Fool's Day having already passed, he would have assumed this was some elaborate prank.
"Director! Bad news!" a teacher burst in. "Teacher Wu fled the academy!"
"What?"
Long Hengxu's face went stiff.
When disaster comes, it comes all at once.
"What are you standing around for? Go after him!"
That teacher—Wu Zhangkong—was no ordinary man. A six-ring Soul Emperor, a Two-Word Battle Armor Master, and formerly of Shrek Academy's elite faculty. His presence had drawn countless talented instructors—and female attention—to Eastsea.
A treasure of the school! He was supposed to teach Class One! How could they let him vanish?
Moments later, another teacher rushed in with a report. "Ah, apparently Tang Sect and Shrek Academy were destroyed."
"Oh. Then never mind."
Long Hengxu sighed deeply. Whatever one might say about Shrek's arrogance, no one could deny it was the greatest academy in the world.
Well, he had bigger problems anyway.
With Wu gone, who was going to teach Class One's lessons?
"Forget it. I'll handle them personally for the day."
Class One had thirty students. Everyone was present except for Jiang Chen and Huo Yun'er.
Across the rows, Gu Yue scanned the room. No Jiang Chen. Her brows lifted slightly.
What was he plotting this time?
She dismissed the thought quickly—her goal was still the Golden Dragon King's bloodline. Once she obtained it and regained the full power of the Dragon God, what would a Sea God amount to?
No one could stop her grand plan.
She approached Tang Wulin's seat with a sweet—but clearly practiced—smile.
"Excuse me," she said softly. "May I sit here?"
Tang Wulin frowned. He hadn't expected her to end up in his class—and to drag her strange obsession with his "teacher" here too.
He wanted nothing more than to tie her up with Blue Silver Grass right now.
But remembering his senior sister's warning from the night before—don't interact with anyone suspicious, especially women with ulterior motives—he forced himself to stay polite.
"Sorry," he said coldly. "Someone already sits here."
He'd saved this spot for Jiang Chen.
(Jiang Chen: "Danger sense… tingling?")
Gu Yue clenched her fists. Why did this human keep rejecting her?
Tang Wulin's icy tone cut again. "Whatever you're plotting, it won't work. Give up now. You'll get nothing from me—or my teacher."
Gu Yue froze.
What…?
He knows?
For a split second, panic flashed across her eyes. That was impossible—her concealment technique could fool even a god king. It was what had allowed her to survive in the Star Dou Forest for eons.
How could this boy possibly—?
An invisible thunderbolt of danger flashed through her chest.
Tang Wulin continued sharply, "You'll never use me to get to my teacher. Give up on those delusions."
Gu Yue: "?"
Her knuckles white, she had to resist the urge to strike him then and there.
Humans, she thought furiously—they all deserve destruction!
Every last one of them!
