Chapter 78 - Chapter 78 Evil Yu Xiaogang

Chapter 78 Evil Yu Xiaogang

Thunder rolled through the wooden walls of the inn, echoing in the ears of its guests. Outside, the wind howled violently.

Yu Xiaogang sat on the bed, holding a thick book in his hands. Beside him, an oil lamp flickered under the draft.

The inn was nothing more than a temporary shelter, built with simple wooden boards that offered little comfort—barely enough for basic lodging.

It did nothing to block the chilling wind.

Through cracks in the wooden planks, gusts blew continuously into the room, causing the wavering flame to dance erratically.

Yu Xiaogang frowned. Under such conditions, reading was impossible.

"Forget it. I'll rest early and head for Soto City at dawn," he sighed, closing the book and lying down on the creaky wooden bed.

After blowing out the lamp, Yu Xiaogang closed his eyes.

Fifteen minutes passed. Annoyed, he opened them again. The thunder outside was deafening, making it impossible to sleep.

The wind whistled through gaps in the walls with a sharp, shrill "squeak."

A sudden flash of lightning illuminated the room—followed by a deafening boom that made Yu Xiaogang's body jolt. He nearly fell off the bed.

That thunder… it had caught him off guard.

Pulling the blanket closer, Yu Xiaogang turned to glance at the window.

What he saw drained all color from his face.

Outside the window, a dark shadow swayed in the rain. The shadow had a pair of glowing crimson eyes that glimmered eerily in the lightning's flash, twisted and terrifying.

"Ah… what—what is that?!" he screamed, tumbling off the bed in terror.

He crawled backward until his back hit the door, his breathing erratic.

When he looked again at the window—nothing was there.

Was it… just my imagination?

Yu Xiaogang hesitated for a long moment, then cautiously approached the window.

It was pure darkness outside. Nothing.

"Maybe I really saw it wrong," he muttered. Still, he latched the window tightly.

He climbed back into bed, forcing himself to breathe calmly before closing his eyes again.

Time ticked by slowly, yet sleep never came.

When Yu Xiaogang opened his eyes again, he saw a shadowy figure before him—along with two blazing red pupils.

"Ahhh!" Yu Xiaogang screamed, leaping from his bed.

He tried to retreat—but found his body paralyzed.

The darkness that was Luo Ling loomed before him, his martial spirits fully fused. The Soul Threads he controlled had invaded Yu Xiaogang's own, corrupting them completely and seizing full control of his being.

A strange crimson light flickered in Luo Ling's eyes. He possessed countless ways to make Yu Xiaogang die in agony—but should he kill him that easily?

Darkness wrapped around Luo Ling's body, and his soul grew colder by the second.

He released his hold on Yu Xiaogang's soul threads. The next instant, another scream echoed through the room.

This time, Luo Ling expanded his Mind Domain. Terrifying purple light filled Yu Xiaogang's spirit, swallowing him in endless fear.

"What… what are you, Luo Sanpao!"

Yu Xiaogang roared in panic as a pig-like creature appeared in the room.

He tried commanding Luo Sanpao to attack—but the creature merely stood motionless.

"Thunderous fart! Shattering heavens and earth, Luo Sanpao!" he shouted again, soul rings glowing around him. Yet Luo Sanpao did not move an inch.

"You—!" Yu Xiaogang finally realized something was terribly wrong. Staring at the demonic figure before him, his voice trembled with raw fear.

Silence filled the room, broken only by thunder and the wailing wind.

"Do you want power?" The shadow's low, guttural voice suddenly echoed.

Yu Xiaogang froze, staring at the darkness.

Luo Ling's demonic red eyes glimmered as his Desire Spirit's power of suggestion intensified.

"Do you want to break through?"

"You've been stuck at level 29 for years. Do you want to be a useless failure forever?"

His words dripped with temptation and malice.

"You… you can make me stronger?" Yu Xiaogang stammered, standing shakily. His eyes began to tint faint red.

Luo Ling said nothing. A book materialized in the air before him, accompanied by several corpses—human corpses.

They were the bodies of bandits Luo Ling had slaughtered before arriving at the inn.

"Embrace slaughter. Break your limits. Climb to the pinnacle of the Douluo Continent," the demonic voice whispered.

Yu Xiaogang, entranced, reached out and took the floating book.

It was titled Blood Demon Ritual.

As his eyes scanned the pages, desire flared in them. He did not even realize that his soul had already begun to twist.

Luo Ling watched silently, surprise flickering in his eyes.

Yu Xiaogang began moving mechanically. He pulled out a dagger and stabbed one of the corpses on the ground. Then he tore off a strip of cloth, dipped it in blood, and carefully drew a strange, intricate sigil on the floor.

When it was done, he dragged the bodies to the sigil's corners before stepping into its center.

Yu Xiaogang released his soul power and chanted the incantation written in the Blood Demon Ritual.

As his low murmurs echoed, the sigil glowed crimson.

Gradually, the corpses dissolved into blood, turning into streams of red energy.

In those crimson lights, Luo Ling glimpsed the faint outlines of the dead—their souls!

Those spirits twisted and spun before vanishing into the sigil. The remaining red energy flowed into Yu Xiaogang's body.

"O Primordial God, please accept my offering."

A faint voice resonated in Luo Ling's mind.

His own soul power trembled. The level he had almost reached moments ago suddenly rose—his power surged beyond, breaking through to level 50.

Staring in shock at Yu Xiaogang standing in the sigil's center, Luo Ling had no idea what had just happened.

But he could feel it—his Desire Demon within him was pleased, exuding a strange, satisfied energy.

Shaking his head in confusion, he watched as the crimson light fully absorbed into Yu Xiaogang.

Luo Ling could clearly sense it—Yu Xiaogang's power had broken past level 29.

His appearance had changed as well. His skin turned pale, the tips of his hair faintly red, and his eyes shimmered with a faint scarlet hue.

When Yu Xiaogang opened his eyes again, his face glowed with excitement. He could feel it—the bottleneck that had trapped him for years was gone.

Lifting his gaze toward the demonic shadow, a mix of fear and yearning flickered in his eyes.

He knew very well what had caused his breakthrough—everything was because of the mysterious being standing before him.
