Chapter 75: The Strange Xiao Wu
"Luo Ling, what exactly are you doing?" Flender stared angrily at Dai Mubai's miserable state.
His right arm had been severed; for a battle-type spirit master, this was nearly a death sentence. Even if a healing soul master reattached it, his strength would be greatly diminished.
It could be said that Dai Mubai's future had been destroyed.
"Headmaster, I didn't start anything. He made the first move," Luo Ling said as he put away the black scythe.
Since Flender had arrived, there was no way he would allow a killing to happen before his eyes.
Luo Ling had no interest in a thankless fight with a Soul Saint anyway. Dai Mubai was already half-ruined.
"He insulted Rongrong first, then picked a fight after I disciplined him."
"Even so, you went too far! Do you have any idea what a severed arm means for a battle spirit master?" Flender clenched his fists.
But Luo Ling remained unmoved, looking down at Dai Mubai with undisguised contempt.
"The only reason he's still alive is because of you, Headmaster."
"You—" Flender nearly fainted from rage.
Seeing Luo Ling's indifference reminded him of the Titled Douluo he'd encountered at the store.
Luo Ling had the protection of a Titled Douluo, while Dai Mubai was merely a runaway prince. The difference in their standing was immeasurable.
"Headmaster, don't overthink it. Take him for treatment now; maybe there's still a chance to reattach it."
Flender could only glare helplessly, then hurriedly carried off the unconscious Dai Mubai, picking up the severed arm as he left.
Seeing this, Ma Hongjun and Oscar fled with hasty excuses, as if they'd just met the King of Hell.
Tang San glanced at Xiao Wu and, noticing her eyes fixed on Luo Ling, clenched his teeth and took his leave as well.
It wasn't time yet. Once his twin martial souls came into play, Xiao Wu would surely look at him differently.
He repeated the thought silently to himself.
His first martial soul was Blue Silver Grass, a commonly despised "trash" spirit. Even if it looked decent for now, it couldn't compare to Luo Ling's scythe.
If Luo Ling's tool-type martial soul was this strong, then what about his own Clear Sky Hammer?
It was renowned as the number one tool-type martial soul in the world.
Tang San's heart itched more and more; his frustration with Blue Silver Grass deepened.
Only when the others were gone did Luo Ling return to the three girls.
"Zhuqing, you've seen clearly now, haven't you? Dai Mubai is not someone you can rely on."
"I know you're worried about the Star Luo Empire, but you can discuss it with Rongrong. I doubt the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan would mind taking you in."
Luo Ling glanced at Ning Rongrong as he spoke, giving her a quick wink.
Ning Rongrong pouted. It felt suspiciously like she was being used to "support Luo Ling's women," but she couldn't say that out loud.
Keeping her temper under control, she still spoke gently, "Zhuqing, just dump that kind of man. Come to our Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan. Leave the Star Luo Empire's problems to me."
Zhu Zhuqing's eyes reddened slightly. Ever since awakening her martial soul at six, her life had been filled with pressure and hostility; even her parents and sister had grown cold.
Ning Rongrong and Luo Ling's attitudes warmed her like sunlight in winter.
"Don't cry. It's getting late. Let's head back to the dorm," Ning Rongrong said, taking Zhu Zhuqing's hand like a caring sister.
Before leaving, she secretly turned and made a face at Luo Ling.
When the two left, only Xiao Wu and Luo Ling remained.
"Have you thought about what I told you last time?" Luo Ling asked as he approached her.
"In the next few days, Oscar will reach level 30, and Zhao Wuji will take him to the Star Dou Forest. You'd better decide soon."
"You already knew we'd be going to the Star Dou Forest? Is that another thing from the future?" Xiao Wu asked calmly.
"Something like that. It's a good chance for you to slip away. After that, there's no guarantee," Luo Ling said, frowning slightly. Something about Xiao Wu felt off.
She no longer had ties to Tang San strong enough to bind her; there was no reason to stay.
If it was just about cultivation, a quiet village would be much safer.
Or was it… fate?
Luo Ling shook his head, unable to make sense of it.
Xiao Wu didn't reply. Luo Ling sighed.
"Forget it. Think it over. I'll be away for a while. Be careful when you go to the Star Dou Forest—if you're exposed, I won't be able to help you escape."
At the mention of him leaving, Xiao Wu's eyes flickered. "You're leaving?"
"Mm. There are things I need to handle. I'll be back around the time you return to Soto City," he said with a nod.
With that, he turned to go.
He wasn't sure if he imagined it, but in that instant, he thought he saw Xiao Wu let out a subtle sigh of relief.
Only after Luo Ling left did Xiao Wu's expression turn complicated.
She didn't know why choosing had become so difficult.
At first, she stayed by Tang San to confirm whether Luo Ling's words were true.
After six years, she was almost certain they were.
She followed Tang San to Soto City mainly because it was close to the Star Dou Forest. She had always planned to return there.
But she hadn't expected to meet Luo Ling here.
"I'm only staying to confirm what exactly my relationship with that guy is in the future!"
"Yes. That's all," she muttered to herself.
Luo Ling had no idea what she was thinking. If he did, he'd be speechless.
Who could have guessed that a lie and a hint of psychological suggestion from six years ago would lead Xiao Wu to make such a choice?
…
Walking through the darkness, Luo Ling spoke softly toward an empty corner.
"Uncle Ghost, I'm planning to leave Soto City for a while. Please keep an eye on Rongrong for me—and keep watch on that hundred-thousand-year soul beast."
"Your Highness, you're leaving?" a shadowy figure emerged from the darkness.
"Yes," Luo Ling nodded. "And there's one more thing."
"That boy named Tang San—his father is Tang Hao, the Haotian Douluo. Please inform my teacher."
"Tang San?" Ghost Douluo frowned. "But isn't his martial soul Blue Silver Grass?"
"He has twin martial souls. Do you really think Yu Xiaogang would take on a Blue Silver Grass 'waste' as a disciple?" Luo Ling said leisurely.
"Your Highness, do you want the Pope to act against Tang San?"
"No," Luo Ling shook his head. "Tang San is just a Soul Grandmaster—not worth the effort. Tell Teacher first. I plan to act against Tang Hao."
"Tang Hao…" Ghost Douluo's eyes flashed with a hint of wariness. The last Pope had died by Tang Hao's hand.
"When the time is right, I'll contact the two Titled Douluo of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan to help. The spirit bones on Tang Hao are valuable," Luo Ling said, eyes narrowing slightly.
