Chapter 18 - Chapter 17: Coastal Policy

Shaking his head, Kayal pushed his cup, clearly unhappy with this decision. Many things about him couldn't be seen by others; as secrets, it was truly difficult for these youngsters to see them.

"Then what about him?" Seeing Kayal smiling as he drank water, Grand Duke Andrei knew his precious son was angry. He chuckled, "Well, you know, this child is the strongest among our new generation of Knight Attendants. I really want you to mentor him and bring out the first Knight of Camelot, so your old man can also have some glory."

Kayal couldn't help but sigh inwardly. Looking at the fair-skinned person, he hadn't expected him to be the top Knight Attendant in the entire territory. Seeing the other party's slightly displeased expression, he knew that the person had no desire for any mentoring from him. As the top student, what mentoring did he need?

"Alright." Kayal shook his head. Anyway, he needed a trusted confidant, so he might as well properly train this seemingly thin but top-notch young fellow in the territory.

As for Gawain, Kayal hadn't even considered him. His father was a great lord, and having Gawain come over was, on one hand, a gesture of alliance between the two families, and on the other, for him to gain some prestige. It was well known that Kayal had performed exceptionally well before King Uther, and his future prospects were far more than just this.

Kayal shook his head. He had intended to inquire about his father's war progress, but instead, he ended up taking back two small burdens. How troublesome.

"Let's go." Kayal's calm tone gave no indication of whether he was angry or happy. He simply called out to the two and walked towards the door.

"Son, I heard you brought back a little Unicorn?" Grand Duke Andrei's sly smile made Kayal quickly become alert, while the other two youngsters' mouths widened in surprise, large enough to fit an egg.

"Yes, I found it myself when I went to Nottingham Forest. I told you Leyton was in the way." Kayal laughed as he spoke. Leyton had spent over ten years with him and was the closest person who knew him inside and out. How many decades does one have in a lifetime?

"Leyton, the burden is heavy this time." Grand Duke Andrei exhaled, feeling a bit disheartened. Unbeknownst to him, the second generation of Knights had already emerged; it was time for them old folks to retire.

"Are we going to defend Grimsby?" Kayal was somewhat relaxed when it came to serious matters: "Don't worry. Have the ordinary people along the coast retreat, and let them come up and kill them when they do."

"What about the livelihoods of the people? We can't just stop them from fishing, can we?" Grand Duke Andrei frowned, strategically it made sense, but economically it was a net loss.

"Perfect," Kayal smiled and shook his head: "Didn't we always want to reorganize the coastal fishing industry? This is just right. Divide the people of an area into a rhombus fort. After they have a certain defensive capability, use the strong mobility of the Knights to annihilate those Barbarians. Economically, production will also be centralized and distributed according to labor. This way, small towns will form, and your father's elders can also be sent down to be fort masters. Each fort will be allocated a certain number of Knight Attendants and will pay a certain amount of taxes annually, all stipulated. This way, not only will control over the surrounding areas be very stable, but it will also significantly improve the lives and safety of the people in a short period. Let's finalize this during the Gaul invasion."

Kayal's words made Grand Duke Andrei nod in contemplation, his fingers unconsciously tapping on the table, but Kayal knew that whenever this happened, his father had likely already made a decision.

Gawain and the other little boy widened their eyes at the sight, the scene was truly too shocking.

"Uncle." He called out to the stable manager, whose face was full of wrinkles: "Could you help me choose two ponies for these two attendants of mine?"

The old man was overjoyed by Kayal's address of "uncle." He glanced at the two youngsters and happily went to find the most suitable ponies for them. For an old man who had worked here for most of his life, finding two suitable horses for these two youngsters was incredibly easy.

Before the old man returned, Kayal simply blew a soft whistle, and as if in response, a group of tall horses gradually moved away from the railings that blocked them, because a king was about to arrive.

Snorting, seemingly very unaccustomed to living in a group with its kind, it directly made an explosive leap from a standstill, jumping over the railing, then shaking its head, it slowly walked over. Seeing the tall horses retreating one after another, the two children finally had a clear concept of what a Unicorn, what a Magical Beast, truly was.

The Demon King among beasts, that is a Magical Beast.

"Young Master, your horses." The old man came over, smiling, leading two exceptionally magnificent ponies. The people of the inner castle never called Kayal "Little Duke"; in their eyes, "Young Master" was the proper and heartfelt title.

"Yes, Uncle, thank you." Kayal nodded and directly mounted the Unicorn: "Let's go, I'm in a hurry, I need to go back."

Both of them had the goal of becoming Knights, so how could they not know how to ride a horse? Without any pretense or affectation, they mounted their horses. Kayal led, with the two behind him, and they headed straight towards the manor.
