"With the way you're going, someone else is going to get married to Elian," Phoenix said.
Jamie's head snapped up so quickly it almost looked painful. His chair scraped slightly against the floor as he shifted forward. "What?"
"Yeah," Phoenix continued casually, like he hadn't just dropped something catastrophic into the conversation. He leaned back in his chair, stretching his legs out in front of him, completely relaxed while the rest of us were slowly spiraling. "I was gone for years and both of you are still not official. That's crazy."
The words hung in the air.
Jamie blinked once. Then again. His expression slowly shifted from confusion to something much worse—panic.
"He's going to leave me?" Jamie asked, his voice small, almost fragile. A quiet sniff escaped him before he could stop it.
Phoenix didn't soften his tone even a little. "Yeah," he said bluntly. "If you really like him then date him. Make your intentions clear."
