After deciding to forge the Red Chain, Cyrus stopped hesitating.
Whether Axel truly wanted to rule over Sinnoh or was just provoking him on purpose, making the Red Chain was a step that couldn't be skipped.
"Saturn, help me turn on the switch in the corner of the wall."
"Since Mr. Axel seems a little impatient, let's begin the production of the Red Chain."
"Yes, sir!", Saturn obediently flipped the switch in the equipment room. Just like Cyrus thought, he also wanted to get rid of this walking disaster, Axel, as soon as possible.
Ever since they started working with him, Team Galactic hadn't had a single peaceful day.
Sure, their plans had gone relatively smoothly, the Galactic Bomb, the Lake Trio, everything had been completed exactly as planned.
But the problem was... the price was always paid by Team Galactic, while all the benefits went straight to Axel.
Who the hell could they even complain to about that?
Saturn suppressed his urge to punch someone and politely gestured to Axel.
"There's a sofa over there. Please have a seat for now. When the time comes, you can release the Lake Trio."
Saying that, he walked to the wall and pressed a red button.
Instantly, the whole room was bathed in a faint crimson glow. All the machinery in the research lab began to hum and move.
A wall panel slid open automatically, revealing piles of red ore that Axel had never seen before.
Mechanical arms lifted the ore and dropped it into a high-tech, futuristic-looking furnace.
Cyrus watched the monitor the entire time, his eyes growing increasingly feverish as numbers and parameters scrolled past the screen.
Back in the Hisui era, Team Galactic had already forged the Red Chain once, and it had saved Sinnoh at that time.
The formula had been preserved for countless years, and now it was finally his turn to recreate it.
After pressing the button that symbolized "start," Cyrus lifted both hands high and tilted his head toward the ceiling. His face was twisted with excitement.
"Ancestors, the Sinnoh of today has become filthy and corrupt, even the entire world has fallen into decay."
"With the return of Dialga and Palkia, this world once again has hope."
"Please, bless me, let me forge the Red Chain, and rebuild order within this tainted world!"
When Cyrus finished speaking, he suddenly bit into his own finger and drew an ancient rune in the air before the machine.
The blood symbols gathered and twisted midair, soon taking the form of two linked chains.
"Axel, now! Release the Lake Trio!"
"I will borrow their power to complete our ultimate glory!"
Axel blinked, not immediately moving to release the three Lake pokemons, instead falling silent.
This guy just used his own blood... would that somehow create a weird bond between him and the Red Chain?
If Cyrus actually ended up controlling the gods of time and space, that would be a huge problem.
"What are you doing?", Cyrus grew anxious when Axel still didn't move.
He'd spent forever gathering these resources,.not easy to obtain at all.
Though he had some backup materials in case the forging failed, wasting even a batch due to a dumb mistake was unacceptable.
"Sorry, I get a little dizzy when I see blood...", At Axel's words, both Cyrus and Saturn froze with question marks all over their faces.
'You get dizzy at the sight of blood? Seriously?'
'You didn't seem dizzy when detonating the Galactic Bomb!'
'Or when you were beating up Saturn!'
'Or when you nearly wiped out those people at Snowpoint Temple!'
'Come on!
Recalling everything Axel had done lately, Cyrus quickly realized something.
'This guy is brutal, vengeful, selfish, and ruthless, a born villain.'
Someone like him would never trust others easily.
"So... you're worried I'll take control of the Red Chain for myself?", Cyrus guessed, frowning unhappily at Axel.
"Not really..."
"If you don't believe me, come here, I'll show you how to use your—"
"My blood, right?", Axel instantly appeared beside Cyrus like he'd teleported, giving him no chance to object.
Without hesitation, he summoned Gholdengo and had it use its steel energy to slice open his fingertip.
Cyrus: "..."
'This is what you call dizzy at the sight of blood?''
First Axel had stolen all the glory, now he was being doubted for no reason, Cyrus honestly felt like flipping the whole lab table over.
Just then, Gholdengo handed over two gold coins.
Cyrus instinctively took them, a random thought flashing through his mind.
'This guy's annoying... but his Pokémon aren't bad.'
Anyway, no matter whose blood was used, the chain itself was just a tool. It wouldn't do anything beyond controlling the gods of time and space.
Once the Red Chain was finished, he could simply teleport away with Saturn.
Back to work.
The ancient rune reappeared in midair, taking the form of interlocking chains once again.
"Axel, quickly release the Lake Trio, we need to draw on their power now!"
"Alright!", This time Axel didn't hesitate. He tossed out the three Poké Balls he'd already prepared.
The moment the three Pokémon appeared, the red glow from the ore flared brighter, engulfing them completely.
A mysterious and vast power began to surge from within their bodies, drawn out by the ore, gradually merging into the shape of chains.
As the chains neared completion, Cyrus quietly stepped aside, giving up half of the red floor beneath his feet.
"Saturn, come help me. Let's aim to forge a perfect Red Chain."
Axel grinned broadly and swaggered over to stand right next to Cyrus, taking up the remaining half of the red floor.
"Why bother? I'm already here. What do you need Saturn for?"
"I didn't trust you before, but now I feel guilty, I'll definitely lend you a hand this time."
Cyrus turned toward Saturn, completely dumbfounded.
'Where the hell did you find this demon?'
"Brother Cyrus, come on! What are you staring at that ugly guy for?"
Cyrus: "..."
'This guy... first he called me Lord Cyrus, then brother, and now it's little brother?'
Cyrus took a deep breath and scowled, "Get away from me right now. Without Saturn's help, the Red Chain can't be forged at all."
"If you keep interrupting, I'm done with this!"
Axel's lips twitched. He was seriously considering whether to use psychic control on Cyrus.
Ever since Colress had mentioned it, he'd actually practiced a bit.
No matter what shameless trick he had to use, he couldn't let Cyrus take the Red Chain and leave. That was the bottom line.
Just as Axel was about to act, Gardevoir's voice suddenly echoed in his mind.
["Master~ I can track the teleportation destination of their device."]
Axel's eyes lit up instantly, and he stepped aside to let Saturn through.
"Ugly one, come here, didn't you hear Little Brother Cyrus?"
"If you mess around again, I'll clean up his house for him!"
Saturn clenched his molars so hard it hurt.
'Fine! You win! Have it your way!'
'Let's see if you're still so smug when we teleport away with the Red Chain.'
