While Jin went inside the tunnel and was currently facing horror, the outside of the tunnel was silent and still.
More than 30 Devil Hunters were stationed there. But even in such a huge gathering, no one could feel at ease. There was no conversation, no useless actions, everyone was focused on the dark tunnel, glancing at it so frequently that they should've just stared.
Minutes felt like hours.
Kishibe and Makima stood at the very front of the team. Makima's face was that of stoicism, Kishibe's face was just dead like a corpse.
He had a cigarette on the side of his lips that had burned halfway without him taking a single drag.
Makima stared into the tunnel, her eyes rarely blinking. Her hypnotic yellow eyes seemed to be able to penetrate the mountain and see exactly what was going on.
Kishibe took out his cigarette and threw it on the ground. He didn't feel like smoking even if he tried.
"I think he's dead," he said.
"He isn't," Makima simply replied. If they were in a dead voice competition, both would win.
"You have a lot of trust in your new pet," Kishibe said. "It's bold even for you to send a kid to do something like that,"
"Jin is not a kid,"
"His birth certificate disagrees," Kishibe said immediately.
"Well...." she said, a faint smile appearing on her face although it didn't reach her eyes. Her smiles rarely reached her eyes. "Jin is special,"
Kishibe blew a small huff, like a fraction of a chuckle.
"I'm surprised you can feel that way. Well, I'm surprised you can feel at all," he said.
The two continued in silence afterwards. Seconds ticked by, turning in minutes, but still, there was no sign of anything happening soon. The place was still dead silence.
But Kishibe saw in the corner of his eyes, Makima's smile growing until it could be seen at a glance.
"You're enjoying this," he said.
"I won't hide," she said, "I do,"
Then she turned suddenly, facing the rest of the Devil Hunters behind her. She looked towards them, her two eyes looking at everyone even though that should not be possible.
"It's coming," she said.
A drop of silence.
And then screams could be heard from the tunnel. The darkness in the tunnel expanded and was released like a shockwave, knocking away not the humans themselves but their shadow on the ground.
"We didn't expect this at all, no one did. The Accident Devil pairing up with the Mortality Devil is a match made in hell. They effectively enhance the concepts they embody, making them an absolute terror," Makima explained calmly while everyone else were panicking and freaking out.
"What the hell is this?!!" they screamed when they noticed ink beginning to appear on their skin. Those ink swirled around to form Kanji that everyone could read.
"How do you get these things off?" they asked. But they couldn't remove the ink no matter how they tried. It was more permanent than even a tattoo.
"Those are the death marks of the Mortality Devil. Usually, it would give you the exact probability of your death depending on the danger of your environment. But now, those marks appear more like funeral tablets, a death already set in stone," she continued explaining amid the chaos.
Some began peeling their skin with blades but the ink wouldn't disappear. They screamed in pain and fear. Makima's revelation only terrified them further. To make everything worse, the words continued and became clearer.

When some hunters saw their death date and time, they looked at their watch and saw that it was exactly on time, if not one more minute to go.
Chaos erupted among them. Silence was long gone.
The more fearful hunters took out their swords and cut their own arms where most ink was written. They screamed in pain, blood spilling everywhere on the ground but at least they will live.
At least that's what they thought.
"Takashi, Takashi!!" one Devil Hunter looked at his body and even took off his clothes. He saw no ink on his body.
"They're all gone!! The marks are gone!!" he said, crazed eyes and voice of joy.
Everyone else was hesitant to tell him that the marks were appearing on his face. The death mark was still there, and also the death time. It hadn't changed.
Slowly but surely, the cause of death began inscribing on their body.
"It's futile," Makima said, her calm voice echoing and loud due to the stark contrast to the chaos around her.

The 30 or so Devil Hunters slowly turned towards Makima. They knew she was the one who brought the Pig Devil to them.
They were going to scream, they were going to blame her. But they stopped because of the ink that was starting to appear on her face too.
Instead of shouting at her, they read her funeral tablet.

Everyone was too surprised at the name Control Devil and also at her age. They couldn't say anything but watch in deep, expanding horror.
"Hm?" Makima tilted her head, sensing something wrong. She turned towards Kishibe who was looking at her like a man who finally found proof.
His eyes were razor sharp on her and she looked at her reflection in his eyes.
Her eyes widened slightly at her cause of death and the death time.
"...."
"I see, how unfortunate," she said, her voice genuinely sad.
"Good thing I found someone else," but she didn't look sad for long.
She turned back to all the Devil Hunters, making sure each and every one who saw her had a death mark on their body.
And then she bowed slightly.
"Thank you for your service,"
As if on cue.
The mountain exploded.
*BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!*
"REEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!"
The cry of a furious pig robbed the initial explosion and turned terror into horror.
The Pig Devil's size was immense, he was as large as a building and the green mountain was quickly turned into brown dirt and ash.
A massive landslide followed as the whole tunnel collapsed.
Debris fell everywhere with the explosion. Rubble was thrown in all directions. But none of them were random.
These rubble seemed aimed. One after the other, they crashed into the Devil Hunters and literally crushed their body into a bloody pulp. Their screams were unheard, their last words unknown because all were drowned out by the pig who was responsible for their deaths.
Huge rocks slammed on the cars, the following explosions and fire killed the people nearby and those that got into the car for shield. The few who had time to retreat were swept away by a landslide from the shockwave.
None could survive, their death was set in stone. Their mortality was in the hands of someone else already, no, something else.
Miraculous accidents killed them all.
The Pig Devil continued its rampage. The enemy was the Accident Devil, a gigantic creature that was a combination of cars, trains, trucks and crushed flesh.
Then out of nowhere, the loud horns of a train could be heard.
A train materialized in the sky. Its long length made it look like a snake. It managed to drive forward in thin air and slammed into the Pig Devil.
The giant pig released another cry and his body was toppled by the train. He began falling backwards and right into the place where the Devil Hunters were stationed.
Cause of Death : The Pig Devil.
The mass of flesh slammed down on them, finally killing everyone who had those marks written on their body.
A huge shockwave exploded.
The E-17 highway was no more.
The Kan-Etsu expressway Tragedy, Japan 1997. Three hundred plus deaths and still counting.
