In an exquisite VIP room in a restaurant were two young men siting on opposite sides of a table. They were both in thier early 20's and had handsome figures. One of them was dressed casually with his long sleeves rolled up while the other was in suite. The guy in casual attaire took a sip of the drink in front of him and said
" Well Ethan, is been long "
Ethan sighed and said
" Yeah bro, very long and you've changed "
The man snorted
" Is been a decade, you seriously don't expect me to be still the naive boy you knew before. Just tell me the purpose of this meeting. I hope is not about reminiscing the past "
Ethan gave him a helpless face and said
" Actually I wanted to talk to you about a business deal. But before that, let me apologize to you again on behalf of what happened "
The man rolled his eyes and said mockingly
" As if that is ever going to change anything "
Ethan became frustrated and said in a high voice almost akin to yelling
" Get over it Tristin. I've apologize a thousand times but you are still not yielding. Is this really going to destroy our friendship "
Tristin face darkened as he let out a cold, deep laughter.
" Ha haa, Get over it. You want me to get over it "
His voice was filled with anger, coldness, pain and even regret
" It is easier said than done Evans. She was the only person who treated me like I mattered in that shit you call home. I was supposed to be her protecter, her shield. I was supposed to be always there for her but what did I do "
His eyes were red as he paused, trying to control the turmoil of emotions swirling inside him. He closed his eyes and said slowly
" You know what Ethan. I'm not angry at you. I'm angry at myself. For being so useless and worthless when my sister needed me the most. W... when Ruby needed me. Now I can't even find her. I don't know where she is or how she's being doing. "
Anger suddenly flashed in his eyes as he threw the glass in his hands away startling Ethan
" Is been 8 fucking years and I still don't know her whereabout. Is like she just vanished into thin air. How is she coping with this cruel world "
Ethan took in a deep breath as he prepared to voice out his thoughts. He's been considering this probability for a very long time and even though Tristin might not want to hear it, he still cleared his throat and said
" Bro is been so long and maybe she is..... "
Tristin immediately knew what he was about to say and roared furiously
" Ethan, dare you to spout any nonsense and you would regret it a thousand times "
But Ethan didn't mind him and continued
" Face it Tristin, she was barely 13 when she left the house. On top of that, she was badly disfigured. It would cost an arm and length to treat that. What do you think would happen to such a child on the streets. Tristin you can just imagine, even with all your influence and power you still have no news about her whereabout. I don't know how high her luck is but I wouldn't be surprised if she became fed up and did something outrageous "
He didn't say it straightforward but hid implications were clear, Ruby killed herself. Ethan didn't know what to say anymore. She had thought of that possibility before, in fact on countless occasions, but he didn't have the courage to admit it. How can his sweet little sister commit suicide. He was about to talk when his phone rung. After answer the call he said to Ethan
" Let's talk about this later. Tomorrow same venue but please don't mention her name tomorrow "
With that, he quickly went. Ethan sighed helplessly to himself. He begun drinking the remaining wine as his mind went back in time. Memories flashing through his mind.
Years ago, even before he knew he was part of the Evans family, he was friends with Tristin. Very close friends. They shared everything together and knew each other's darkest secret as long as pain. He knew very well that Tristin lived in a wealthy but loveless home with only a sister who cares about him. Then he was introduced as the rightful heir of the Evans family. At that time, he had felt conflicted emotions as he felt he was betraying his friend but Tristin assured him that he wasn't affected.
Anytime, his father showed him love especially with Tristin around, he felt uncomfortable but thankfully that didn't affect thier relationship. Then Tristin's mother got a divorce and left the house. Before leaving, Tristin had made him promise him to protect Ruby until they come for her.
But the promise became a burden to him. He knew all the sacrifices his mother had made for his sister and him. He was now caught between disobeying his mother and keeping his promise. After a while, he made up his mind, he stayed ignorant to all the bullies and only stepped in when it was becoming out of control.
But then after Ruby's misfortune, he realized his mother and sister were still after her. He became fed up and decided to keep his promise now. But then he realized, Ruby wasn't the weak girl anymore, she now stood for herself and fought back. He became pleased with it and also proud of her. He didn't realize when he begun seeing Ruby as his sister and not some damn promise he needs to keep.
Later he got to know Ruby have been seeing this police man. At first he had thought of the police man as a threat but after some time of close watching and monitoring, he knew the man wasn't bad.
Then that fateful day came, when he came home only to realize Ruby left the house, he almost lost it. After seeing her in school, he thought she must have been staying with the police man. Then all of a sudden, she stopped coming to school and he became worried trying to convince himself that the police man has admitted her into another school. But all his hope turned into fear when the police man came to thier house like a total lunatic and begun seeking for Ruby frantically. By then, he needn't be told that something was wrong.
He still remembered his last words as he was dragged out of the house
" If something happens to that kid, I promise you all, I would make you regret it a million-fold "
As he was lost in thoughts, he had a phone call. Absentmindedly he answered it and heard his mother's anxious voice
" Ethan please, is your sister, I don't know what to do again. She is destroying everything in the house. I think she is in trauma again. Help her "
Ethan frowned as he heard glass shattering through the phone and said
" I'm on my way, but call her psychiatrist first"
He didn't wait for his mother to answer and ended the call. His eyes gleamed dangerously as he thought
" I would never forgive that person "
They had already taken the man who assaulted his sister to the police custody but Christabel still insist that a certain lady had orchestrated all of this and wants justice.
Despite the fact that Christabel is quite unbearable to deal with a very demanding, she was still his sister, his twin on top of that.
He can't allow his sister to face such injustice. It has even caused her emotional trauma. He needs to quickly find that person and deal with her.
