Uncle Gary sat on his study table with serious face. He was on break but he still needed evidence. He scanned the papers on the table thoroughly looking for any hidden detail but he was back to square one. There were 6 pictures on his left side on the table with names under it. Louis Deville, Mary Deville, Xavier Deville, Kaylee Deville, Jasper Patterson and finally Trisha. Just Trisha, no surname. And the picture which had Trisha's name was blank with no picture. What connected these people was The Blue moon organization. There were all prominent members and he already knew that the Deville's raised that organization. It was somehow infuriating, knowing the mafias but not being able to catch them. Thier whereabout is unknown and they rarely appear in public but even of they do, he had no strong evidence against them.
On the right side of him were 2 blury pictures with names under it. Tiger, Eric Johnson and a blank picture with the name Don on it. The most annoying one was Eric, even though he was part of the mafia group, he still showed up to public and took part in several charity auction. It was quite satisfying that he died. As for Tiger and Don, thier identities were hidden. They'd managed to get a blurry picture of Tiger but it was useless. His face was not even captured but for Don, he was just like Trisha, mysterious was thier aura.These group of mafias were all powerful and law breakers.
But it could be easily dismissed as rumours if there is no evidence in the court. They were meticulous in thier work and made sure no evidence was left behind. And the other annoying one was Trisha. Her name rung amoung the mafias world. Many people shuddered at the mention of her name but her identity is still unknown. During missions where you almost caught her, you would only see some provocative words on the crime scene " Catch me of you can ". It fueled thier anger but he still pushed on. He wanted to know if his instincts are really true.
As he was lost in thoughts, he heard a knock on his door. He frowned instantly. He had no relatives and was all alone in his house. He didn't even have much friends, the few ones he had were his colleagues and they were also on duty. He quickly closed the files and packed the pictures in a certain box before he went to open the door. Once the door was opened, he was stunned to see a familiar yet unfamiliar figure. He asked cautiously with mixed emotions
" Who are you miss "
Ruby was a bit startled. She had prepared herself to face her Uncle Gary but seeing him undid her. His aged face but still handsome face, memories of the time they spent together flashed through her mind and she couldn't control her turmoil emotions again . She didn't even answer and just threw herself into his arms catching him off guard. Then she sobbed in his arms
" Uncle Gary, oh.... uncle....I miss you so much... so much "
Gary was dumbfounded, but before he could realize it, he subconsciously hugged her back. He was also shocked to realize that he was crying. He was about to quickly pull Ruby out of the embrace when he suddenly thought of something and said with trembling voice
" R..... Ruby is that you "
Ruby simply nodded in his arms still immersed in her sorrow. Gary froze for some few seconds and when he regained his composure, he hugged her tightly and couldn't help but she'd dome tears. He slightly pulled her out of the embrace and touched her face with love in his eyes
" Oh child, I never thought I would find you again. How have you been doing, where were you. I'm very sorry for what happened that day "
Before Ruby could say anything Gary pulled her back and hugged her again fearing she might vanish. Being a police man, he should at least be suspicious but at that moment, he was very sure that the person in his arms was Ruby.
.....
" I'm so sorry for that day Ruby, I feel really terrible. I'm know you must be blaming me for what happened that day. I'm really sorry for nor being there for you "
After he said that his mind drifted back to that day. He had been on an undercover mission. His phone was been confiscated for a week. After the mission, he had checked his phone and saw the message. He would forever remember how scared he felt. Expecially, After checking tge dates, he had run like a lunatic searching for Ruby. He searched the address she gave her but didn't find her, he went to her school and even caused a ruckus in her house, insulted Mr Evans on countless occasions but everything went in vain. He felt really guilty and blamed himself for what had happened. Had he been around, Ruby would have been safe with him. On countless occasions, he woke up in the middle of the night after having nightmares of Ruby covered on blood
and blaming him for been the cause. But he was surprised with Ruby's words that brought him back to reality
" Uncle you shouldn't blame yourself. I know you would never do that to me "
Uncle Gary became more sad at Ruby's unwavering trust in him and felt more guilty. He pulled her and hugged him again. There were several questions running through his mind but for now, he chose to savour this moment.

" Oh my, I'm so glad that you are safe. Tell me everything that happened to "
Gary said in curiosity. But his heart was filled with fear and uncertainty. He was curious and simultaneously scared about Ruby's answer. Oh God, Ruby thought. This was the last thing she ever wanted to talk about but she had to. She sighed as she helplessly recounted everything to Gary hoping he would not detest her for what she had become. This was a bold step she was taking, afterall, she was a criminal and Gary was a policeman, they were all on opposite sides. But she wasn't stupid, she left out some relevant information and only revealed to him that she was Trisha. Besides, she already had a backup plan incase her uncle betrays her which she earnestly hoped from the bottom of her heart that he wouldn't.
After recounting the events, she stared at him intently hoping not to see the emotions she was looking for. And Gary surprised her by sighing and saying
" That is alot to take in. "
Ruby was speechless, she was about to talk when she saw her uncle's face, it was suddenly filled with so many emotions, anger, guilt, sadness and different ones she couldn't comprehend. But one thing was sure, he didn't look surprised like he ought to be after receiving such an information. Before Ruby could react, Gary hugged her again and said with trembling voice
" I'm sorry child. I wasn't there for you. Forgive uncle "
Ruby stayed quite for a while and pulled herself out of the embrace after sometime. Then she went straight to the point
" Uncle, I'm here for something "
Gary stared at her in daze and asked
" What do you want "
Then Ruby answered
" Uncle I heard you are leading a case on the blue moon organization I just want you to stop "
Gary stared at her like a stranger and asked
" Do you realize what you are trying to say "
Ruby continued in exasperation
" I've already told you everything, you must know that I am Trisha, well that doesn't matter but, uncle people are aiming for your life. Your investigation is disturbing some people and am here to warn you to stop. Please listen to me. "
Gary suddenly laughed out loud, dumbfounding Ruby.
" Ruby you are asking me to choose cowardness over bravery. I am a police man and what would that make me. I choose to serve my land even if it means I die. All criminals have to pay for thier bad deeds"
Ruby was sad by his words. Maybe she had thought herself too highly thinking that her patriotic uncle would give in to her. But she couldn't back down, not now. She retorted with complicated emotions
" Then what about me, I am also a criminal right. Oh no, criminal seems weak, I am a killer, an assassin a threat to your land, would you sell me out then uncle. "
Then voice lowered as she said with sadness
" I know I'm asking for much but uncle, can't you just grant me this wish. I have no one, I lost them all, I don't want to loose you too. Please tell me, is asking for my uncle's life too much "
Uncle Gary suddenly lost control and said
" And is asking for your freedom too much. Oh damn Ruby, why do you think I'm so interested in this case. It is all because of you. "
Ruby stared at him blankly finding it difficult to process what he had said
" huh "
