A teacher freezes when he sees me."Oh, his mana detection is impressive — he noticed my hidden mana," I think and continue walking.
"You noticed my mana, wow," I say to the teacher as I walk past.
The teacher doesn't dare say anything and simply lets me go on. I enter the building and walk to the secretary.
"Hello, I would like to sign up for the entrance exam," I say."Okay, please provide all your information," the secretary says.
I nod and tell her all my details. The secretary writes everything down and gives me an authorization slip.
"The exam is tomorrow, so don't be late," the secretary says.
I nod and walk out of the school again. The teacher is still standing there frozen in place."I wonder what it looks like to him, seeing all of my mana," I think and simply keep going. I jump onto a roof and look around again.
"Oh right, I leveled up."I open my status, and a slightly transparent window appears with the values:
Level: 24 Strength: 13,200 Mana: 7,100Speed: 1,700 HP: 13,600 Defense: 900
I look at the status for a while, then close it and look around a bit more. I lie down on the slanted part of the roof. After 20 minutes, the sun begins to set. I stretch briefly and stand up.
"I feel something oppressive… what is that?" I think and jump off the roof. I land in a crowd of people and suddenly see a circle where people are gathered around a human who is beating a beastman while others shout: "Go on, more!"
"What's going on here?" I ask a man who is holding his child by the arm.
The man slowly turns to me while the human inside the circle continues to beat the beastman, even pulling out a knife and holding it to the beastman's ear.
"This is a show," the man says to me.
My eyes turn empty and emotionless. I pull out my dagger from my side, and the man looks at me.
"Oh, you want to do it? Then 20 gold," the slaver asks.
My eyes turn red-blue-purple and look like flames. The man casts a high-ranked protection spell while I begin laughing emotionlessly, gripping my dagger even tighter.
"Humans think that just because someone looks different — even if they act like a person — they can enslave and hurt them. But what happens if you turn the tables?" I say full of hatred and walk toward him slowly.
I turn my dagger so the tip points backward and the handle faces the man. I know that if I kill him, I will end up losing everything with the princess and the king — but it's worth it to me. I vanish in a blur and appear behind the man. Meanwhile, Luna passes by and sees me slit his throat and save the beastman. She sprints out of the carriage but is too late.
"Min, why did you do that?" she thinks sadly and returns to the carriage.I see it and stare thoughtfully into the sky while I hear guards shouting.
"What happened here?" the guards ask, hectic but professional.
I jump to the next rooftop and sit down while the king receives Luna's message about what I did.
"Father, Min… he…" Luna says hesitantly."What did he do?" the king asks carefully but louder than usual."…he killed someone to save a beastman," Luna says hesitantly.
After a few minutes, I go back down, not knowing that the king is already waiting at my house with guards.Should I have done that? Was it a mistake? Even if I regret nothing. I arrive at my house and see the guards and the king standing there. What are they doing here?
"Hello, Min," the king says, angry but calmer than I expected."You killed a human," the king says after taking a short breath.
I look down at the ground and think about what to say, because no matter what I say, it won't end well for me. I take a step forward and sit on the bench in front of my house.
"A beastman was being hurt — should I just stand there and celebrate it or what?" I say angrily and slightly shouting.
The king looks at his guards and gestures forward with his hand, and the guards grab me by both arms. I knew it would come to this, but I let them take me anyway. The guards suddenly let go, and I look at them confused as they step back.
"You will not be punished — except that you will never be involved with Luna again," the king says and walks away.
Humans really always think they're the kings of the world. But no — every living being deserves to exist, and yet everyone wants to hurt someone else. I walk inside with my head lowered and punch the wall, leaving a small hole.
"Shit, shit, shit," I say quickly over and over.
I walk into the entrance area, take off my daggers and my black cloak, then sit on the couch in the entrance hall and stare at the ceiling. If I do something like that again, it'll probably end in death. I get up, look toward the fridge, and notice there's nothing inside. I turn around and take my cloak, but not my dagger — I don't want to kill anyone right now. I could have solved it without killing beforehand, but every time I see something like that, I can't help it.
Am I doing the wrong thing, Lisa, or the right one? After all, you died to something like this too.I head outside, still thinking, and walk to a food stand. I look at everything and see apples and bread again.
"Hello, I'd like 3 apples and 1 bread," I say to the vendor.
The vendor nods and packs the apples and the bread with surprisingly fast movements — too fast for a simple vendor, because normally only assassins have those abilities, and assassins are hunted by the guards.Ah, it's probably just a coincidence. Tch, as if I really believe that.
"Who is your target?" I ask the vendor, who looks confused."What do you mean, sir?" the vendor asks.
I laugh quietly and look at him more closely. He has cast a disguise spell — a pretty good one — and only assassins normally need something like that. I snap my fingers, and he transforms into a young adult man with a black cloak and hood.
I'm about to grab my dagger and hand him over to the guards. I jump over the table where the bags with the bread and apples lie. I pull his arms behind his back and restrain him so he can't move. I strike the back of his neck with the side of my hand, knocking him unconscious.I climb over the table and look down the street where a guard is standing. I sprint toward him and appear right in front of him.
"Hello, this is a wanted assassin," I say to the guard.
The guard nods, and I hand over the assassin quickly, then disappear before the guard can offer a reward — because in the capital, rewards are given for anything related to safety.
I sit on a roof where no one can see me. Then I go back to the food stand, take what I wanted, and head home. I arrive, go inside, take off my cloak, and put the apples and bread in the kitchen. I take an apple to eat.I sit on a chair in the entrance area and eat the apple calmly while drawing something in the air with ice magic — an eye in icy blue colors. I finish eating the apple slowly.
Tomorrow is the exam for the magic school. I guess it won't be too hard, but I should still be well-rested. I stand up and walk forward to go up the stairs. I walk through a door labeled "Bathroom" and wash myself. After a few minutes, I come out again and go into the bedroom, open the window, and lie down in bed, immediately falling asleep.
At night, I hear a cry for help — but it's not from the city, it's from the forest beside it, which is also known as the Doom Forest. I sit up abruptly, run downstairs, grab my cloak and dagger from the chair in the dark entrance area, and rush outside.I stop in front of the house, jump onto a roof, and then over the wall leading toward the forest. I jump into the forest, look around carefully, and find a beastman girl lying heavily injured and unconscious on the ground — but no monster around.
What is this girl doing here? This place is dangerous.
I quickly run to her and heal her roughly, then pick her up and run back to the city while her body glows green from the healing magic. I stand in front of my house again and go inside with her. I lay her on the couch quickly and take off my cloak and dagger.
"Hey, wake up," I say hastily while using healing magic.
She slowly opens her eyes and looks around questioningly, and when she sees me, she jerks upright in fear and scoots back on the couch.I hold out my hand to her. She looks at it slowly and still fearfully, but takes it hesitantly. Her lips curl slightly into a small, uncertain smile, though she's still cautious.
"What happened, little one?" I ask her, smiling a bit.
She looks at the ceiling thoughtfully, then shrugs.
"I don't know, but I'm also tired," she says as she tries to stand up."No, you can stay here if you want," I say.
I point at the couch and look at her. I walk a bit away as she lies down and smiles faintly. I walk up the stairs, look at her one last time, then go into my bedroom and lie down again — and fall asleep immediately.
