They walked a few more steps in silence.
Then Coulson spoke again.
"Hmm. I've decided," he said. "I want that watch."
Ethan glanced at him and nodded.
"Alright," he said calmly. "What functions do you need?"
Coulson raised an eyebrow. "I thought you said it had ten."
"It does," Ethan replied. "My setup does."
He slowed his pace slightly as he explained.
"My watch is linked with my clothes, ring, boots, and belt. Together, they handle all ten functions automatically."
Coulson frowned. "And mine?"
"A standalone watch can only handle three functions safely," Ethan said. "Any more, and it becomes unstable—or dangerous."
Grant whistled softly. "Only three," he muttered. "Like that's a limitation."
Coulson thought for a moment. "So I have to choose."
"Yes," Ethan said. "Pick carefully."
Coulson stopped walking.
"Alright," he said slowly. "First—defense. That energy shield."
Ethan nodded. "Full-body shield. Adjustable strength."
"Second," Coulson continued, "environmental scan. I want eyes everywhere."
"Short to mid-range scan," Ethan said. "Life signs, electronics, movement."
Coulson hesitated, then said, "And third…"
He looked at Ethan.
"EMP. Localized. Non-lethal."
May nodded seeing Coulson choices.
Ethan studied Coulson for a second, then nodded.
"Those three work well together."
Grant leaned over. "No sword?"
Coulson shook his head. "If I need a sword, something has already gone very wrong."
Ethan allowed a small smile.
"Fair."
He added calmly, "Same rules apply. The watch is locked to you. If it's away from you for more than twenty-four hours, it self-destructs."
Coulson nodded. "Expected."
"And," Ethan continued, "it won't activate against me."
Coulson stopped again and looked at him.
"Seriously?"
"Yes," Ethan said simply. "Just in case."
Coulson stared at him for a moment—then laughed quietly.
"Honestly? I feel safer knowing that."
They resumed walking.
"By the way," Coulson said casually, "any chance you can make one more watch?"
May immediately replied, "I don't need it."
"I know," Coulson said with a nod. "It's for someone else."
May's expression stiffened. Everyone turned to look at Coulson.
"…Now I know," Ethan muttered.
Coulson glanced at him. "Know what?"
"Why you're still single," Ethan replied.
Coulson blinked, completely missing the point.
Seeing that, everyone else silently agreed—he really is hopeless.
Wasn't he flirting with woman in Agents of SHIELD? So why is he dense currently? Ethan thought.
Then another thought crossed his mind. Maybe dying once reset his brain to new setting.
or maybe while dying he thought, dying as a virgin is not so good.
He was fully convinced.
"Anyway," Ethan said aloud, shaking his head, "who is it for?"
"For the Director of SHIELD," Coulson replied.
Ethan hummed softly. "And how do I know he's on my side?"
Coulson met his eyes. "He is."
"And how can you be so sure?" Ethan asked, already knowing the answer—but also knowing they couldn't say it out loud.
"Just trust me," Coulson said.
Ethan shrugged. "Alright. So what functions does the watch need?"
Coulson thought for a moment. "I'll tell you tomorrow morning, after I speak with the Director."
They had reached the hotel by then.
"Then I'll see you tomorrow," Ethan said.
One by one, they said their goodbyes and headed to their rooms, the quiet hallway swallowing the tension along with them.
Coulson went back to his room.
He loosened his tie, sat down on the edge of the bed, and pulled out his phone. And then simply called the director.
It rang twice.
"Fury," a familiar voice answered.
"Director," Coulson said. "I need your opinion on something."
"Let me guess," Fury replied. "Ethan."
Coulson sighed. "That obvious?"
"Yes, May already given me report on Wakanda, Naturally if there is anything left its Ethan's matter" Fury said. "Go on."
Coulson explained everything—Ethan's watch, the limitations, the self-destruct rules, and the three functions he had already chosen for himself.
There was a short silence on the other end.
Finally, Fury spoke. "What else can his tech do?"
"We don't know, given his cautious nature I won't be surprised he still have something else on him," Coulson admitted. "As for other functions he showed, I already told you."
Fury let out a low breath. "Figures."
Coulson nodded, even though Fury couldn't see it. "About the watch. He asked what functions you'd want."
Another pause.
"The same as yours," Fury said. "Shield, scan, EMP. Those three are the smartest choices."
Coulson allowed himself a small smile. "That's exactly what I picked."
"It is indeed smart choice among others," Fury replied. "So, have him made same as yours for me too."
"Understood," Coulson said.
"Coulson," Fury added before hanging up, "don't push him."
"I won't," Coulson promised.
The call ended.
Coulson set the phone down, leaned back, and exhaled slowly mumbling " I was wrong he is more handful then Stark"
"But atleast he is not troublemaker as Stark." mumbling Coulson slept.
The next morning
Coulson woke up early, as usual. He showered, changed, and went through his routine before heading downstairs.
Ethan was already there.
He sat at a corner table with a cup of coffee, looking relaxed, while others were there too eating breakfast.
"Morning," Coulson said as he approached.
"Morning," Ethan replied. "You talk to the Director?"
"Yes," Coulson said, sitting down. "He agreed."
Ethan nodded once. "Same three functions?"
"Yes," Coulson confirmed. "Shield, scan, and EMP."
"Good choices," Ethan said. "They also make things easier for me."
Coulson nodded and ordered something to eat. Soon after, May joined them.
After breakfast, Coulson and May said their goodbyes to the others. Grant went with them, officially joining SHIELD from that point on.
As the Quinjet lifted off and disappeared into the sky, Sharon watched it go.
"Do you think it'll work?" she asked.
Ethan shrugged as he leaned back in his seat. "I don't know. But at least I can try."
"Let's go home too," he added.
Sharon nodded.
They headed back to the airport, where their private jet was waiting. Not long after, the plane lifted off, carrying them back to New York.
Time passed quickly.
A few days later, Ethan was back home in New York. Life returned to its usual rhythm—meetings, research, testing, and quiet nights spent improving techs no one else even knew existed.
Days went by and soon the month was over.
Then the familiar notification appeared.
Monthly Tech Gacha Available.
Ethan paused and looked at the system.
"Alright," Ethan said calmly. "Let's see what I get this time."
He activated the gacha.
The familiar gacha wheel appeared and began to spin. Lights flashed as options blurred together. A few seconds later, it slowed… then stopped.
Ethan rubbed his eyes.
"…Wow," he said softly. "I got—"
