Ethan glanced at Kim as they drove through the quiet streets. "What's your friend's address?"
Kim pulled out her phone and started typing a text to Mia.
Kim: Hey, I need to crash at your place tonight. On my way now. Is that okay?
The response came almost immediately.
Mia: Of course! What's wrong? Are you okay?
Kim hesitated, her fingers hovering over the keyboard.
Kim: I'll explain when I get there. Long story.
Mia: Kim, you're scaring me.
Kim: I'm fine. I promise. Just need somewhere to stay tonight.
Mia: Okay. I'll be here. Door's unlocked.
Kim sent Ethan the address and he plugged it into his GPS.
"Twenty minutes," he said.
They drove in silence for a while, the city lights blurring past the windows. Kim's adrenaline was starting to crash, leaving her exhausted and shaky.
"You sure you're okay?" Ethan asked, glancing at her.
"Yeah," Kim said, though her voice wavered slightly. "Just processing everything."
