Kim stared at the door, her heart pounding so hard she could hear it in her ears.
Ethan was on the other side. Right there. At her apartment.
She'd shared her location with him hours ago, in a moment of panic. She'd thought it was just a precaution. A safety measure in case something went wrong.
She hadn't expected him to actually show up.
Another knock. Harder this time.
"Kim, I'm not leaving until you open this door."
She looked at her phone again. At the threatening text. At her address displayed like a warning.
Then at the laptop, where the photos were still loaded, waiting to be sent.
She took a shaky breath and walked to the door.
Her hand hesitated on the lock.
What if whoever sent those texts was watching? What if opening this door put Ethan in danger too?
"Kim." His voice was softer now. "Please. I need to know you're okay."
She unlocked the door and opened it.
