"Who did this to you?" Thorne asked, not knowing where to touch her. Selena was helped to a chair by her fussing husbands, and Lyria handed her a glass of water, which Selena took and finished within seconds.
"I got fired," she said, before she started narrating what happened.
It turned out that ever since she arrived at the capital branch of the clothing store, she had been alienated by her colleagues, who considered her a country bumpkin— except for Cassandra, who had become her friend. At first, Selena thought they simply believed she wasn't competent, so she worked harder. For the past few months, she had been able to earn so many commissions that she was used as an example by their manager.
This did not stop the alienation; instead, it got worse. It reached the point where if she sat somewhere or used an object, they would say they could no longer use it, even going as far as acting as if she smelled or had a chronic disease.
