Chapter 38 - Mission complete

After finishing up, everyone stopped for a moment to catch a breather. In front of the boys sat a few bodies of the goblins trying to make an escape, seeing no chance of victory. They were welcomed to a wall of swords the instant the boys caught sight of them.

With everything having happened, it was clear normal people usually don't even make it this far.

Cleaning up, Chase took a few breaths before sighing. "Not bad." He checked his system for anything he missed. Focusing until a red screen appeared just in front of his face.

[quest completed]

Completely drive out the goblin forces from hayridge

[Reward]

+100 evolution points

'YES!! I need to start checking my system more. It seems as if I won't be able to see the quest pop up every time.'

He looked down to see his second bloodline and jasmine was still locked, uncaring mostly.

'When is jasmine gonna be unlocked, and what will she look like?'

[points to evolve]: (420/1000)

'Holy, I'll get there in no time!' As he read that smiling, he got a message at the top.

[SYSTEM NOTICE]

You have been in the tutorial stage, getting stronger very quickly, unfortunately that slows down, but you will have access to new features.

"You kidding me?" Chase said, scrunching his face. On the other hand it made sense, what kind of system only had around 5 sections?

[System update commencing]

Chase was not going to watch that, yet before he could close the screen Andrew tapped him on the shoulder. "Please pull that up when your alone" he whispered with his hand on the side of his mouth.

Chase just closed his eyes and looked down.

He'd definitely been talking out loud, people thought he was crazier than he already seemed.

"Alright, let's get a move on." Earl was personally done with this group, as he had a village to rebuild and trade routes to establish

Once again.

Getting back to the village, they saw a lot of people worrying, some cursing themselves for being terrible parents and letting their kids go out fighting goblins.

Once they appeared and everyone was confirmed to be okay, everyone burst into cheers. "We're safe? finally!" "Any longer and I would have moved on foot!"

The young boys looked a little traumatized, never happier to go back to their chores, what they had heard and seen made their brains hurt a little.

The main ones being showered with praise were Chase and the gang. Damian was definitely taking it the best "Yep, I was really the only guy who beat up two orcs! I don't know how I do it man."

Stopping his gloating, Donny pointed to the old man "we have to chat with him, but thank you all!" Chase was admiring all these people being able to lead normal lives again, when he too craned his neck. 'oh yeah, this was originally for money, I'm gonna need that too.'

Walking into his estate, Chase demanded up front: "Ten silvers each, not up for discussion." The old man was willing to throw their lives away, he had better have some serious coin.

He had been through enough with these guys to know they would be with him for the rest of his journey. Chase was hoping to make his pockets pay dearly.

'Is he an idiot' the old man asked in his mind, though his eyebrows were raised on the surface. That was the average fee for a quest like this if he was being up front. It was a good chunk of his money however, but he'd soon make it back anyway.

Reluctantly, he parted with it. Ten silvers were handed over to each of the men. "And don't forget to spread our group name" Andrew added on. "We have a group name?"

Donny asked. "We probably need to make one." Chase decided. "Who should pick it out?" Everyone got silent and he could practically feel the gaze of everyone but Earl burning holes through him.

"Okay then" Chase said laughing nervously. "How about….the torchbearers?" "It's awful, but I can't think of anything better at the moment. Besides we should head back."

"Yeah, torchbearers it is" Damian agreed. everyone kinda got the loose reference cause demons, fire, torches, it just doesn't click at all. But it was a start.

Earl was completely out of the know of where the name came from, but so long as they would buzz off, it didn't matter.

"Okay then, I'll make sure to leg everyone know that we owe everything to the "Torchbearers" but it's time for you to leave."
