The next few days were actually pretty casual. The torchbearers had done a few missions where the objectives were light and easy.
The casual beat up a bandit group, save a merchant, slay a monster. Each one they did in a day with minimal effort.
Jasmine had informed him that the person he reincarnated as might not be ordinary. Mentioning something about serving his family accidentally before switching topics.
they were currently on their fourth day since the incident. The name didn't sound as horrible, the crew was getting to know each other better, last night was the first time Chase had a drink in about 4 years.
It was certainly the first time ever in this life, as the only way he remembered was because Damian and Andrew wouldn't shut up about how much of a lightweight he was.
"Falling onto the floor first 3 drinks?" Andrew was shoulder to shoulder with Damian and they were both laughing like hyenas.
"Please shut up." Chase brought his hood even further over his face.
The worst part was seeing Donny, mr.nonchalant chuckling as well.
He made sure to not look in his direction at least.
The gang were currently on a quest to investigate a bunch of disappearances in
A village and report what it was. They just got off a caravan and were walking the dirt road to the village.
As Chase was thinking about what the causes could be, he suddenly grabbed Donny by the shoulder. "Stop laughing for a moment, I have a serious question."
"Sure, ask away" Donny replied, wiping the smile off of his face. "What are the major powers of this world? Who controls things?"
Putting his hands on his chin, Donny answered "the fact that you don't know some of these is certainly crazy, but I'll start from the top."
Taking a breath, he began. "As far as humanity is concerned, there are 4 kingdoms that govern everything we do, and they are named after their families. The Vista, Berolt, aegis and azure families respectively.
the vista family is one that has a knack for beast taming. They summon beasts, bend them to their will. Eventually, they form close bonds with monsters. It's a known secret that they have untold horrors dwelling underneath their very castle"
Chase: "They sound scary."
Donny: "Name anyone with power who isn't."
At that reply Chase simply shrugged his shoulders. Everyone had demons, and with power, you have less reasons to hide em.
With that, Donnie continued.
"The berolt family simply cannot be underestimated in pure martial prowess.
Whatever technique the average knight in any noble household knows, If its top tier, the berolt family had something to do with it.
From body strengthening, to sword techniques, the berolt families have a monopoly over it."
"I actually hope to be a knight for that family one day." Damian was listening slightly, once he heard "Berolt" he was all ears. "They would report you to the church for being ugly" Chase wasn't in the mood to converse with the man who had been making fun of him for the past 30 minutes.
"The Aegis family are the most powerful archers in the world excluding the elves.
They reign supreme over archery's teachings
It's said that anyone in the royal family could hit someone from a city away. From basic archery to everything else in the category, they own it."
'Noah would love to go there im guessing'
Chase began thinking of that man at the camp. 'I never did get my drink. That bastard better be alive'
Snapping back to reality, he continued listening.
"And in my opinion the most powerful, The Azure family. A family full of mages. not only are they born from a bloodline guaranteed to give birth to powerful mages, but they also have one of the largest mana ore mines in close proximity.
And boy is that flexible, surely you remember that freakish knight that bedazzled his armor and sword in mana stones?"
Chase got flashbacks to the camp where he was almost scared shitless same as everyone else. "Yeah, not pleasant."
"Each family member wears a robe with much more potent ones attached. Rings, swords, you name it, they own it."
"So these guys run everything" Chase was shocked. "Not quite, but if they say jump, even high ranking elites go the extra mile.
Just beneath them is the holy church."
Chase was not surprised by this. Anyone that can snatch you from your home and enlist you has to have rank. But them being this powerful was troubling for obvious reasons.
"when the Hero slayed the demon king, his teachings got passed down to what is now the holy church. They are here to ensure this never happens again. Anything even remotely demonic or heretical shows up, every kingdom has given them the permanent green light to exterminate it."
'A random hero created the holy church?'
Usually it would already have been established.
"They have holy water and prayers that actually boost the strength of their weapons.
Heavenly techniques, and an entire section of mini armies at their disposal no matter the territory."
Chase didn't need to hear about the influence this time, he was literally in a church when he reincarnated. Churches were in every village he had been in so far, he'd just never thought much of it until now. 'I'll keep this in mind, don't fuck with anyone listed'
Donny continued
"Beneath them, we have the nobles, houses who are mainly rich via wealth, strength, or sucking up to one of the royal families, it's a different one or multiple."
"And then law enforcement?" Chase asked.
"Yeah." They finished walking up to the village. It mainly looked fine, but since the disappearances, nobody left their homes.
"I'll tell you more after we figure out what's going on" with that, they set out to find the person who put out the quest.
