"Adrian?" Panic flashed across Summer's face. Tears dried in her eyes instantly. "He is awake. And…he is here. What are we supposed to do?"
Gideon's expression darkened at how anxious she was. "Why are you so nervous? He is not even your real boyfriend."
A sharp wave of jealousy constricted his chest. 'Has she started seeing him that way?'
"Tsk." She clicked her tongue impatiently. "You don't get it. To him, I'm his girlfriend. That's the reality he believes in. In his condition, any emotional shock could make things worse. That's why I'm worried."
But Gideon remained unconvinced. Her reasoning did nothing to calm the storm brewing inside him.
"Summer?"
The knock came again.
She grabbed Gideon's arm. "Go. Hide somewhere."
"Why should I?" he shot back. "I haven't done anything wrong. You are the woman I love. I have every right to be here with you."
Her head throbbed with stress. "Lower your voice," she whispered, grimacing.
