At the mention of Danica, Noel's expression dimmed instantly. He turned his face away, refusing to answer.
Gideon said nothing more. Noel's reaction spoke louder than words.
That silence stirred even deeper questions in Gideon's mind. Something wasn't right. A mother should comfort her child. But Noel clearly didn't want to hear about Danica at all.
"Your pretty aunt is still here," Gideon said after a moment. "She is making soup for you."
Noel's eyes brightened at once. Despite the fever and discomfort, a faint smile curved his lips. "She is here," he murmured.
Warmth spread through Gideon's chest as he watched that small, genuine smile. In that moment, he was certain that Noel wouldn't easily accept Summer as his mother. All Gideon needed to do was bring her back into their lives.
Once he found their son, their family would finally be whole.
