Gideon shifted his weight in his chair as he waited for Summer impatiently. The day before, he had received an invitation to an exclusive charity auction. He wanted to take her there, to buy her something she liked, something that might make her smile.
It wasn't an attempt to make up for everything he had done. He knew better than that. But it was a beginning, a small step toward bringing her back into his life.
His lips curved faintly as he imagined her reaction. 'It'll be a welcome change for her,' he thought, 'after everything she has been through these past few days.'
A knock broke his thoughts.
"Come in," Gideon said, straightening in his chair.
Matthew entered. "Sir, Landon Lloyd has approached the Hills," he reported. "He is proposing a collaboration. If it goes through, his company will survive."
The words wiped the faint smile from Gideon's face.
