Elena's POV
I made up my mind to be up early today for work so I don't incur the wrath of my "dearest husband". It's been two full weeks since my suspension and I have made sure to stay out of his way to avoid any problems.
A knock on my door pulled me from my thoughts. I was already dressed up for work and it was just seven a.m.
"Come in."
The door knob twisted open and tiny feet stepped into my room. An unfamiliar young girl around the age of ten with full, wavy red curls stared at me.
"H…hello, Ma'am." She whispered with a timid voice.
"Hi, little one. I've never seen you here before. What's your name?" I gave her a smile to ease her up
Her face lit up a little and she used her hair to cover her face. She's a shy one I'm guessing.
"My name is Mira."
"Is your parent in the estate?"
She nodded and cleared her throat. "Yes, Ma'am. My father is Watson the gardener, I'm on holiday and came over to see him."
"I'd love to get to know you, Mira. So what brings you here?"
"Ooooops, now I remember. Sir Ryan asked if you will be coming with him today to the office?"
"Yes, I am, if he doesn't mind it at all."
"I'd go tell him. Bye Miss….."
"Elena is just fine. You can call me Elena though we'd make good friends."
"See you later, El." She gave me a toothy grin making her look so adorable. She banged the door behind her.
I shook my head with a chuckle. Kids, always bringing a ray of sunshine anywhere they go.
I rushed and wore my flats, I stood up from the bed side I was sitting on and walked to the mirror.
I wouldn't change my style for anything, Ryan can suck it up. I was wearing a white tank top, black jacket and skinny jeans with flats. My hair was packed in a ponytail.
I neatly put on my mascara and lipstick then picked up my black bag and rushed outside.
As I guessed Ryan was already by the car with dark glasses on and a scowl on his face.
"Must you always be late? Even after the suspension, I see nothing has changed." He opened the door for me and George was in the driver's seat.
I refused to acknowledge Ryan and instead I greeted George politely. "Good morning, George. How is Suszie doing?"
A little smile appeared on his usually stoic face. "Good morning to you too, Miss Elena. Suzie is doing just fine, thank you for asking."
I have forgiven him about what had happened the first time we met. He was the one who had carried me out of Ryan's office.
Ryan got in the car and I felt his gaze on me but I made sure not to face him. "Who is Suzie?"
"My only daughter, Sir." Ryan looked surprised then just nodded. "We can head out now."
We started the drive and my mind drifted to what just happened. Ryan obviously doesn't know that George has a daughter.
"George?" I called out from behind the vehicle.
"Yes, Miss." He gave me a glance from the mirror and returned his gaze to the road.
"How long have you worked here?"
"Five years."
"Wow, that's a long time."
The car went silent and no one said anything throughout the ride. Once we got to the parking lot and he parked the car, I hopped out without waiting for anyone.
I'm grateful he didn't call out to me so I just kept walking. Now I have to go and face that wench that I had a fight with called Cara.
"God help me." I whispered to myself.
Just like the directions given to me on my first day I used the elevator and got to my floor. A couple of coworkers were on the elevator ride with me and I greeted them politely. Some replied, others didn't spare me a glance.
I soon got to my desk and placed my bag. The table is quite bare and I need to do a lot of things to make it presentable.
"Hi there." A happy voice called out to me, I raised my head and saw a brunette with a huge smile on her face.
"Hi." I didn't know what to think because no one has been this kind to me in this place.
"I'm Thelma, a junior accountant in this noble enterprise." She said with a dramatic bow.
I chuckled at her antics, it was a breath of fresh air.
"I'm Elena, an intern in this department."
She rolled her eyes with a smile. "You don't need to introduce yourself. Everyone knows you, Miss Redland."
"I see."
"Anyways, I am in need of a gossip partner and everyone here is so boring. In exchange for this partnership, I'll show you the ropes on how to make the best of your time here." She said with a huge smile as if it was even normal to want a gossip partner at one's workplace.
"How will you do that?"
"That's so easy. I'd tell you who is who, that is who you should stay away from and who you would like to be in their good books. Also the latest company gossip firsthand."
I chuckled and shook my head at this.
"Why me?"
"Well, no old worker wants to be friends so it's best I catch you whilst you're still new."
"I'd love to see where this partnership goes." I'm not stupid, I'm pretty sure she is the company's gossip and everyone is probably staying away from her to avoid any trouble.
I'd get so much information from her, but I must be extra careful to avoid any trouble.
"Sure thing. Now let me give you something juicy that concerns you."
"Sure, I'd love to hear it."
"Cara has resigned, she threw a tantrum that day you guys had a fight and was screaming about how things didn't end up how she wanted it to."
"Wow, I see." Was all I could muster, my shoulders slumped in relief though. I'm so glad I don't have to meet with her.
"There's a new guy in the office and he is starting off as a junior accountant, he's so hot." She blew herself with an invisible fan.
"That's something." I chuckled at her behaviour.
"Wait and you'd see." She then whispered, "speak of the devil."
I raised my head to see who it was and to my surprise it was my greatest nightmare, HIM!
