To be completely honest, the spontaneous visit was not at all as spontaneous as Paul had made it seem to be. He had been planning to come and visit Deacon as soon as he had learned that his best friend was now married to a woman from a family that had been enemies with the Roth family for the longest time.
Sure, from the calls that he had shared with Deacon, he had not been able to come up with anything that pointed to the marriage being anything but an honest one. But Paul had still been suspicious and so like any good friend, he had swallowed his doubts. Then at the first chance that he got, Paul had come to the city with the full intent of spying to make sure that his friend really was as happily married as he claimed.
