Chapter 153: Momousagi and Roy's Remote Showdown
Why did Gion come to the East Blue?
And how was he supposed to save Galette?
On the sea, after Gion finished cleaning up the battlefield and the warship began towing the pirate ship slowly toward the dock, Roy was already up on Mount Colubo, roasting and devouring a giant wild boar with Luffy and Sanji.
Whoosh.
Sea wind snapped the warship's flags. Galette, escorted by female soldiers, shot Gion a murderous glare as she was led into the ship's temporary prison.
Heh.
Gion glanced at the pirate, completely uninterested. She turned to look at the ship beside her, let out a soft chuckle, then headed back toward the captain's cabin.
Send a small team to Goa Kingdom. Investigate Roy's whereabouts.
Before the door shut, Gion gave her final instruction.
The day passed quickly. Gion went out for a while, then no one saw her come back.
The warships sat anchored off the shore, and the tide rose and fell in steady rhythm.
Inside the temporary prison on the warship.
Galette, her long pink hair curling slightly at the ends, sat in the cell with her back to the iron window, facing the bars.
Faint moonlight slipped through the gaps, barely lighting a small patch of the dark cell.
In that pale light, it was clear she had not been treated too harshly.
Her hands were cuffed behind her with seastone, and the Marines had not even bothered to remove her red gloves.
Her purple fur coat stayed on her shoulders, keeping the chill away.
Her tight dress clung to her figure as she sat sideways, knees together. Near her bright red heels, her pale ankles were locked in seastone chains.
Oh no… I have disappointed Mother.
Galette lowered her head, voice small.
Then, suddenly, a man with fiery red hair appeared on the other side of the bars, one hand gripping the railing.
What?
Galette froze, staring at him as if her eyes had betrayed her.
Could it be… him?
…
Not long ago, on Mount Colubo, at night.
Roy stood at the edge of the forest. From here, he could see all of Foosha Village, and beyond it, the sea near the dock. The view was wide, almost unfair.
Moonlight draped over the quiet village and the water like a thin veil, peaceful enough to make anyone want to forget the world.
Roy did not have that luxury.
He had already observed her. He had already felt her with Observation Haki. Even though Gion had left the warship once, she had never truly returned.
But…
In truth, both sides had discovered each other a long time ago.
Right now, Gion was likely hiding just outside Roy's Observation range, waiting for him to step into her net.
After all, the main port of Goa Kingdom was on the opposite side of Mount Colubo. If anything big happened in the East Blue, Gion would at most go to Goa Kingdom.
And if Garp suddenly needed Gion to check on FooshaLuffy, she would have gone straight to Windmill Village long ago.
That only meant one thing.
For reasons Roy did not yet know, Gion had come specifically for him.
Roy had not been at sea for very long, but he never expected to stay hidden forever anyway. He was too lazy for that.
It was actually normal for a Marine like Gion to come sniffing around for unknown reasons.
Besides, Roy could sense her arrival and notice her first.
Gion had awakened Observation Haki far earlier than him, and her range was very likely even greater.
So it was not hard to guess that Gion had already spotted Roy as well.
So while Roy looked like he was simply training Luffy and Sanji, he was really waiting for the right moment to pull Galette out.
At least that girl had ties to his sister.
And as for Gion…
She was currently sitting in a place Roy could not perceive, calmly eating Yatsuhashi sweets while waiting for a sentry report.
The one truly clueless fool was the prisoner.
Galette had no idea she was just a chess piece.
Roy had actually been arguing with Gion from afar for quite a while already.
What a pity, there is barely any cinnamon left.
On a beach somewhere.
The tide rose and fell. Gion stood draped in her cloak, savoring the last of her Yatsuhashi.
Yatsuhashi was a sweet made from thin baked dough, rice flour, sugar, and cinnamon powder.
It was also one of Gion's favorites.
"How is it?"
Gion turned to the female Marine beside her.
"No one has shown up yet."
The Marine shook her head.
"Then we keep waiting."
Gion sighed. She wanted to see just how strong this red haired Roy was, the one Tsuru kept praising like a priceless treasure.
What a mysterious man.
"Something is wrong, something happened over there!"
A Marine officer came running from the distance, face tense.
"What is it?"
Gion frowned.
"Pirates are attacking Goa Kingdom! They threatened to burn Gray Terminal, breach the high walls, and slaughter all the nobles!"
The officer blurted it out, breathless.
Gion did not care much about nobles being killed.
They were nobles of Goa Kingdom, and anyone who knew, knew.
But Gray Terminal was where countless people from the lowest rungs of society lived.
That was a different matter.
Gion had no choice but to intervene.
Even in the quiet night, they could already hear distant shouts and chaos from Goa Kingdom.
Gion stared into the darkness.
She had chosen her hiding spot carefully, a place that would not be sensed by Roy, and not easily noticed from the dock where the warships were moored.
"I have no choice but to step in."
Gion let out a breath, as if admitting defeat. It seemed she had lost this contest of patience, not to Roy, but to her own sense of justice.
"Let's go. Capture those pirates."
She waved, leading the female Marines toward Goa Kingdom.
Goa Kingdom was a miniature of this sea.
The nobles and royal family were terrifyingly skilled at cutting themselves off from the middle class, the poor, and the completely destitute.
Outside of Foosha Village, protected by Garp, the entire Goa Kingdom could be described in one word.
Dark.
Someone would absolutely love writing about this place, with all the criticizing, ahem, never mind.
A group of adorable mountain bandits lived on Mount Colubo.
Past Mount Colubo, trash began to appear in the forest.
The deeper you went into Goa Kingdom, the more garbage piled up. Around the kingdom sprawled a massive dump where the homeless, thugs, pirates, criminals, and the absolute bottom lived.
It was a melting pot of every kind of person, and in a way, they were all "trash" discarded by the upper class of Goa Kingdom.
A high outer wall separated them from the clean world.
Pass the gate inspections and you entered the outer town, where thugs gathered and the lower class lived.
Go farther in and you reached the city center. The central street was lined with middle class homes. Beyond that was High Town, where the aristocrats lived, patrolled by officers who chased away any dirty lower class people who wandered too close, protecting noble lords like precious glass.
Farther in…
The royal palace.
And it was said that some nobles and royals even proposed building another wall between High Town and the central street.
In truth, those nobles and royals were no better than pirates. They were all vicious to the bone.
When Gion arrived at Gray Terminal, she realized she had been tricked…
