"The safehouse is as secure as I can make it," Viktor replied. "No one's approached the building, no suspicious vehicles in the area, and I've got cameras on all approaches."
"Good. We'll be there in an hour."
They left James's building through the service entrance, avoiding the main lobby where cameras might record their departure. If the mastermind was watching James, they didn't want to make it easy to track where he went.
Back at the safe house, James set up his laptop and continued his research. Viktor joined him, the two of them comparing financial records and looking for additional patterns.
Marcus stepped outside onto the roof with Aria.
"James was scared," Aria said. "Genuinely terrified. That's not something you can fake easily."
"I know," Marcus replied. "Which means the mastermind is serious about the threat. Twenty people. James thinks he's one of them. "
His phone buzzed, Agent Clarke.
