"We got Lawrence," Aria said. "That's something."
"It's not enough," Marcus replied. "Not nearly enough."
"Then we'll keep going," Aria said. "Until we get them all."
They relocated to a safe house in Brooklyn, which Dmitri had maintained under a false identity. It was a converted warehouse with reinforced security and multiple exit routes.
By midnight, they were set up with new equipment, new protocols, and new plans.
Marcus stood on the roof, looking out over the city with Aria.
He pulled her close. "I'm tired of running. Tomorrow, after I testify, we go on offense and stop waiting for them to move and start forcing them to react to us."
"How?" Aria asked.
"I don't know yet," Marcus admitted. "But we'll figure it out."
Marcus showed the message to Aria.
They stood together on the roof, watching the city lights, knowing that somewhere out there, the mastermind was watching too.
The war had begun.
And only one side would survive it.
