"Fifty million dollars just disappeared."
Vera's voice was almost cheerful through the phone. "Now you know what Tuesday is going to feel like, except on Tuesday it won't be fifty million. It'll be everything."
The call ended.
Marcus stood on the sidewalk staring at his phone. Inside the van, his team waited for him to say something.
He said nothing.
He got back into the van without speaking.
Viktor pulled into traffic. No one asked questions. Aria watched Marcus from the corner of her eye.
They returned to the base in silence.
Marcus's phone rang. James Morrison.
He answered.
"Where the hell have you been?" James asked. "I've been trying to reach you for hours."
"Something bad happened," Marcus said.
James was quiet for a moment. "How bad?"
"Fifty million."
"Tonight?"
"Yes."
"We need to talk," James said. "Not over the phone. In person. Come to my office, not yours. I'll give you thirty minutes."
"I'll be there," Marcus said.
The call ended.
