"So, you can't obtain the CCTV recording?" Jane's voice echoed through my phone speaker.
I spun lazily in my office chair, clicking my tongue in irritation.
"Yes. They wouldn't budge, even when I tried to bribe them."
"Thankfully," she replied, "because it would only create another problem for you later if the police started investigating."
I leaned my elbow against the armrest and massaged my temple as the migraine began to crawl in.
"Then there's no other way except settling with the victim. Compensation. Convincing them not to press charges," Jane explained seriously, like I didn't already know that was the last card on the table.
I laughed bitterly. "Jane… this is—"
