Chapter 337 - Pamela Isley

In the process of searching, Thea inadvertently discovered a woman. The Eye of Horus's far-sight ability could see countless people and countless events; Thea originally didn't pay attention, but when her gaze swept over this woman, she instantly noticed something different about her.

Since the matter with Tommy wasn't urgent anyway, Thea's curiosity was piqued. She flew to the woman, who was two streets away, and scrutinized her carefully.

The woman appeared to be two or three years older than Thea. She had red hair, wore a green T-shirt and white canvas shoes. Judging by her attire, her family background wasn't well-off.

"Hey, can you hear me?" Thea called out twice next to the redhead, discovering that something was very wrong with her. She stumbled as she walked, looking drunk at first glance, but Thea's X-ray vision revealed that the genetic chains inside the woman's body were collapsing at high speed.

Another victim of human experimentation? Having just sent Roy Harper away a few days ago, Thea couldn't help but think this. The only difference was that she was certain Roy was a beneficiary, whereas the woman before her had clearly encountered a botched experiment and become a victim.

The other party's body was teeming with vitality, but this energy was so violent that it far exceeded the limits of what her genes could withstand.

Can I treat this injury? If it were an ordinary gunshot or knife wound, Thea might turn a blind eye even if the person died right in front of her. But this person was peculiar; she was clearly about to die, yet her body was being replenished with massive amounts of life force. This made Thea feel the thrill of the hunt.

Although she had some guesses in her heart, Thea still took out the woman's ID. She looked at the driver's license: "Pamela Isley."

Sure enough, it's the famous Poison Ivy.

This was a female college student who loved plants, a graduate of the elite-filled Gotham University. Optimistic and kind, she was used as a test subject and injected with plant toxins. In the original lore, she survived a great disaster, her blood turning into chlorophyll, gaining the ability to control plants and secrete pheromones to control others.

But... Thea scrutinized the internal condition of her body carefully. She was currently very far from "surviving a disaster." Without external intervention, she was dead for sure!

Having experienced many similar events, Thea had developed some immunity to the concept of fate. Perhaps her own existence was the only explanation for why Pamela would "survive the disaster" this time.

Poison Ivy had excellent abilities and was stunningly beautiful; she would make an excellent subordinate, worthy of Thea personally taking action. Thea happened to be struggling with how to explain the God Blood to Tommy, so she decided to save this person first.

Finding an empty house, Thea supported her with psychic power and kicked the door open.

After a closer examination, Thea frowned slightly. The cause of the woman's near-death state was that the plant vitality inside her was overly rampant. The intake of nutrients per unit of time was too high, and the body couldn't absorb or convert it, leading to an uncontrolled buildup. But the buildup had a limit. Pamela's body was now at a critical point. Not much longer—in another minute—her body would explode from having too much energy.

Thea took out the Demon Sword and tested it, but the results were poor. The opponent's energy wasn't magic or divine power, just vigorous life force; the Demon Sword had no effect on it.

She lowered her head and ran through all the spells she knew, finding none were applicable. Injecting Light-attribute healing magic would absolutely be adding oil to the fire; Pamela wouldn't have to wait a minute—she'd be blown to smithereens in three seconds.

What to do? Thea stroked her chin, truly stumped. Should I use Dark-attribute magic to neutralize the vitality of the plant toxins? That would take too much effort.

"Perhaps this will work..." Thea pulled a small vial from her spatial ring. This was blood extracted from Solomon Grundy's heart by the Court of Owls back then. The blood contained a highly corrosive property. Because it differed too much from Thea's power system, she had kept it but never used it.

She cut a slit on Pamela's arm and used psychic power to wrap a drop of the grey blood, guiding it into the vein.

Suddenly encountering a foreign enemy, the energy inside Pamela began to counterattack madly, attempting to expel the grey blood from the body.

But the grey blood was quite extraordinary. Clashing with the massive amount of green life energy, it didn't lose ground in the slightest.

However, there was simply too much green life energy. As the saying goes, a fine tiger is no match for a pack of wolves. The grey blood eventually exhausted its energy and dissipated like gas.

"It's effective..." One-third of the accumulated energy in Pamela's body had been consumed.

Thea then dripped the remaining two drops in one by one.

...

Half an hour passed.

"Who are you?" Her energy had been temporarily depleted. Although her body was still generating new energy endlessly, Pamela had regained her sanity. Seeing a stranger standing before her, despite being scared to death, she was powerless and could only ask intermittently.

"I'm the one who saved you. You remember your previous experience, right? Without me, you'd be dead!" Thea wasn't bragging. Although there weren't many healers in this world, one could always find a few. But at this particular point in time, Thea was arguably the only one who could treat her symptoms.

"I remember... I want revenge!" Pamela said through gritted teeth.

"Good. Keep that attitude. I don't know if you can understand my words, but I'll only say it once. Your body has been completely remodeled by the toxins. I've artificially suppressed your time of death, but there isn't much time. You need a comprehensive modification of your body to ensure you won't burst apart from the toxins' energy."

Thea tried to use concise language to explain her current predicament.

"My body?" Pamela struggled to sit up, looking at her two green arms. The cuts Thea had made on her arms were still there, but what flowed out wasn't blood, but a green, oily substance.

"Chlorophyll? Where is my blood? I've turned into a monster..." Pamela covered her mouth, wanting to cry, but not a single tear came out.

"My tear ducts are gone too... Am I still human?"

Facing her question, Thea thought seriously. "I don't know much about biology, but from a biological perspective, you are now a walking plant. However, judging from a philosophical perspective, if you still identify with the concept of being human, then naturally, you are still human."

Thea's first half of the sentence made Pamela's face look incredibly ugly, but the second half cheered her up considerably.

"Why save me?" Pamela asked in a low voice.

"I've taken a fancy to your abilities." Thea answered frankly. This actually made Pamela feel much better. American society didn't advocate selfless help, and Gotham's motto was that useless people only deserved to lie in the stinking ditch. Although Pamela was kind, she wasn't stupid. Hearing that her abilities were valued by the other party, she secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

"How will this so-called modification be carried out? Will my form change drastically?"

Thea took out a Replica Yellow Ring. "The process of modification varies from person to person. During the modification, it will read your true thoughts and perform targeted enhancements. If you are desperate to return to human form, perhaps my ring is your only choice."
