Chapter 37 - Chapter 36: Butterfly's Courtship Dance

"So that's how it is. Is it possible that Giovanni also traveled from another world, or perhaps someone with advanced technology is impersonating Boss Giovanni?" Alex Carter pondered, stroking his chin.

"I'm not entirely clear about that, but his power and the power of the forces behind him should not be underestimated."

"Also, you mentioned that Team Rocket is currently managed by Boss Giovanni. What about your father? Logically, your father should be managing Team Rocket, and you've hidden your Team Rocket identity. What exactly happened?" Miyamoto asked, perplexed.

"I don't know either. My father has always hidden his identity, living in Pallet Town. He only began to act after I started my journey, but he never tells me his plans or goals," Alex said, his mouth twitching.

"I really don't know if he's my real father. If he told me, I could at least help him. He doesn't say anything," Alex sighed.

"He probably doesn't want to implicate you. Otherwise, with his abilities, he wouldn't let you live anonymously. But since that's the case, you shouldn't reveal yourself too soon."

"Then what's the story behind the legend of this place?" Alex asked.

"I encountered Gastly by chance. My resentment lingered, so I asked that Gastly to help create such a legend, with the goal that one day the truth could be discovered. I apologize if I disturbed your companions," the ghost girl said with a smile.

"That makes sense. Otherwise, if you were from two thousand years ago and knew my parents, that would be too outlandish and bizarre," Alex grumbled helplessly... As Alex walked with Ash and the others, he thought, his mindset inexplicably fluctuating.

"Ah, forget it. I shouldn't think about it anymore. I'll deal with future matters in the future."

"Oh, right, System, do you have a task panel for me to look at? I could also find some tasks to do and earn some points," Alex said to the System in his mind.

"The System currently only has one task: you must become the strongest Villain in this world. Besides that, there is nothing else for now, and no task panel as you mentioned. However, if there are hidden tasks, I will automatically remind you," the System's cold, mechanical voice slowly rang out.

"Then help me check. I remember that for Haunter to evolve into Gengar, it needs to be traded. Do you have any items that can help my Haunter evolve into Gengar without needing to be traded? After all, I don't want to trade my Haunter to someone else," Alex said with disdain.

"The System automatically recommends the 'Super Evolution Device' for all Pokémon that require communication evolution. It allows for independent evolution without the need for communication and costs 200,000 points."

"No way? 200,000 is so much? Why don't you just rob for points? This System Mall is a real rip-off," Alex complained.

"Then I'll wait until I have enough points later. Anyway, Haunter still has a ways to go before evolving, so he can improve his strength first. Then he can evolve."

"As for me now... I'll just follow Ash and the others. Ash is the Child of the Plane in Pokémon, the person with the strongest aura in the entire world, and his luck won't be bad. Although he's unreliable sometimes, he's been the protagonist of so many seasons of anime. Being around him, I might even pick up a lot of benefits."

"Even if I have to be a bad guy, the bond with Pokémon cannot be broken, otherwise, I'd just be a paper tiger. Following Ash during this time can also help me train myself and earn Gym badges with him. This way, if I gain his trust later, I can also get his Helping Hand against my potential enemies, and that strange Boss Giovanni that Miyamoto's mother mentioned."

At this moment, Alex and Ash's group had arrived at a cliff.

"Wow, how scary! The sheer drop is terrifying. This deep valley looks like it must be several hundred meters high, at least," Ash said, looking down from the edge of the cliff.

"Falling from this height would definitely be fatal, wouldn't it?" Alex glanced at the cliff and stepped back.

"Yes, after following the path along this sheer cliff, we'll reach Saffron City," Brock said, looking at the map and nodding.

"You are the Saffron City Gym we're going to, good..."

"Huh? What's flying in the sky over there? Are they all Butterfree?" Alex looked up at the large cluster of tiny dots dancing in the sky.

"So many!" Misty exclaimed.

"This is because the Butterfree's mating season has arrived!" Brock said, looking at the Butterfree.

"Mating?" Misty asked in surprise.

"That's right. When mating season arrives, Butterfree find partners and then cross the sea to distant lands to lay their eggs. This is how they maintain the size of their species."

"They have to cross such a vast ocean?" Alex also asked in surprise.

"Exactly! Amazing, isn't it?" Brock said with a smile.

"What about your Butterfree, Ash?" Alex turned to Ash.

"If they don't cross the sea, they won't be able to have offspring, Ash. You need to understand that," Brock said seriously.

"Oh no," Ash said, looking at his Poké Ball.

"Hey, there's someone renting out balloons up ahead! Should we go rent one too?" Misty pointed to the hot air balloon rental station ahead.

"As you can see, during this season, many people use balloons. But most of them are here for sightseeing. Flying in a hot air balloon and looking around in the sky is also a very romantic thing to do. Alright, let's go!" Brock pulled the switch for the hot air balloon.

"Wow, what a magnificent view!" Alex exclaimed, looking at the vast sea before him.

"Look, look! We can see the Butterfree! How cute, how beautiful," Misty said, looking at the flocks of Butterfree flying in formation.

"Look! There are so many couples too, it's really wonderful! Their eyes have all turned into heart shapes," Alex, who had never seen such a scene, was also drawn in.

"Ash, that's enough," Brock said to Ash.

"Alright, go Butterfree!" Ash said, releasing his Butterfree and letting him fly into the Butterfree flock.

"Go find a good partner!"

"Butterfree, you can do it!" Misty cheered.

Butterfree flew back and forth within the flock, searching for a partner, but didn't find one he liked. He danced and weaved through the flock without stopping.

"Huh? How can this be?" Ash asked.

"Could it be that there isn't a type of Butterfree that your Butterfree likes, Ash?" Alex asked, puzzled.

"Huh? Are there types? I think all Butterfree look pretty much the same," Misty also looked confused.

"For example, some fly very gracefully, or have a unique appearance. Those are different," Brock said repeatedly.

"Ah? There are so many balloons!" Misty turned around and saw countless hot air balloons rising, accompanied by countless flying Butterfree.

"Those are all Butterfree Trainers. Every time this season comes around, they ride hot air balloons to release their Butterfree."

"I see."

"Alright, go find the partner you like, hahaha." A beautiful girl released her Butterfree and said with a smile.

When Brock saw this, his face suddenly turned bright red, and he became completely infatuated.

"I can't stand it, he's at it again," Misty said with a helpless expression.

"Uh, is Brock always like this?" Alex said, his mouth twitching. He remembered hearing in the anime that Brock would fall for every pretty girl he saw, and he used to think it was an exaggeration. Now it seemed to be true.

At that moment, Ash's Butterfree flew back, calling out to Ash helplessly.

"Listen, Butterfree, go find... go find that Butterfree that girl just released, it's her, it's her, choose her! Go quickly!" Brock said anxiously, pointing to one of the flying Butterfree.

"Beep beep?" Butterfree tilted his head, looking confused.

"If you make up with her Butterfree, the Trainers can... Oh no, no, the related people can improve their relationship! Go quickly, choose her!" Brock said, gripping the railing anxiously.

"Thud!" With a loud bang, Brock was knocked down.

"Love is a matter for the individuals involved!" Misty said angrily, clenching her fist.

"Anyway, Butterfree, if you want to have offspring, you absolutely must find a mate," Ash said gently to Butterfree.

Watching Brock get knocked down by Misty, Alex couldn't help but wipe a cold sweat from his brow.

"Didn't they say Misty was a beautiful and gentle Water-type Pokémon Trainer? But now she doesn't seem quite like that."

"Alright, go quickly, Butterfree, be sure to find the one you like!" Misty said.

Butterfree nodded, then flew back into the flock to search for his mate.

"Go, Butterfree, your destined partner is definitely waiting for you somewhere," Alex said, watching Butterfree's departing figure.

Butterfree shook his head left and right, searching for his beloved. Suddenly, upon seeing a completely pink Butterfree, Ash's Butterfree's eyes turned into heart shapes, and he flew towards the pink Butterfree.

"Looks like he found the Butterfree he likes!" Misty said, cupping her face.

"Yes, he seems to have fallen in love at first sight with that pink Butterfree," Alex said, holding a monocular.

Ash's Butterfree flew in circles around the pink Butterfree, chirping "beep beep."

"What is he doing?" Ash asked, puzzled.

"He's probably trying to attract the female Butterfree's attention, or perhaps trying to please her?" Alex said, stroking his chin.

"That's right, that's the Butterfree's unique courtship dance," Brock said, watching the flying Butterfree.

"Huh? Courtship?"

"Yes, that's how Butterfree use their bodies to express their affection for each other!" Brock said.

"It's truly so romantic!" Misty said, looking smitten.

"If the female Butterfree accepts, she will perform a responding dance!" Brock said, pulling the hot air balloon's control lines.

But apparently, the pink Butterfree didn't respond to Ash's Butterfree. Instead, she turned her head away and flew upwards, moving away from Ash's Butterfree.

Ash's Butterfree, looking embarrassed, chased after her, still performing his courtship dance.

"Slap." The pink Butterfree suddenly slapped Ash's Butterfree with her wing and flew away.

Alex and the other three were all shocked; such a thing could happen.

"No, it seems he was rejected," Brock said regretfully.

"How could this happen!" Misty said, displeased.

At this moment, Ash's Butterfree suddenly flew crying into the jungle below.

"He seems to have taken quite a hit," Alex said, watching Butterfree, who didn't look back no matter how much Ash called out.

Having no choice, Alex and the others could only descend and search for Ash's Butterfree.

"Hey~ Butterfree~ Where are you!"

"Butterfree!"

"Pikachu!"

As they walked, Ash suddenly saw a pair of Butterfree wings flapping behind a tree ahead.

"Huh? Butterfree!" Alex and the others rushed over.

As soon as they got there, they saw the dejected Butterfree weakly flapping his wings, looking utterly forlorn.
