While Luffy and Rob Lucci were dueling in the massive chamber on the path toward the Gate of Justice, Lucci sliced open one side of the building with Storm Leg, allowing a torrent of seawater to rush into the underground passage, intending to drown the Straw Hats who were racing toward the Gate.
Fortunately, everyone was rescued by Kokoro—because Kokoro was actually a mermaid.
She removed her coat, grabbed everyone, and used her incredible swimming ability to pull them safely out of the flooding passage.
Franky and Robin, having already stolen a warship, were watching Sandy, when suddenly an unforgettable scene unfolded before their eyes:
Kokoro's "terrifyingly beautiful" mermaid form appeared in front of Franky.
The poor cyborg froze.
A moment later, the awakened Zoro rubbed his head and asked, "How did this guy Sandy end up fighting a Vice Admiral? That Vice Admiral looks strong…"
Seeing Zoro's eager eyes, Usopp instantly blocked him.
"Zoro! You stay here and protect us! Luffy and Sandy are already fighting. If you go out too—"
Chopper shouted, "Yeah! You're not going to challenge those Vice Admirals one-on-one, you bastard!"
"Seriously…" Nami rolled her eyes. "Robin is already rescued. As soon as Luffy and Sandy get back, we're running!"
Zoro nodded, "But until then, we have to block those Marines."
Hearing the Navy broadcast, Usopp turned pale.
"The lowest rank of the Marines coming after us is Colonel?! That's the same rank as that Smoke Man in Loguetown! They're way too strong!"
Franky flexed his arm and smirked.
"Just what I wanted…"
Elsewhere, Sandy had just slashed Vice Admiral Onigumo (Ghost Spider) off the bridge—but it barely injured him.
"Moonwalk!"
"Shave!"
CLANG—!
Ghost Spider stepped in the air several times, moved at high speed, and slashed downward with both swords held vertically.
A shockwave burst from the clash, blades grinding and sparks spraying everywhere, shocking the nearby Marines watching.
"I didn't expect Sleep God Sandy to be this strong—he blocked the Vice Admiral's strike!"
"Vice Admirals are just below Admirals! I didn't think a Pirate could match that level!"
"This isn't the time to admire him—move the ship back before we get dragged into their fight!"
On a different warship, a Marine reported:
"Vice Admiral Momonga! Sleep God Sandy and Vice Admiral Onigumo are fighting on the bridge. Should we assist?"
Momonga shook his head.
"No. We are here for the Buster Call. Everyone should continue their assigned duties."
"Yes, Vice Admiral Momonga!"
The other Vice Admirals issued the same order. The mission comes first—and how could a Vice Admiral of Navy Headquarters fail against a Pirate?
High above the collapsing bridge—
Ghost Spider glared murderously at Sandy.
"Pirate!!"
Sandy held High Wind in both hands, blocking both blades.
"Old dog, is this all you've got?"
Ghost Spider's eyes burned with fury.
"A villain like you—I'll kill you here."
The sparks flying from the blades didn't interrupt the confrontation.
Sandy pushed forward.
"Besides farting, what else can you do?"
Ghost Spider kicked off the air again.
"Moonwalk!"
He landed on the suspension bridge, steadied himself, and launched an attack.
"Two-Sword Style—Spider Web!"
Dozens of overlapping slashes burst forward, weaving into a deadly web.
Sandy narrowed his eyes. It was too fast, too wide—there was no time to study the technique.
He planted his sword, drew power, and swung upward.
A crescent slash ripped through Ghost Spider's web and flew toward his face.
Ghost Spider raised both blades, guided the attack upward, and the slash exploded in midair.
They clashed again. In this third exchange, Sandy was at a disadvantage—his inexperience showed. He had missed one incoming slash and taken a cut to his left arm.
But it didn't weaken his killing intent.
Ghost Spider, meanwhile, wondered how this Pirate could remain in the air. What Devil Fruit ability was he hiding?
"Whoosh—"
After a tense stare-down, Sandy moved first. He appeared at Ghost Spider's side and slashed down mercilessly.
"Block!"
Sandy's relentless offensive forced Ghost Spider back step by step.
The Marines were stunned.
"That Vice Admiral is being pushed back?!"
"How?!"
They couldn't know that Sandy and Ghost Spider were clashing not only in strength, but in speed, technique, and Observation Haki.
One mistake would mean defeat.
"PIRATE!!"
Ghost Spider roared. Fury erupted. He swung both swords with explosive force, knocking Sandy's blade aside and reversing the tide.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
Ghost Spider launched a fierce, thunderous assault.
Sandy blocked seamlessly, guided by Observation Haki, meeting each deadly strike with precision.
He knew full well Ghost Spider's combat experience far surpassed his own—and every one of the Vice Admiral's moves aimed to kill.
They separated again.
Sandy pointed his sword at him.
"Ugly thing, bring it on."
Ghost Spider stared back with a chilling expression.
"Let's see how long you last."
"Shave!"
CLANG!!
Sandy blocked Ghost Spider's killing blow—but just as he prepared to counterattack, he felt something restraining him.
Ghost Spider sneered.
"You finally noticed? I've seen many rookies like you. You think you're invincible because you know a bit of swordsmanship and martial arts?"
"I am a Devil Fruit user—Zoan type, Spider Model."
His voice grew colder.
"I've mastered the Six Styles. And Life Return. And I've fused them with my Devil Fruit."
Behind Ghost Spider, multiple spider-like arms burst out—two grabbed Sandy's wrists, two grabbed his ankles.
And then—
Another hand extended behind Ghost Spider.
A hand holding a pistol.
A hand aimed straight at Sandy's forehead.
Sandy: "…"
