Cherreads

Chapter 9 - CH<9>

Present Mic had begun the first race everyone was expecting a mad dash from the students but it did not come. In fact none of the students moved four of them even fell to their knees struggling to get up except for Kagami.

"What the!" The first boy yelled trying to get up. "I can't get up my body feels so heavy!" The first girl screamed.

The second boy looked to see Kagami standing there nothing affecting him, "It's him! He's doing this!"

The second girl grit her teeth in rage, "Hey, that's not fair!"

Kagami ignored their shouts and began running to the first obstacle leaving the other four teens struggling to get up. "All is fair in love and war sweetheart!"

On the stands where the adults are seated along with Nezu and some other teachers, some of the adults wondered if what they were witnessing is even allowed.

"Isn't it harsh for him to stop them before they even begin?"

"That has to be breaking some rule right?"

Tsuyoshi got tired of their complaining and cleared his throat loud enough for all of them to hear.

"If you have a problem with my grandson's performance you can come to me." He had a stern look on his face that silenced all of of them and deterred any further complaints. Yuri sighed in exasperation seeing his childish display.

Nezu seeing tension rising decided to speak up, "The students may use any tactic they deem suitable to slow or stop their competition as long as it does not cause physical harm or require outside help."

He turned to watching the the four students still struggling to get up as Kagami neared the first obstacle, "What Young Hoshino did is completely acceptable as it does not break any of the rules."

Tsuyoshi huffed looking at the four students who have now started to move a bit, "And it's their own fault for letting Kagami get close to them in the first place!"

Kagami was nearing the first obstacle a sign in front notified him of this the words 'First Obstacle: Mudslide Mayhem' written on it.

In front of him was a large pool or rather lake of mud between two concrete platforms. Kagami stopped immediately as he saw it.

'Seriously? It just had to be mud!'

He sent his aura into to the ground sensing the depth of the mud.

'It's about five feet deep. I don't see any way of crossing this normally.' He put more aura into the ground searching around the mud for anything else.

He finally sensed multiple objects hidden in the mud, 'I see normally students with physical quirks would have to walk through the mud to get across, giving those with quirks that can be used for easy transportation a clear advantage. But these make sure that everyone can get across, even if it does sound painful.' He looked back see that the other four students were about to catch up with him.

'Damn, my black aura wore off too quickly.' He stood up focusing on his aura,,channelling it from his bare feet into the ground. Green aura flowed into the ground forming a straight path in the mud.

The other students had caught up to him and now saw the first obstacle.

"Do they seriously expect us to go through all this mud?"

"There aren't any platforms or anything in between the cement blocks how are we supposed to get across?"

One of them stared at Kagami who was in deep focus building his path to the other side. "What's he doing?

The others shrugged and one of them gave up on looking and simply jumped into the mud, as he did a he sank to the bottom pushing down on something with his body weight.

He heard a clicking sound, before he could do anything else he was launched into the air by a spring like contraption. He flew high before gravity took control again and slammed him back down a bit further into the mud Lake.

Kagami opened his eyes, "Oh, I forgot of tell you watch out." He gave a quick grin before stepping on the mud. Instead of sinking down he stood firmly on top of the mud.

Tapping with his feet a few times he made sure it was study before he began sprinting on the mud as if it were solid ground.

Two of the students seeing this took a step forward expecting the same result before they the sank down and were launched by springs as well.

The last seeing this stepped directly where Kagami had stepped, she did not sink. After making sure she it was safe to proceed she ran as well.

As Kagami and the other girl ran on the platform the other three students were flung and tossed around the mud with each flight bringing them closer to the end.

Kagami reached the end of he mud lake and seeing the girl use his path to get an advantage he stepped on the path releasing the aura and making it weaker before it completely collapsed and she sank down to the bottom before joining the other three in being flung around the mud.

The other students who were not competing looked at the scene an questioned wat his quirk could be since he was able to weigh down the others and now seemingly create an invisible bridge.

"Maybe he can create invisible constructs." One of them suggested.

"That doesn't explain how he was able to weigh them down at the beginning though." Another replied,

They all debated for a while before they were interrupted by a pink haired individual, it was Shounosuke Akira. The same guy who seemed to harbour animosity towards Kagami.

"I know what his quirk is. We were classmates for a few years after all." Everyone turned to him awaiting for the answer to their question.

"His quirk is called Aura's Reflection. It gives him a variety of powers related to aura and special effects based on the colour of the aura." They all looked impressed yet confused.

"What's aura?" One student questioned.

"I didn't see any of this aura you're talking about." Another shouted while squinting his eyes at Kagami.

Akira sighed rolling his eyes, "That's because you can't see nor sense it if you don't have a quirk that deals with it."

"What an awesome quirk! Worthy of being my rival!" Alberto grinned as he slammed his fist into his palm.

'I heard from my grandfather that he is quite the combatant when he is serious I guess he is one of the greatest competition in this exam I have to try my best to out do him.' Yaoyorozu Momo clenched her fists in determination.

Todoroki Shoto looked at Kagami, 'So that's the kid my old man was talking about. The grandson of his sensei. I'll beat him and everyone else here.'

Kagami ran to the second obstacle 'Second Obstacle: Laser Jungle.'

Kagami looked around seeing nothing at first but as he took a step forward a beam of energy fired at him. He was able to dodge it in time and saw small mark left by it on the ground.

'Judging by the burn mark on the ground, the lasers can cause burns on skin but can't penetrate through flesh.' He waved his arm around the area and a laser fired again.

'They also activate through motion sensors. Should be simple enough to get through.' Kagami channeled orange aura into his body and green aura into his clothes.

He stepped forward and a laser fired at him however this time he did not make any effort to dodge the attack. Everyone looked on expecting him to get hit and he did.

When the beam stopped Kagami stood there completely unharmed there was a small burn mark where his clothes had been hit but other than that they were fine.

He than began running through the whole obstacle activating multiple lasers at once they all hit but seemed to have no effect on him.

The other competitors reached the second obstacle. They were covered in mud head to toe. Seeing the lasers activate while Kagami ran they knew how it worked and some started planning what to do.

One of them created two shields made of rocks and ran while deflecting the lasers that came her direction. The other boy ran forward quickly dodging the lasers with his speed and getting close to Kagami.

The other two simply ran seeing no other option. They were hit multiple times along the way.

The speedy boy was getting close to Kagami. Seeing the finish line close and the other boy catching up Kagami stood in place attracting multiple lasers at one. The other boy rushed past him to the finish line.

Kagami took slow steps to the finish line of the obstacle getting big multiple times. The shield girl caught up to him and reached the finish line as well yet he still didn't make an effort to rush.

The adults were now puzzled as the one who was in the lead was now in third place, his lack of urgency was truly a spectacle for them.

Tsuyoshi smiled at Kagami's antics while Yuri rolled her eyes knowing what was to come after a few minutes. The man besides her asked her if she knew what her grandson was doing.

She removed her hand fan from her face, "He's absorbing energy." The man was perplexed but did not seem to get feedback from her.

"Just watch, he's about to make a spectacle of himself," he returned her gaze to the race.

Kagami had now reached last place before crossing over to the finish line. He looked towards the last sign 'Whirlwind Maelstrom'.

He picked up the pace catching up to the other four contestants who were struggling. They were being pushed back by strong winds coming from multiple giant propellers near the finish line.

The wind could be felt all the way from the beginning and as they got closer it became nearly impossible to move on without holding onto something to anchor them down.

The shield girl used her rock shield to drag herself forward. The speed boy simply ran against the wind which was barely an effective strategy. The other boy secreted a sticky liquid from his palms and used it to crawl to the finish line.

The last girl was anchoring herself with bone like spikes from her arms. Even with all their efforts they would sometimes get pushed back a bit of they lost focus.

Kagami got into a professional looking stance, the ones you'd see runners do before they started running. He channeled white aura into his body increasing the size of his aura. He the channeled red aura to his back absorbing heat, the final touch as the yellow aura he enveloped himself in. The four auras red, orange, yellow, and white looked like a blazing flame that surrounded him. To everyone else he looked exactly the same as always.

Kagami pressed his legs into the ground creating a small crater from the impact of his feet. After a few seconds he launched himself forward releasing his orange aura and the heat he absorbed at once. This action forced his body forward in an explosion off heat and explosive force.

He ran, pushing past the strong winds. His yellow aura propelling him forward as he moved it was as if there was no force pushing him back. As ran past the other contestants they were pushed backwards by thr force emitting from his body.

The finish line was close and the force of the winds increased slowing his movements down, his energy was depleting. Seeing he wasn't going to make it in time he quickly used black aura on his legs increasing his gravity and pushing back on the ground again.

Using the last bits of strength within him he began walking to the step by step to the finish line. With each step the ground cracked under the pressure he took one final leap and landed on the other side of the finish line.

There was a loud sound as his name was displayed on a large screen. His time was also written there. "Six minutes and forty five seconds! That felt like an eternity!" Kagami said panting heavily his eyes red from the strain that technique put on his body.

"Hello there Kagami dear, are you hurt any where?" Talking to him was a short elderly woman he had recognised. How could he not when she visits his house every other month to complain about the U.A the amount of work the U.A students had her doing. Kagami layed down on his back exhausted.

"No Recovery Girl I'm unharmed. Beside you of all people should know I could just heal myself." I took a deep breath calming his heart, "I know but you can't heal yourself when you've reached your limit."

Kagami sat up looking back at the others who had to start over because of Kagami's actions. "I almost feel bad for them."

Kagami shrugged getting up to stand at the booth that was set up for students who finished the race. There were refreshments there and Kagami instantly went for the bowl of sweet snacks on the table.

Before he could get his hands on them he was whacked on the hand by a Recovery Girls cane. "Ow! What was that for?"

Kagami shook his hand in pain.

"I know that sweet tooth of yours acts up when your low on energy," she pointed at him accusingly, "And these are for everyone not just you!"

"I do not have a sweet tooth." Kagami looked away offended at the statement, "It's simply a desire to get the most amount of energy in my body, that's all."

"I wasn't born yesterday," she pushed him away with her cane then took out a small box full of sweets, "Here take these instead, Yuri had them sent her yesterday."

Kagami took the box and opened a packet of sweets before devouring them in a few seconds, "Grandmother sent them?"

"She knew you'd do this so instead of you eating everyone else's share she sent a box for you alone," she walked to the finish line of the race seeing a student close to crossing, "Now stay there and behave."

"I'm always on my best behaviour, thank you." Kagami opened another packet this time of biscuits.

As the time went by only two students of the group of five made it across the finish line it was the bone girl and the guy with the sticky slime hands. The other two didn't make it out in time. When all of them were sitting down to rest and eat they glared at Kagami who simply ignored them and ate away.

The next group went on next. In this group only three people made it to the finish line Shounosuke Akira, Juzo Honenuki, and Setsuna Tokage. The reason the other two didn't make it is because Juzo used his quirk softening to make the ground soft. Setsuna slit herself into pieces and simply went above the whole obstacle course. Akira simple created crystal platforms to get across.

After that the next group came and went. This time all the students made it to the finish line. The most notable students were Momo Yaoyorozu who used a variety of objects to get her to the finish line, Alberto Ishimatsu who just pushed through with pure force and strength, and Eika Omitsume who used he tail claws to move herself around the obstacles.

The last group took their place and only three finished the race. Shoto Todoroki simply used his ice to move through the first two obstacles with ease, Inasa Yoarashi propelled himself across the terrain and Katsue Iwasaki created a multitude of weapons to help her. The real challenge for these three came in the final obstacle course the wind pushed everyone back.

Todoroki's ice would crack and break under the intense winds and Inasa's own winds were pushed back. The two of them were fighting to see who would be first but in the end Inasa won the round.

Inasa was ecstatic at his win but Todoroki seethed glaring coldly at him. When Inasa offered a congratulatory handshake he was met resentment.

Inasa stood still out of shock disheartened. "My, what an unpleasant attitude." A voice rang out behind Inasa, he turned around to find Kagami waving with a curious smile, "Oh, you that aura guy from the first race nice to meet you!"

Inasa was loud and energetic as if he was not completely blown off by Shoto just now, "The pleasures all mine. You and Todoroki over there seemed to be building up some nasty tension so I decided to take it upon myself to defuse it."

"Oh, yeah I guess." Inasa lowered his eyes, "It's just that I thought he'd be different from his dad but it looks like their just the same." Kagami watched Inasa as his fist clenched, "I wouldn't say that."

Inasa's head shot up with speed, "Are we talking about the same guy here?" Inasa's confused expression made Kagami smile, "You might not know this so I'll explain my quirk allows me to see aura which is made from emotions and thoughts."

"Essentially I can see the emotions of other not fully though," Kagami then turned to look at Todoroki who was brooding in a corner alone, "And his aura is full of this hatred and resentment but it's not directed towards you so don't worry but I wonder what could have happened to him for his aura to be this way."

"So he doesn't hate me," Inasa seemed to still be confused at what he was being told, "All I'm saying is that he's hurt. And someone's hurt is bound to lash out, so give the guy a chance he might warm up to you."

With that Kagami walked away seeing his job finished.

With all the races finished the recommendation finally came to an end.

[Info]

White Aura- Amplifies anything. I mean anything from the power of quirks, to the potency of poisons, to even the five senses. Uses large amounts of aura.

Orange Aura- Absorbs damage or energy and stores it as explosive energy.

Yellow- Makes things go into overdrive. Like muscles work harder then they normally should be able to. Put a strain on the body the more it's used.
