The room felt too quiet after Raizel left.
I sat by the small table on the bed, picking at the food he'd brought me. The bread was fresh and soft, the cheese had a sharp flavor that should have been pleasant, and the fruit was sweet and perfectly ripe. But everything tasted like ash in my mouth because my mind wouldn't stop racing with questions and fears I couldn't answer.
Raizel had explained about his family knowing what I was before the marriage, about the artificial Null Omegas they'd been trying to create.
But there was something he hadn't explained, a huge missing piece sitting at the center of everything he'd told me.
Why?
Why had his family been so desperately searching for Null Omegas that they'd spent decades, maybe even a century, trying to create them artificially? What could possibly make someone valuable enough to justify keeping two people unconscious in a pool of dark magic for their entire lives?
