Cadiz was still trembling in my arms, his body shaking with exhaustion and fear and too many emotions for him to process. I held him for several long minutes, just letting him feel safe, letting him know I wasn't going anywhere.
But I could also feel how weak he was. When was the last time he'd eaten? Had he had any water since hiding in my room last night?
"Come on," I said gently, pulling back enough to look at his face. "Let's get you cleaned up first."
He looked at me with those red, swollen eyes and nodded wordlessly. I helped him stand, keeping one arm around his waist because his legs were still unsteady. We walked slowly toward the bathing chamber attached to my room, and I could feel him leaning heavily on me with each step.
