I'd finished eating and tried more times to dissolve the barrier, each attempt ending in the same frustrating failure. The shimmering wall stayed exactly where it was, impenetrable and immovable, my power apparently much better at creating things than destroying them.
I was sitting on the bed staring at it, trying to figure out if there was some trick I was missing, when I heard the door open.
Raizel stepped inside holding a small plate of cookies, probably thinking I might want something sweet after the meal. But the moment he crossed the threshold and saw the barrier dividing his room in half, he stopped dead.
His eyes went wide, taking in the shimmering wall that separated us, the cookies in his hand forgotten as he stared at what I'd created.
And in his expression, I saw something that looked like fear.
