"Look at that! Church rats with romance!" one of the guards sneered.
Another barked, "Better be careful, Conrad. If the Alpha sees this, he'll have you cleaning kennels for the rest of your sorry life!"
Then came the worst of them.
"Hey, Conrad! Don't waste your strength kissing. You'll need it when you're fucking her brains out tonight. Bending her over like the whore she is!"
The men howled with laughter, slapping their thighs, their jeers echoing around us.
I stood frozen. Dumbfounded was an understatement.
Did… did he just kiss me?
The taunts faded into a blur. My heart was pounding against my ribs, my breathing shallow, my wolf practically clawing at me from the inside out.
I knew why he had done it, why he'd kissed me in front of them. It was just a show. A performance to sell the lie of Jason and Avery Conrad. But my body didn't understand that.
