Chapter 124Lily's POV
The forest was endless.
Branches whipped my face as I ran so fast , my bare feet tearing against the roots and rocks. Every breath burned in my throat, raw and desperate. Behind me, a growl ripped through the trees, low, guttural and cruel.
It was her again.
Jane's wolf.
"Run, little mouse. You think you could escape my wrath? I'll follow you wherever you go." Her voice slithered in my head, mocking, echoing like the forest itself was taunting me.
I tried to shift. I begged my wolf to surface, clawing at the bond between us, but nothing happened. My body stayed human, weak and trembling.
"Please," I whispered, stumbling forward. "Shift… shift…"
But nothing happened.
The ground shook as Jane's wolf landed behind me. A blur of fur and teeth slammed into my back, sending me crashing to the dirt. Her claws ripped at my shoulders. I clawed at the ground, screaming….
" Jane… Please…"
And suddenly, the forest was gone.
