Thirty seconds passed.
She stood exactly still, hands at her sides, eyes on him, with the expression of someone who was being very cooperative and wanted full credit for it.
He was still holding both her wrists loosely when the time ran out.
She looked down at his hands.
Then back up at him.
"Time," she said.
He let go.
And instead of stepping back the way a reasonable person would, she stepped in.
Her chest pressed softly against his, warm and full, and she looked up at him with the calm, steady expression of someone who had considered this move and decided on it.
The contact landed before the thought did. All of it. The soft press of her against him, right there, and his body understood what was happening a full second before his brain made any kind of professional effort about it.
He reacted.
It was not subtle.
