Chapter 141 - Chapter 23: A Quiet Trap

Under the cover of night, Hisoka approached the villa.

When he was about fifty meters away, he suddenly stopped.

He didn't move any closer.

Instead, he chose a suitable spot and began observing the villa carefully.

That alone was unexpected.

At the same time, Kurapika and Leorio were also approaching the villa.

They spoke in low voices as they moved.

"What's with this villa?" Leorio whispered. "Why is there a villa on Eyes Island?"

Kurapika shook his head. "I don't know. But I'm sure it wasn't here when we landed."

Leorio froze. "You're saying it appeared in the last few days?"

"As hard as it is to believe, yes."

"That's impossible," Leorio said. "A place like this can't be built in just a few days. That defies common sense."

"And you've never been to Eyes Island before. How do you know there wasn't a villa here?"

"I observed the island before we landed," Kurapika replied.

"I-"

"Shh. Be quiet."

Leorio wanted to say more, but Kurapika cut him off.

They were already close.

Any louder, and they'd alert whoever was inside.

Half a minute later, the two reached the back of the villa.

Kurapika crouched slightly, then leapt upward.

He rose several meters, grabbed the second-floor balcony, and flipped inside with ease.

Standing on the balcony, he gestured to Leorio.

Wait here.

Leorio nodded and made an "OK" sign.

Kurapika carefully pushed open the balcony window and entered the room.

A sleeping figure lay on the bed.

He let out a quiet breath of relief.

Moving on tiptoe, he approached the bedside.

At a glance, he spotted the number plate on the table.

Number one.

This was the target.

Kurapika quietly picked it up, retraced his steps, closed the window, and jumped back down.

"You got it-" Leorio whispered excitedly.

Kurapika immediately covered his mouth.

He raised a finger.

Shh.

Leorio finally reacted and nodded frantically.

The two slipped away without another sound.

What they didn't notice-

Emiya was standing by the window.

He watched their retreating figures.

A pleased smile rested on his face.

The number plate Kurapika took wasn't Emiya's.

It was a number plate Emiya had created himself.

Identical in every detail.

Even if it were submitted to the Hunter Association, no one could tell real from fake.

After Kurapika and Leorio left, Hisoka also withdrew from the shadows.

The direction he chose-

Was the same one they had taken.

Emiya understood.

Had Hisoka's target changed?

Because of Emiya's group, had his interest shifted from the black man to Kurapika or Leorio?

That was possible.

But it had nothing to do with him.

Emiya smiled and returned to bed.

He went back to sleep.

In the blink of an eye, the final day arrived.

Kosaka Shigure still hadn't obtained Gon's number plate.

But Emiya already understood why.

It wasn't that she couldn't find him.

She probably had.

She just didn't take it.

That wasn't strange.

Kosaka Shigure was quiet, but undeniably kind.

Being moved by something Gon did and letting him go was entirely normal.

After all, Gon had far too many shining qualities.

Even Hisoka saw him differently.

Let alone Shigure.

More importantly, Shigure's number plate hadn't been taken.

She had already collected three others.

Six points.

Enough to pass.

Among their group, only one person was still short.

Robin.

But Robin had spent the past few days training Armament Haki.

She hadn't acted at all.

Today was the last day.

She had no choice.

During breakfast, Emiya said, "Your target is Tonpa, right? He's weak, and his plate is probably already gone. Just take any three."

Robin nodded while eating a sandwich. "Alright. I'll find three random ones."

"How's your Armament Haki?"

Robin finished the sandwich quickly.

She raised her right hand.

Her fingertips turned black.

In less than a second, the black spread across her entire hand.

"You succeeded already?"

Even Emiya was surprised.

Awakening Armament Haki wasn't easy.

It was harder than Observation Haki.

But it was obvious she'd only just awakened it.

She could only coat one hand.

Once she could coat her entire body, she'd be qualified to fight a Marine Vice Admiral.

With her Devil Fruit, she could even defeat one.

Against an Admiral, she wouldn't be helpless.

Still, that stage was far off.

There were countless Marines.

Only a handful of Admirals.

Aokiji, Kizaru, Akainu, Sengoku, Garp, Zeffa.

Even adding Fujitora and Ryokugyu, fewer than ten.

And Fujitora was already his companion.

If Robin grew steadily, rivaling a Vice Admiral was realistic.

Defeating an Admiral?

That remained uncertain.

Hayato Furinji raised an eyebrow.

He had also learned Armament Haki cultivation.

Yet he hadn't awakened it.

Seeing Robin succeed, he asked, "Can I try?"

Robin nodded.

She threw a punch straight at his head.

Hayato raised his palm and caught it with the "Unfathomable Depth."

At the moment of contact-

Poof.

A compressed shockwave burst outward.

"So hard."

Hayato felt as if he'd caught a block of steel.

For a moment, it even felt like his palm had shattered.

An illusion.

But his bones had been violently shaken.

His arm throbbed faintly.

Armament Haki was terrifying.

He couldn't take many punches like that.

Robin withdrew her fist, surprised.

Only now did she fully grasp its power.

Even with just one coated fist, her punch was at least three times stronger.

Logically, it should've ended the fight.

Instead, it was caught head-on.

Emiya's companions weren't ordinary people.

After breakfast, Robin began her hunt.

Emiya and the others headed for the dock.

Half an hour later, they arrived at the port unhurriedly.

The ship that had brought them to Eyes Island was still there.

Some examinees had already boarded.

Very few.

Gon's group wasn't among them.

"They haven't boarded yet," Emiya said with a smile. "You go ahead. I'm waiting for someone."

"You don't need to worry about Robin," Niikido Toshiro said.

"It's not her."

Niikido didn't ask further.

He nodded.

Hayato Furinji, Kosaka Shigure, Isshō, and Niikido handed in their plates and boarded.

An hour later, Robin arrived.

"You're waiting for me?" she asked, surprised.

"No. Someone else."

"Oh." She nodded. "Then take your time."

She submitted her plate and boarded the ship.

Time passed.

Just before the fourth test ended, the familiar figures finally appeared.

Kurapika and Leorio stiffened when they saw Emiya.

Their expressions changed instantly.

Gon and Killua looked confused.

Emiya smiled. "Relax. I'm not attacking. I just want to confirm something. Come with me."

He led them onto the ship.

Gon's group submitted their plates.

They passed without issue.

When Kurapika handed in his plate-

Emiya stepped forward.

He placed another plate down.

"This is my number plate."

"And this is my target's."

Kurapika froze.

His eyes widened in disbelief.

The staff member collecting the plates also froze.

Two identical number one plates.

She picked them up.

Compared them again and again.

No difference.

"How... how is this possible?"

She was completely confused.

Kurapika's blood ran cold.

He knew the truth.

The plate he held was fake.

That night-

The other party had let him take it on purpose.

He had been played.

And his heart sank straight to the bottom.
