Chapter 139 - Chapter 21: The Rules of Zevil Island

The woman who rushed Robin froze the moment arms bloomed from her body.

Fear flashed across her face.

She tried to dodge.

Too late.

Robin moved with precision. Arms locked the woman's neck, arms, and legs, bending her backward and subduing her instantly.

Illumi frowned.

He felt no Nen.

If it wasn't Nen, then what was it?

Hisoka's gaze drifted toward Emiya.

Another strange ability.

Robin calmly took the scissors from the woman's hand.

She smiled.

Then she cut the woman's hair, strand by strand, until nothing remained.

A smooth, shining bald head.

According to the rules, she had won.

Robin released her.

The woman touched her head.

Then she collapsed emotionally, crying as she ran away.

With three victories secured, Emiya and his companions cleared this phase and moved on.

Halfway through, Hisoka and Illumi left the group.

In their view, Emiya's pace was too slow.

They chose to descend the tower on their own.

Emiya didn't care.

The rules only required reaching the bottom alive within seventy-two hours.

There were no restrictions on method.

The so-called majority rule was optional.

If you had the strength, you didn't need to follow it.

Hisoka and Illumi knew this.

That was why they left.

As for Emiya, he wasn't in a rush.

He brought Robin and Shigure Kōzaka along and enjoyed the process.

Electrical puzzles.

OX mazes.

Dice games.

Minesweeper.

He took his time with every challenge.

They even stopped to eat a few meals.

After roughly fifty hours, they reached the staircase.

Another success.

By the time they arrived, Hisoka and Illumi were already there.

So were Sakaki Shio, Issho, and Hayato Fūrinji.

"Oh," Sakaki said, visibly relieved. "You three stuck together."

"When did you arrive?" Emiya asked.

"About ten hours ago," Sakaki estimated.

Issho added calmly, "Seventeen hours."

"That's fast," Emiya said, nodding. "Were you together?"

Sakaki shook his head.

"The Elder and I stayed together. Issho came alone. He reached the bottom more than twenty hours ago."

"And your teammates?" Emiya asked.

"One died. Two quit," Sakaki said casually. "Only the Elder and I made it."

Emiya nodded once.

"Oh."

Sakaki rubbed his stomach.

"Forget that. I haven't eaten in two days."

Emiya smiled.

Several large bone-in slabs of meat appeared.

Issho, Sakaki, and Hayato didn't hesitate.

They ate.

The other successful examinees watched with envy but kept their distance.

They probably assumed Emiya wouldn't share anyway.

Soon, seventy-two hours passed.

Just like in the original flow of events, the remaining protagonists reached the bottom with only thirty seconds left.

In the end, thirty people advanced to the fourth phase.

The tower trembled.

A massive door opened along the wall.

Everyone rushed outside.

Waiting for them was a man with a rooster-style haircut and glasses.

"Congratulations on escaping the Trap Tower," he said. "Now only the fourth and final phases remain. The next phase will take place on Zevil Island behind me."

He paused.

"But before that..."

He snapped his fingers.

A bald man pushed forward a lottery box.

"Everyone must draw."

Murmurs spread.

"Draw?" someone frowned.

"What are we drawing for?" another asked.

The man smiled thinly.

"To determine the hunter and the hunted."

He pointed to the box.

"Inside are thirty cards. Each has an exam number. You'll draw in the order you exited the tower."

One by one, they drew.

Emiya drew number 300.

Hanzo.

Originally, it should have been 294, but the added candidates shifted the order.

Robin drew 22.

Tonpa.

Issho drew 86.

A red-haired woman named Sibatto.

Sakaki Shio drew 95.

Sisituuru.

No threat.

Hayato Fūrinji drew 109.

Geretta.

The snake charmer.

Shigure Kōzaka drew 411.

Gon.

That was unexpected.

At the same time, Emiya noticed who had drawn his number.

Kurapika.

Shigure drew Gon.

Kurapika drew him.

A clean loop.

Emiya didn't mind.

Aside from Issho, no one here could beat him.

Not Hisoka.

Not Illumi.

Even together.

Nen combined with the Bomu Bomu no Mi was more than enough.

And with the Space-Space Fruit, he could attack, retreat, or disappear at will.

The rooster-haired man quickly explained the rules.

Your target's number plate was worth three points.

Anyone else's was worth one.

If your own plate wasn't taken, you gained three.

Six points to pass.

Then he led them to the dock.

A large ship arrived.

A beautiful young woman stepped off.

She explained the journey would take two hours.

They boarded.

Two hours later, Zevil Island came into view.

On deck, the woman announced the final rules.

Those who cleared the third phase earliest would disembark first.

After each person, a two-minute delay.

Unfair.

But fairness had never mattered here.

The ship would remain docked for a week.

During that time, anything went.

The first to gather six points could return.

After one week, the exam would end.

Emiya was eighteenth to disembark.

Not last.

Robin was.

He waited.

Once Robin and Shigure stepped off, the three of them entered the forest together.

Robin asked, "What now? Should we look for the others?"

"No need," Emiya replied. "Issho's Observation Haki can cover the entire island. They'll find us."

"For now, let's find a place to stay."

"Somewhere with a good view."

Shigure nodded.

"I agree."

Robin pointed ahead.

"I observed the island earlier. That area looks good."

"Let's see it."

Emiya lifted all three with Nen and flew forward.

Minutes later, they arrived.

Zevil Island resembled a pair of glasses.

The lenses were dense forest.

The bridge was a wide beach.

This was the spot.

They landed on the sand.

Forest to either side.

Ocean ahead.

Waves rolled in steadily.

A gentle sea breeze brushed past.

Emiya nodded.

Wide view.

Open space.

Sunrise in the morning.

Sunset in the evening.

"This will do."

He waved his hand.

A seaside villa appeared on the beach.

"From now on, this is our base."

Robin walked inside without hesitation.

"This room's mine."

Emiya nodded.

"Alright. Shigure, pick one too."

Shigure chose the room across from Robin.

Emiya didn't mind.

It was only temporary.
